HomeMade Kinetic Log splitter (better than hydraulic?)
amzn.to/49qpyNS - Makita Drill
For many people, a kinetic splitter may be a better solution than a hydraulic splitter.
The biggest advantage of such a splitter is its speed. The entire cycle takes less than a second, thanks to the energy accumulated in the very heavy flywheel.
My splitter may be a bit too fast, but I had no way to choose other gears.

Man I’m a retired welder fabricator of over forty years, and I’m putting you up there with me brother. lol. Really nice work. That thing doesn’t play , I would like to see it split some hard oak or maple, just to see what it does. But I have to say, you did a fine job building it. ✌️👍. Oh one more thing, I would love to see it with the shrouds off to see just a bit more. I am impressed for sure. I’ve been doing fab work most of my life. It’s good to see someone else that does the same thing. The few jobs I’ve had working for someone else, when you’re good at this type of thing they always leave you to do your thing. It’s like being your own boss even though you work for someone. I know I drove a lot of people crazy because I don’t ever get yelled at and people do get jealous of the respect I always got. I always enjoyed working because it is something different all the time. Good luck to you brother. ✌️
Brilliant. Great job.
Hi Darek, very nice job as usual, and very helpfull ! Do you provide plans for this one ? Thanks a lot for this content !
You designed a very clever device to split firewood. It is the all-around best design I've seen. I have looked at a lot of them in the last 65 years. I think it will stand up on its back wheels and rest on the motor adjusting bolt to store in less space. To do that, it needs something sturdier than a piece of all-thread. The execution is first-rate as well.

Fantastic work, dude! Really well done!!! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 And happy holidays!
Love it! I want one... so fast and quiet.
Gratulálok nagyon szuper dolgot csináltál Ügyes vagy
Good job. Excellent speed. Thought some of the structure was a trifle light but for a single household will probably give a good long service. Love to try it out on some of the knarly oldman pine I deal too, that sometimes stonkers my 35ton hydraulic splitter. But yours is much faster and quieter. Well don that man!
The quick snap action is something you just cant get from hydraulics unless you spent real big, and being mechanical as long as its oiled and greased it last long enough to be mighty useful 😊

Unless ur capable of looking to understand what's exactly wrong n how very simply um needed in every basement it's a pressure expansion tank for water coming into a house. Helps flushing, from below sewer water in lines feeding basement toilets and terd choppers lmfao up. Flush toilet n poop choppers wtfk rt?

great idea...if the main shaft was always connected going forward you could have achieved the clutch by a pully to the belt from motor... on the main shaft it would have needed to be spring loaded and your mechanism would have also have needed to be fitted...only difference would be there would not be a clunk of gears when engaging.
Excelente trabajo. 👍👌

The reason why the thing works as good as it does is because of that speed. I agree it’s not for me as I’m getting older. I’ll stick to my hydraulic splitter, but he did a hell of a good job building that thing.
I love the speed, but what happens when you have difficult wood to split that hydraulic muscles through? Does this have the impact strength or the belt slips or?
Good job mister beautifully done beautiful video
Immerhin, funktioniert recht gut !
Świetna robota ❤
Fajny projekt. Oby więcej takich materiałów. Gratki.
Very nice work
It's hard to tell which is better: you're video production skills or your engineering/fabrication skills.
Hi nice design and build the only thing is the frame is a bit wobbly for bigger logs apart from that brilliant .
Great welding!
I like this video thank you for sharing it to view and i wish your channel more success
Fajna maszynka, na jaki koszt by pan wycenił?
Máy móc hiện đại quá. Thích quá
Moc pěkné, akorát by to mohlo být trochu pomalejší, aby člověk stačit vždy včas dát ruce stranou. Jinak je to super stroj.
Look just like a boaght one! Very nice indeed. I maybe would have had a removable blade so you can sharpen it or put different shapes ones in, like taller or maybe a cross ➕ shape. Just a thought. Other than that, excellent machine
Bravissimo!
Darek, Very cool engineering , do you have to let the handle go after you split a log, what happens if you don't let it go in time? great project, just look out when you pull the trigger.👍👍 👍👍
This thing is nice! I have a slow 11.5 second cycle splitter. I need one of these. You build them to sell?
Nice build but I've never been in a hurry and the one I got will split or cut anything. It's not fast but it's not supposed to be, and it's hydraulic. And backwards form yours. I just have to deal with the splits instead of the blocks. And I split oak and maple, usually from 18 to 24 inches through and at least 18 inches long. The crotches are the worst but nothing stopped it yet. You just stand off to the side when it starts. Been known to sling fair sized chunks Thanks!

