After I put mix in the caps. I use a hyper dermic needle (internet) full of acetone, put few drops in each cap. Then spray all the caps with pixie dust (hair spray) let dry over night. I make enough mix to make about 50 caps at one time. I never have misfires and have used hundreds of them now.

I made these as well ... my first test only 1 out 6 fired the chambers of loaded powder and ball. Then I did 6 more and all 6 fired in a row. The 6 that fired in a row were my caps I made as a second batch with a bit more powder and I made sure to really seat them on the nipple well using my hammer face before firing. I'm good with it, i know this works and it will fill the void in the cap shortage. I have about 700 #11 CCI caps left and after that it's these so I am making a bunch ahead of time.

Looking at the bags in My kit, the number on the bags is what you need. L- 1 large scoop...S- 1 small scoop...L2- 2 large scoops..I had a total (you know what) of a time getting the powder into the caps. Don't mean to be nasty, but it felt good to see I was not the only one that had problems getting the caps loaded.

I bought this kit and for sure there is a learning curve. The problem I have is keeping the powder in the cap. Supposedly there is a hardening agent after it's mixed but I don't think so. After you've made up a bunch of these, they tend to be sensitive to movement. Meaning if you aren't very careful how you store them, the charge will crumble and fall out of the cap into whatever receptacle you're storing them in. A big problem to be sure. My solution, and I'll know today if it works, is an item called new skin liquid bandage. I put a drop of this into the cap on top of the charge. It dries quick and it leaves like a membrane over the powder. I also use a straw cut diagonally to put the charge into each cap and I use an extra large match whittled down to fit the circumference of the cap to press the charge into the bottom of the cap. I press quite firmly on the charge to compact it. I tried just filling the cap up with powder and those caps absolutely explode on a standard nipple. I do not recommend the slixshot nipples for these homemade caps. Slixshot nipples are fantastic for store bought caps, but for these caps, not so much. Anyway, these are really fun to make and sometimes the charge is so strong, or hot, it's like shooting a full charge blank! When filling the cap full of powder, you can expect to get around 20 caps out of one batch, but I was able to get 40 caps filled using the straw and a measured amount into each cap. Acetone and a drop of new skin and these caps should store and travel well. I'll know for sure today.

Yes I found there's a little bit of trial-and-error in producing these. I've seen where some people are using pump Hairspray. After packing the compound in the cap. I'm having pretty good luck with cap gun caps the roll type. Using two caps with a few granules of black powder between them. Let me know how that new skin works out for you. Thank you for watching, have a great day and stay prepared.

@@LivingFrugalAndPrepping I'm happy to report the new skin liquid bandage worked! I dropped the cap, I tapped on the cap and the powder stayed put. I then put the cap on my 1863 Remington pocket .31 caliber revolver with the slixshot nipples on it and I fired it. The first hammer strike it didn't ignite. Probably because I didn't have the cap fully seated on the nipple but the second hammer strike it ignited with a decent pop! So. The straw measuring and the new skin and I believe I have caps that are now transportable! I've got around 70 more caps to apply the new skin to but after I do this, I'll have a pretty good cache of homemade caps to use. The prime all kit says that the kit will make 2000 caps. That's a lot of shooting!

I mentioned in a previous video that I had problems with powder actually staying in the caps after the 24 hours, well I found out why, I also found that the more I make, the easier it gets. I made 200 more only this time I sanded the label off the can then cleaned it real well with Acetone, took about 5 minutes, this side was also used for inside of the cap, they all turned out well, no issues. The most tedious part of the process is getting the powder in them but to make that a bit easier, I used a primer tray from CCI 500 SP Primers and they fit well, this kept them all close together rather than having them scattered on the bench and this also made it easier to get powder in them as well. After 24 hours I dumped them out on bench and not one lost powder, it solidified real well. It would be nice if the little measuring devise was a bit longer because it is tough to get a good hold on it when dumping the powder. At any rate, took me about 15 minutes to fill 100 caps, oh, I also made up the mix using 8 scoops of L2 and 4 each of the other 3, I did this so I did not have to stop and mix up more to finish the job. I used a small wooden mortar & pestle to mix and crush powder well. Anyway, this process worked real well for me and I hope it might help others as well, as it seems now, doesn't look good for actually buying them.

To help fill the caps. Go on Amazon and look for snuff spoons. They are about the perfect size to fill the caps. Also I've seen some videos where people use hairspray. To hold the powder into the cap. The pump type of hairspray not aerosol. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B093FGSNVX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Have a good day and stay prepared. PS. @@LivingFrugalAndPrepping Thanks for the tips, I will definitely check out the the snuff spoons, as for the hair spray, I don't think it will be necessary now as I found a good cleaning of the aluminum made the difference. I cleaned them with Acetone first time making them but I think there is some type of a coating on aluminum cans which is why I decided to sand the label off for this batch, this worked extremely well. Also the sanding leaves a rough texture which I think also aids in holding the dried compound in the caps, I used 320 grit and only took about 5 minutes, then I wiped it down with Acetone till paper towel had no residue. Now I plan to come up with a larger measuring devise that will make enough for 100 caps. Again... Appreciate the tips! Have a Great Day!

Prime all is essentially the same as old 30-40 Krag primer (H-48). It contains the following in their respective ratios : 1. Potassium Chlorate 49.6 or potassium perchlorate, the white powder 2. Antimony sulfide 25.1 - the black powder(not charcoal) - 3.sulfur 8.7 4. glass powder 16.6 It is highly corrosive Additional tips I use the match head to pack down the primer mix with acetone. Since match head is potassium chlorate, any residue from the match head should only improve the oxidation reaction of the primer. The match head rounded and improves the packing process. The wooden stick will absorb the primer compound and reduce is effectiveness. The completed percussion cap can be dried in about 15 minutes in a ceramic cup with a hair dryer blowing into the cup at moderate heat and placed about a foot away from the cup. That evaporates the acetone and dried the compound effectively. Use at your own risk!

@@357bullfrog9 Sorry to hear that. Yeah with fee, even though it was only 19.00 a pound(Pyrodex P) plus shipping charge and it becomes expensive. But I have found, black powder guns and their accessories are not cheap(now?). However, it's nice to have it on hand during this ammo drought(I reload my .410 shells with Pyrodex rifle powder). I just managed to get a Uberti reproduction 1862 Pocket Police(.36, 5.5" barrel) and many of these were sold out for months and the prices rising as demand has outpaced supply. Good luck finding some near you. If you have a Cabelas, you might score there......

Like I said if we could get like five people together and order a 25 pound case it would cost like 21 dollars a pound. Then just meet and split it up. Wed all be in good shape for at least a while.

Did you order direct from this company's website? I ordered the cap maker and the primer ingredients 3 weeks ago and haven't even received a tracking number yet. I emailed the company a week ago and haven't heard anything. I'm just wondering if shipping took forever. I don't mind waiting, I just want to know what's going on.

Was a long wait with no communications but mine finally arrived. I didn't like how it overlapped the edge of the aluminum so I hacked it a bit. Its a little easier removing the scrap. I also fold aluminum double and hopefully the double thick pop can will work.

Please don't play music while you're talking... unless, from kindergarten through all your schooling, your instructors played music while they were talking... it's distracting. Also, drill a hole in the board to hold your caps while inserting the PrimeAll.
