HOMESTEADING Off The Grid and On A Mountain We Roll With The Challenges Up Here Vlog 95
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Even though we'll be building a new off grid cabin, we're still moving forward with our plans here at the homestead. The seeds have been started in the greenhouse and we're expanding our gardens to nearly twice the capacity that we grew last year but unexpected challenges occur. Can I fix my Kioti tractor with a wine cork and pieces of an old rubber boot and get our garden prep finished before my project is buried under snow? Watch and see as our journey unfolds.

"I fix my Kioti tractor with a wine cork and pieces of an old rubber boot" Totally impressed with the fix of the tractor. One thing that truly paid off is your storage system to know where your stuff is located. It takes a sharp mind to think of how to fix it, along with some forethought of proper storage, you didn't have to take the entire day to find the odds and ends to do the repair. Salute to you Boss and Mama.

Thank you Margaret. Thankfully I've inherited my dads ingenuity :-))
My late father would always refer to it as "a window of opportunity". The soil is dry but precip is coming, we have a window of opportunity to get the garden ready today. Big brush piles to burn, snow on the ground, low winds, we have a window of opportunity to burn today. Mom gone to lunch and a matinee with some friends, we have a window of opportunity to drink some beer today. He was always plotting and planning for the most efficient and opportunistic use of his time. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS! His mindset, although a wee bit compulsive and consuming for me, taught me a ton about homesteading successfully. And about always being aware of what is going on around you.

Hello again. I've said it before (if not just to myself :) ) that I'm sooo impressed with your ingenuity. I'm from the era that you use it up, repair it with what you've got on hand, make do with something else you've got or do without. You're a man after my own heart. God bless you.

FWIW when removing lots of bolts...use a breaker bar to loosen them and then use a socket on a cordless drill to take them off. Bang bang bang and a dozen are done! Happy gardening!
That's some good ole backwoods logic! Nice temporary repair! You always hear "they don't make them like they used to" it's true. They put a plastic bushing in there, when something like brass would last much much longer, possibly even a lifetime. If you plan on keeping it long term, you might find a local machine shop who could duplicate those bushing in brass. Take care! - Stephen
Awesome ingenuity, JC! Those squirrels were really spilling the dirt on you... better be careful what you say around them! LOL!

PS talking of rain and adapting things, part of my rainwater harvesting system uses cloth filters (what used to be called "mutton cloth") and I couldn't get zip ties to keep it on when the water went through it. So I cut a washing up rubber glove into "elastic bands" and used a couple of those and they work perfectly. :) Great stuff, rubber.
Hey, you're a mechanic and don't know it. You did good JC.

My Dad was born during the Depression... had just an 8th grade education... but I swear he was a genius. I don't think there wasn't anything he couldn't do or figure out a way of doing. One of his favorite sayings was "Necessity is the Mother of Invention". It's reassuring to see that philosophy still in practice.😉

That snow is free fertilizer, nitrogen in the air is trapped in falling snow and brought directly to your garden. The next thing you can do is add lime to balance out the pH, of that acidic woods dirt, and you'll have some fine soil for your garden.
@alanj7306
3 жыл бұрын
You can also use the wood ash, which has a more basic PH.
