Adam looks like he was locked up too long in the hole! 😆
Johnny Cash wrote this in 1953 while he was in the service. He recorded it on a live album from Folsom prison. While giving free concerts to prisoners. I think he would love Home Free's twist on it.
The guys did a great job of this Johnny Cash cover. Made it into a jazzy blues style. And they all look like some sort of criminals especially Tim & Adam. Remember this was done during quarantine so none of them were physically together. They were very creative during that time. Love the background train noises. Adam's beatboxing is crazy good & so is Tim's low notes.

And Austin’s lonesome train whistle. ❤
You go boys!! HF is the best of the best!! Ty for ur reaction!
Cover upgrades is what Home Free delivers. So good
Yass, The Man in black “ Johnny Cash” wrote this song and it was considered his biggest hit. I am a big fan of Johnny Cash. I was raised on his music along with all those other old Timey country singers. You really need to watch the movie walk the line that is about Johnny Cash’s life is a very good movie. Thank you very much for this reaction. You have a good day.
Johnny Cash is the original singer and he wrote it in 1953. Roy Clark added his twist of humor to his rendition.
Home Free is "THE BOMB!!! The most versatile Vocal Band on the planet!!! Mic Drop!!! 🎤
Yep, HF makes it their own!!
A fun reaction. I'd suggest also reacting to the Johnny Cash version. The line "I shot a man from Reno just to watch him die." I recall reading where he said he was trying to think of the worse crime possible to give for the character in the song to be in jail.
Ring of fire by Home Free. Killer rendition!!
there will be only one Johnny Cash!! Has his own unique sound that will never be duplicated!
Johnny Cash performed this live in Folsom prison to the inmates. They loved it.
If you don't mind getting a little choked up, check out their rendition of 'Rest High on That Mountain'.
This was one of Home Free's 'quarantine' series - done separately in their own homes due to the Covid lockdown. Their senses of humor show in the heights they assigned themselves! Others in the series include: "Flowers on the Wall", "Diamond Dreams", "Down to the Honkytonk" and "Moonshine", as well as a collaboration with Peter Hollens "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".
Hi Greg... Home Free is one of my most favorite groups... When they cover Johnny it's extra special...have you heard Johnny's redition of.. When The Man Comes Around.... He recorded it the year he passed... He was known as the Man in Black..and has a song of that name to explain why... June Carter his wife..was who co-wrote Ring of Fire after meeting Johnny...beyond her love of him..she put the love of Jesus in his heart...many things changed for Johnny after June became his wife... I'm so pleased you've continued to follow these young men...they believe in Faith..Family..and Country...the cover of Brother..you enjoyed it along with us..was from a Christian group Need to Breathe...dressed as warriors through the ages..they enacted what the song was about..being there to help them..someone..in need...the true meaning of brotherhood... Checking out your playlist I noticed something special was missing.. Don't Laugh At Me...ft Mark Wills... I believe August is anti-bullying month..and when they released the recording...do give it a listen... I apologize for the long comment but you're a great reactor and this old (70) women certainly enjoys your content..😁... May you be blessed...🌿🌿🌿
The Man in Black did this song. Johnny Cash! they did it justice! Love it!
Roy Clark did a fun cover too. But this is a Cash song.
To repeat the other comments, original singer was Johnny Cash. Cash performed the song live to a crowd of inmates at Folsom State Prison in 1968 for his live album At Folsom Prison (1968). 😊Notice the height chart, says Rob 6'8" , says Chance 5', Austin 6'5", Tim 6'4", funny
Absolutely love this cover. They killed it. Johnny Cash wrote and performed this but Homefree killed it. No wonder their in Prison😂
There's even a YT video of Roy Clark and Johnny Cash doing this song together, but Home Free really adds value. The harmonies and vocal train sounds really step it up, although I noticed even Johnny gets some train sounds from his guitar. I think he'd appreciate this version.
You can see him singing it live at Fulsom Prison. They loved it
They are some bad dudes in the best possible way. Love their individual specialties and Oh! ADAM, yikes
❤🔥HOMEFREE🔥❤
Love this rendition. I believe Johnny Cash would love this.
Took a lot of courage to do a Johnny Cash song. The original will blow you away!
Great review. And yes, hangin out with Greg is the place to be.
It is their creativity and respect for the original that makes them special.
The one by Johnny Cash isn’t this fast of a tempo. It’s great to listen to. If you listen to the lyrics how it’s someone in prison dreaming of the outside. That’s the tone Johnny Cash’s version is. I believe this was done during quarantine which means none of them were in the same room or the same state. The videos they did during quarantine really showed the talent of themselves and their editor. They would film themselves and send him the footage and he’d splice it together.
It's been a long time since I heard the Johnny Cash original, but I can guarantee it doesn't sound like this. So good. And Adam, really???
Johnny Cash premiered this in a show in a prison for the prisoners. He ended up performing it in several prisons.
Johnny Cash wrote this for the men in Folsom Prison and sang it for them in the prison 🎉 Home Free put their spin on it and I love it!! When Tim sings “ Don’t ever play with guns” watch Adam looks like he has a gun and the sound he make sounds just like him cocking a gun!! Look up the original where Johnny is singing in the prison 😮Great reaction🎉 I love Home Free😊