And what's really great is that with those stickers, it's safe enough to have all the neighbourhood tykes over to do all your log splitting for you!

Its on springs return. When the rack end is reached the pinion cog disingages on a cam. Mr homemade should have expplained this to you. Perhaps he is too lazy arsed.
Is there a way to compare it to the tonnage of a hydraulic cylinder to get some kind of idea of what it can do? I really like the seriousness of that splitter but it can be deceiving by the wood you were splitting. One thing for certain is there is no forgiveness if your fingers are in the wrong place. I’m dealing with so much variety with the wood that I split and burn,so I’m more comfortable using my hydraulics. But I can definitely see a purpose in a more perfect world to have and use the one you built. I’m getting old and slightly slower nowadays but I think I might have preferred yours some years back. Thanks for sharing your work ethics, knowledge and build. Peace
What cutting power is this, please? (tons)
Sweet build.. The only flaw I see is the lip on the end of the table, If a Piece of wood is in the way of another coming off the Splitter I can see the 2 popping up in the Air and hitting the operator..

Hi!! Do you have the project?
Are there plans for sale?
Bealtifull!
Can u switch the rest and blade to the opposite sides? So that the whole log doesn’t get pushed, just the blade?

Very nice log splitter. But its sad watching those nice large logs being split. maybe you could build yourself a wood lathe and turn the wood into something nice?
You sell the planes, i need the measurements
MM77 Approved 👍🏻👍🏻
How does it do on a knotted log??

You have to hit it a few times and it works well.
Very nicely done. Like to make one my self. Not sure yet about engaging and disengaging mechanism. But I’ll figure this out. Again very nice. Keep on building😂

The engagement reminds me of a non-synchronized transmission. The engagement\ disengagement on this design seems problematic to me.
Nice easy to split logs I see.

What will happen, when this little spring, seen 16:04, decides to brake during work? Fingers do not grow back 😝
Elie85 france 🇫🇷
I think if he had the splitting wedge on the piston and the stop fixed at end it would be a bit safer , or at least he wouldn't have to go chasing the log
👍
Quanto costa questa spacca legna arrivanto in itlia
Cool but I couldn't buy the raw materials to build one of these for the price I could buy one.
Very fast, BUT, no good for knotts and rough grained trees. A nasty lock up that cant easily be released will happen. Hydraulic is more controlable and importantly, can be reversed. Your clean wood is all this type is good for.
Weak front leg. You have to brake at the back. Great job!
🥰🔥🔥
You never showed how it actually works and the wood you're splitting looks like softwood or balsa, how does it go splitting hardwood.
Brate, svaka tebi čast na izradi kinetičke sekire. Vidi se da si dobar majstor. Bravo.

Nice work, but this is a very dangerous machine to use. The longer the operator works with it, the less the concentration becomes and the greater the risk of accidents.
Some of us use our hydraulic log splitter for other jobs, pressing bushes in, stretching suspension springs, bending steel plates, that thing has 1 use.. not very usefull..
👍🏴

Hardly homemade!!!
Just a regulary equiped home workshop...
👍👍👍👍👍🤜🤛
Who has all that metalworking equipment to begin with? And who has perfect rounds like that? Using this splitter has safety issues. Note how close the operator lets his hands get at times.
