Homeskoolin’ Goes To Gruhns Volume 3

A BIG SINCERE WELCOME ANY AND ALL VIEWERS:
UNLESS of course you happen to be one of THOSE guys….
oh, you know the ones i mean…the ones that love to complain about not being able to hear every single word of dialogue perfectly clearly in a totally free video….after 50 years of working with power tools with no hearing protection.
I simply cannot deal with any more of the dumb ass “biggest guitar store in North America and they can’t afford a microphone?” comments
Please keep in mind that these are extremely loose casual conversations that are recorded with a simple iPhone….just a few dudes who have spent their entire lives in the old guitar racket sharing a few laughs, and a couple brews (courtesy of dear Wayne Baswell) and the occasional “hot take” on a particularly touchy subject
Starring:
Greg “Old World” Voros
Eric “Ebo” Borash
Corey Terrell
George Gruhn
Geoffrey from Atlanta
and a very special thanks to sweet Tosa from Atlanta for holding her arms up for over an hour straight filming this video. (Try that sometime folks…after 15 minutes it starts becoming a real problem)
Like all Homeskoolin’ products…this video is meant to be taken in good fun.
it is not meant to offend anyone…
please people, if any of the views expressed here-in don’t align with your own….please do not take it personally.
I am pretty sure you guys would rather see some raw unedited real shit rather than some smoothed out corporate PC bullshit….am i right?
Besides there is already enough people out there who hate me for providing 600 free guitar lessons.
Thanks for watching kids…please visit this amazing store if you ever get to Nashville…it is really something special.
George has been the king of the vintage guitar mountain since 1970.
Editor’s note:
I meant to say “tremotone”, not “frequensator” when I was referring to a few of Gibson’s questionable moves during the golden age.

Put this woman on the payroll! The camera work is a blanket solution to pretty much everything someone could complain about with the audio. She's smooth, attentive and has a great eye for space and framing. Five stars.

I got to meet Tom today at Gruhn’s and wanted to say thanks for taking a few minutes to say hi. He was kinda busy and had people around him so I didn’t expect much time or much of a conversation, so it was still cool. But I will say, Corey and Greg are two of the most outstanding people I have ever met. I drove 10 hours to go to Gruhns on a trip to Nashville and Greg spent 45 minutes just shooting the shit with me like we had been friends for 20 years. Corey was much the same. Just outstanding people. I even got to meet the legend himself, George Gruhn! Anyways, you’re probably not going to remember me from the 15 minutes I was up in the room with you today watching a turtle eat lettuce, but thanks for your time.

I walk into a guitar shop in Peterbrough, Ontario, Canada to get strings. Just as I'm checking out I asked the two guys there if they ever watch Tom Bukovac. Both guys reply in unison Uncle Larry with that sound of love and appreciation. We reminisced for about 15 minutes and finished by taking note that there was one Shining Light that came out of this pandemic situation. Thank you to the cast members and crew once again!!! 🎉❤🤣🤣🤣✌🏾🤙🏾🧇

I love the kid-buying-a-guitar stories. I can relate. Although in my case I was 20, it was Summer 1988, at Guitar Center, and the salesman was probably my age or a year older. I had 300 bucks, and I walked out with a Kramer Aerostar ZX30H over a Squier Strat . In retrospect, I wish I'd gotten the Squier Strat, but the Kramer had **Select By EMG pickups**, and a bridge humbucker (ooh! ahh!, LOL).

I watched the entire thing while working. So entertaining. Before the internet, guitar knowledge was part of a secret society. Thanks for sharing the knowledge, brother. Ah, man! Thanks for bringing out my dream guitar. The aged yellow binding is so damn sweet. Frampton Comes Alive was massive when I started playing (we're talking '76) That 3PU BB on the album cover was my ideal guitar. I was po' boy so it wasn't gonna happen but I could dream. It'll happen. I don't name my guitars. I refer to them by model or builder. LOL! @ TGP amp builders. Ugly guitars: Firebird X. Not crazy about the Tyler headstock. Thanks you for the reverse V. Fugly!! Best Looking guitars: Black Beauty w/gold hardware, Mary Kaye strat, The Gibson Firebird & Explorer. My Trussart tele is bad ass. James makes cool looking guitars.