Adam didn't do the shotgun racking sound, which would have been wicked cool. This time, he borrowed a shotgun (IIRC, from his FIL?) and recorded the actual sound.
Tim's low voice is so good to listen to, just Love it!!
Johnny Cash and Roy Clark both sang it sometimes together and sometimes separately.
I guess HF are a good group of musical fellas, but I'm just one of those people that don't like musicians put their own spin on a classic such as Johnny Cash!! When this reaction came up, I figured I'd watch this reactor because he's young, and he follows along carefully about what the lyrics are saying and what the overall message that the words are telling us, "the listeners"!!! I love that anytime I come across this reactor he's always in a great mood, and seems at ease in his own skin, and I just love this 😅! No fake person doing such a great job at is obviously hard to do, when everyone expects so much from these wonderful people who are bringing us great music first and foremost, then having to slap on a smile, then edit, yep, it's hard ass work! Kudo's my lovely friend, I definitely appreciate all your hard work and dedication! As always great reaction friend...🎉🎉🎉🎶🎶🎶🤩🤩😶🌫️
Their harmonies are so tight! They're always together, right on time and timbre! Even more amazing when you know they did this during Covid lockdown and weren't even together in the studio! Adam's beatboxing is amazing, as always. Love your reaction, especially after you realized Johnny Cash did it first!
I think what’s amazing is the guy doing the “instrumentals”.
This is so very awesome. As usual they put their own twist on it. Johnny Cash would be so very proud. Love your reaction!
I hope you're able to see them live someday! I'm here to tell you, Tim's low note will move you from your seat! AMAZING! ❤
I see you reacted to Roy Clark's rendition of this song, so understandable that you thought he was the original since you'd never heard it before. To answer your question, apart from the comedy, the style and tempo of Clark's rendition was just like the original.
They’re so good. This was during Covid so they weren’t even together. Don’t pay attention to the height charts either. They’re all wrong but they’re tall guys. This was a more bluesy/jazzy version. Yeah they lyrics are rough. We figured Tim did the crime, Adam belongs in the insane asylum and the others are accomplices…hahaha. They put out so much content during Covid and I appreciate that so much. Love them. Good reaction Greg.

I do believe Johnny Cash would be proud. The boys outdid themselves.
Home Free not only known for their harmonies, but the quality of their visuals too - their videos are always top notch
It can't be otherwise with Home Free, this is amazing again. Beautifully sung, but also very well performed. Even in prison they are still funny. It's like the perfect recipe. Mix up some great voices, add some of one voice, then the other, throw in the exact amount drum kit, some low bass and great humor and you've the best result you can have!
:Loved this and it was phenomenal.
Greg, always love watching the way you move to the music. You should really see their live performance of this. A great video, starting out with Man of Constant Sorrow transitioning into Folsom Prison Blues, is the Knoxville performance of 3/3/23 on the Yvonne B channel.
The growth chart was hilarious 😂 Chance was 5 ft. Rob was 6'8"😂
Twist to Johnny
You should really check out Roy, Clark, too, because that man could play anything that had strings on it
So much FUN!! i was vibing with you...new Sub...lets see what else you've got 😎✌️
Check out Johnny Cash's version, grew up with it on my dads radio. Loved Roy Clark's version. This was ok..to me. Thanks for sharing, Greg.
Love this❤
Johnny Cash song. Nobody can do it better.
And I too think the heights are a joke. I'm pretty sure all these dudes are 6' or more. Peace, Love!!
Roy wrote the song, but Johnny made it a hit.
Austin is the train whistle.
Johnny Cash wrote and performed this song.
Johnny cash wrote the song not roy Clark
Johnny Cash cover 😊
You really need to check out Johnny Cash's version.
Hell no dude.. listen to the original... Johnny ... wow you have to listen to Johnny Cash pls ...but I love this too This group has it all. it's bluesy rocking just amazing
This is dope; dee ohhh pee dope.
The original wasn't Roy Clark. It was Johnny Cash.
Johnny Cash used to perform at Prisons for free
You should check out a different take of the guys in prison in Unchained Melody.
This version is a lot different than Jonny cash, but it's dam good
Good sound by these guys though
As much as I appreciate your playing Folsom Prison Blue's please, please listen to and give the original written and sung by Johnny Cash his turn. He's got a certain chemistry with the other inmates, being one once before. It should I say, it made them and the guards a bit more at ease. No disrespect to Home Free. Give Johnny Cash a try you just might like it. 😉
Listen to Johnny’s version
No, go listen to Johnny. This is their version.
Note their Heights on the shots. NOT accurate but completely funny. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
Adam looks like he's in the psych ward
You should compare to original cash
SORRY JOHNNY .. BUTBTHIS IS THE BETTER VERSION ❤️
I thought Johnny Cash did.
Nope. A little faster. More country twang. Do a video on it.
It’s faster
