OFF GRID SUSTAINABLE LIVING. Cabin Tour And Meat Harvesting. Wilderness Living Vlog 162

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode we're busy as ever with more trips to our backwoods cabin and putting a lot more fun in our lives. It's hunting season and since we subsist on venison, it's time to fill the freezer. Also, I'm taking a moment to answer some questions regarding how I process my venison and giving a tour of the interior of our off grid cabin

Howdy Boss! I am 70 years old and all of my hunting/camping/survival gear is less than $1,000.00 dollars and most of it over 30 years old. I was raised in a home where there was not a lot of money so we made things, bought them used and fixed things to as good as new or better. Recently an individual was looking at my gear and said, "this stuff is ancient". I laughed and told him, "when you buy good stuff (not expensive name brand) and take care of it, you only have to buy it once! He then proceeded, in conversation, began expressing his worries about meat prices and asked, "what are we going to do"? I chuckled and told him we will have to do what I did growing up. We hunted for almost all of our meat (fish, snapping turtles, squirrels, turkey, dove, ground hogs, possums, deer etc.) Ground hogs and possums?! he yelled. I said yeah, it's good eating. Well, he said, I think I would rather starve and I said, you probably will. Boss, we live in a narcissistic soy boy society where people are more concerned with how they look and how they will be seen by their digital so-called friends and who will notice their name brand crap. GOD help them Boss, they sure won't be able to!

Watching your cabin videos back in 2016 inspired me to quit the best paying job I ever had, sell my house and move from CT to NH. Your words hit me like a cement truck and helped me realize my dreams of living simply. I've been loving the new land I have, my home, my abilities to cut my own trees, harvest my own venison, grow my own veggies. The many changes that have come to my life since 2016 Boss, I owe to you. Would love to shake your hand one day. Thank you sir.

Thanks for sharing Boss! I felt the same way shooting trap at my local Rod & Gun Club. I was shooting a Remington 870 or 1100, while my "competitors" were shooting $15,000-$20,000 Krieghoffs and Perazzi shotguns with limited success. As an old timer told me years ago, "It's not the price of the gun, it's practice, practice, practice." Take Care Boss and Laurie

She added Lipton onion soup mix and hot sauce for taste Not spicy hot. Cut up raw onions, Add sometimes fresh Garden Cherry tomatoes or can of soup on top. Meat was good and added a bit of richness of fat. Like 1/4 lb of pork. Bake or put in dutch oven pan brown on stove. Miss parents cooking. Mom could boil water and be Great. Love. Meat you got yourself is always better. Hey, I noticed when you were skinning that deer there were some nicks in the meat. To prevent that, my uncle taught me to use a dull knife to cut the hide off the meat when skinning. He had a bundle of different knives for butchering. Thanks for all the great videos trough the years!

Another very enjoyable video JC. Nice buck also. I don’t hang my deer, cut it up and pack it in ice in 150 Igloo. Drain the water everyday and fill it back with ice, repeat process for 5 days. Understand and agree with you on buying over priced items( remember I said Igloo). Take care and see y’all on next one. Happy Thanksgivings and God bless to you and Lori along with the Boss family.

Love all the woodworking in the cabin JC. As far as hanging and aging deer, I don’t have time for that, harvest and process. Funny thing. Couple days ago I watched Dick Proenneke for the 60th time. Keep being you JC. God Bless from Northern Minnesota.

Really enjoyed this vlog BUT favorite was the end with the red tailed hawk, ravens and turkey vulture spreading out those wings but still having to leave. Information on ground venison with pork was very informative. Thanks JC - this was a wicked good video!

Again you’re humor is greatly appreciated! I love the cabin. I remembered it, down to the rocking chair and shed cabinet handles! I haven’t had the opportunity to have deer meat since I was in my twenties. I really miss having it. Congratulations on the deer meat.

Maan that cabin brings back a lot of fond memories JC. I think you used those two little pans to make corn bread in your Dutch oven a few years back. I can remember the two quiches you made too. The corduroy driveway and tons of sand. They said it wouldn't work. Thank you for the blast from the past. I'm glad to see the old cabin JC.

We took 2 steers off to the butcher this week and met a woman there who had brought in a deer and she was all excited. However she thought we should take the steers home and keep them as pets! Takes all kinds I guess.

Really cool footage of the birds on that carcass! Thanks for sharing. I’m a retired conservation officer if 30 years and would never have suspected those birds would have tolerated each other like that. I always say wildlife will humble you every time if you proclaim your expertise! 😂 God bless!

I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself. The hawk was on it first and let all those others share in it. It goes against the grain of everything I ever thought I knew about hawks.

Hello, nice buck! I had a funny experience a week ago. Cutting firewood on a solid overcast day I was splitting by hand and heard a lower than normal jet flying circles overhead. Too cloudy to see it I went about my day. Next day rain so I went through more of your catalog of videos and saw the tanker aircraft doing circles above you. Hmmm I said. I’ll be more attentive to the sky in the future. Thanks again.

@@thebossoftheswamp hell yeah. That’s what our toilet was used for. I’m 47 but I got injured so that messed up my life. I loved using wood from my woods to beat the house for free. I still love the woods but it’s just not the same. I really love seeing Frankie at the end with the music. Love it