Its a good day when we get to see and hear George for a bit. I think we're all here because we love guitars, and our Uncle Larry, so George is like out Pope! I'm 71, and I can relate well to some of the things he says. I'd love to spend some time with him some day. 8) Just a couple notes; Things I dislike? The word "perform". We never said that, it was always "we are going to play tonight". Not "We are going to perform tonight". Monkeys 'perform', players 'play'. LOL Ugly guitar; Mosrite, with all those goofy angles and pups mounted cockeyed. Sexiest guitar; Has to be a Strat, just the curves/carves/shapes! Thanks so much to everyone around the table!! That was very special, we really appreciate it!! 8) Peace --gary

I have no idea who or what that is. I just heard it once and it got stuck in my brain. Sorry... What was the question again? LOL Hey Tom, I met the beautiful Emm Gryner last weekend. You played all the guitars on her awesome new album, "Business & Pleasure". She popped into the gig I was playing last Saturday. Nice girl and great album! Loved your work on it. Tom that was a really enjoyable video. I don't like the L6S either. I remember Carlos Santana endorsed it in an ad in Guitar Player back in the '70's. I played a few. I think the first version had a maple neck. It was the loudest guitar too with a not particularly pleasing sounding or feel. Not aesthetically pleasing to look at either. Every box was left unchecked with that model. Tom you ask great questions too. Great hang out. It felt like I was at the table with you guys.

I agree with the Unc that sideways vibrato arms and varitones are pretty much Junk. My first Good Guitar was a 63 355 my Dad got me in 1966 when I was 12. I let Gruhns sell my Tom Holmes Lenny Breau model ser. no. 02. They sold it quickly and for a fair price. In the 70’s I worked for a sheet music distributor in NY. We had all of the Sam Ash stores and every other music and record store in the Northeast. I would visit stores and stock them from a step van. Everything from sheet music to method books and popular folios. I came across a lot of interesting people. All of the record stores are gone. I wonder how many of the small indie music stores still remain. A different time indeed 😎!!

In 1983 I bought the same “The Strat” in lake placid blue. It was the week I got married and my wife had no idea what she was she was signing up for. Forty years later while I’m watching this KZread we’re in a uhaul van hauling my gear from Arizona to Texas. She’s never complained once about my gear habit! Years later when I sold the “The Strat” my youngest daughter told me it was like selling her brother since the guitar was older than she was. 😊

"A chop or an upgrade?" Wire the three like Frampton, then the tonal response is endless, the P90 and a staple is a completely different animal, different growl, then again, when I can play like these guys,,,,,great guitar inside baseball, these fellas are home run hitters. Thanks,

Ok I was very glad to hear George bring up the Gibson RD. I agree, “RD stands for ridiculous” 😂Looks like a 4 year old’s drawing of a Les Paul and Moderne looks like a 4 year old’s drawing of a Flying V

Really enjoyed the insights and discussion, especially the "pet peeves" part. I have to confess: "My name is Chuck and I have named some guitars." But in all fairness, that was a thing for a long time and I haven't named all of them and the only alternative when I first started was Pete Townsend and those butt-ugly numbers "1" and "2" that he would stick onto his Pauls. Did he think he was going to forget which was which? Finally, I think George and you (Tom) are talking about 2 different "ugliest" guitars. I don't recall the L6-S having any binding anywhere. I think he might have meant the L5-S? The only famous player I remember playing that one was Pat Martino for a while. Love the channel. Peace.

Wise man that Gruhn guy! I knew most of those Sam Ash Qns Blvd/48st guys back then, probably the Cory offender too. Are we talking about Gary Kessel of Kessel music Rego park? I got to get back to figuring out Back in Black now lol
