It was a mix of a fry and a chest note, it wasn’t just the popping of the fry but not quite a growl. It’s an E1 which is the same as the subharmonic that Geoff Castellucci hits at the end of Oogie Boogie’s Song and his single blackbird

Exactly. This deserves to be pointed out. Good job at hitting the note and good job at informing him. 😊
When Tim hits those CRAZY LOW NOTES ... I get goose bumps like you wouldn't believe. I really like how they gave this song a little quicker and upbeat. Johnny Cash was amazing in his own right, but Home Free seems to constantly take these songs to the next step. Love them all!
You were basically right, but that low note was actually chest-fry, a mix of chest voice and fry, but he is able to make it sound really awesome!

Tim is so good, im not even sure if he had to use a vocal fry on that note. whats crazy is, i was watching a video on instagram with him and rob and he even said that wasnt even his lowest note on a Home Free song.
@redux1012

Andrew Stutts ya if you raise the pitch it sounds like chest cuz it’s a consistent pitch, It actually sounds better than most of Geoff’s subharmonics if you raise the pitch. So even though it sounds a lot like chest fry the pitch is so on tune that either it’s just godly chest fry or it’s just loud chest 😂

misty21411 Adam was being less like a beatboxer and more like that one guy from the Police Academy movies! Whiiccchhh may be a reference you’re too young to get. But some people will. Basically there was an actor who could legit do ALL kinds of sound effects! Everything from telephones, to a police radio, to sirens, so much stuff! There’s probably some KZread clips somewhere...

Who ever was in charge of the lighting deserves a ton of praise, especially with Tim...he looks positively demonic in that last shot.

I'm such a stickler for not changing the original songs up too much. And this is my favorite Johnny Cash song and they freaking killed it!!! I can't stop listening to it!!
Tim makes my heart flatline. Truth!
kudos to them and their producer and yes, Tim does look like the Reaper. shout out to the videographer!
I love the part where Adam does the shotgun sound when he said he shot the man just to see him die! Your reactions are fantastic keep up the good work!
I think this is the best they've ever been, and that's saying something. I love the original and I think they guys started true to it, put their own spin to it, brought it into the 2020's and knocked it out of the park. Thanks for a great reaction!

this was great Dave 😂😂 that anticipation before the E1 was hilarious
guys listen to what Dave says about notes and textures...dude knows his stuff...if i remember correctly Dave said he studied music in college...always so spot on and that is one of about 5 reasons i love to watch Dave's reactions..the smile and personality are 2 more reasons...keep doing what it do DAVE
I'm so late, but I LOVE not just this song but also what you mention at 3:30! Yes, this must have been an intentional move on their part to put all those shadows on Tim. Even his background is darker. I love it because he's the only one with lyrics talking about actually being glad he could just kill some for the heck of it. We don't know about the others. They could have been innocent, guilty of minor infractions, or remorseful. That grin by Tim just throws out the remorseful option in my eyes😂 That and his deep notes just make him seem so threatening and I love it for this. Someone mentioned them wanting to see Home Free, this scenario, in a movie and I second it strongly. I would love seeing each of them try these roles out and Evil Tim would be so fun
It took me a little while to realize that owoo owoo sound they were making is the sound of the train going past the prison, blowing its whistle.
I wonder how the Late Great MIB JC would react to this version o0 ?? I think he would love it. also Tims Face was DAMN RIGHT I HIT " THAT " !!!

I love it when Tim does those basement notes! This sounded so good.
Tim is so good when it comes to chest fry. He's like the more modern version of Tim Storms because if you listen to "Lonesome Road" covered by Tim Storms, he uses chest fry so well.
New Home Fry (new fan since December) story theory. Chance, Rob and Austin are way to relaxed. They confessed and cut a deal. Tim was furious and caused Adam to go to the pysch ward. 😂😂😂
Austin, Rob, and Chance were killing it with the vocals! Austin is the one with the longer hair, Rob is the one with the long beard, and Chance is the guy who can go low too!!
Definitely Johnny Cash's signature song. Pete Rock did a nice remix of it as well. I like that they didn't try to do a version of the original but made it their own thing.
Adam's beatboxing at its best. Tim's low notes are awesome!
That note by Tim that you claimed was a vocal fry is actually a chest fry. The note was an E1. To my knowledge Tim has never done sub-harmonics, but I would definitely love to hear him try.

Man, I love this! Big Johnny Cash fan! Also, have you ever watched the movie "Walk the Line"? It is about Johnny Cash's life.
Not only does Adam have his jumpsuit buttoned all the way up, his suit is also the only one to still have the fold creases in them! I don't know why that amused me so much when I noticed it, but it did.

Lol it’s so much fun watching your reaction to these guys!!! Especially Tim of course and he looks like the real criminal in this one
Yes, this definitely a Johnny Cash classic, though I must admit I'd heard of it, more than I had actually heard the song. This version sounds great, though, they've taken it and done their own version, rather than trying to copy Johnny Cash's take on it. Thank for another great reaction, I always enjoy what you have to say. You have to remember that they are still filming these separately from home, and Adam Rupp has a new baby in the house, he probably didn't have time to check with the others how they were doing their buttons. Or he was going for the psycho look with his costume as well. 😉 As for Tim, he was definitely going for scary in this one - it's amazing what some basic lighting effects will do.

Love your reactions. You’re right - Tim is a dragon. : ) I loved this! These boys are so damn good aren’t they? Tim looked evil at the end of that note and Adam was killing the beatboxing. I have several favorites I enjoy. However, I love both the video & the mash up of 'Thinking Out Loud / Let's Get It On'. They work well together. I feel as if watching a staged play.
That chest fry always hits me square through the heart!! My breath stutters and stops, so I get where you're coming from with it lol
I love the evil smile Tim has when he hits that awesomely fantastic low note!!
I think you are remembering Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue." That's the story song and I am pretty sure you did a reaction to it. This is a banger from Home Free - like I expect anything else. Thanks for the reaction - great as usual.
Atta boy, Dave! It makes me feel good that you appreciate them as much as I do.
You had a great reaction to this! That was funny😊
Johnny wrote lots of songs with stories...that was a part of him...
Johnny Cash sang this in prison and the inmates loved it.
Cash wrote this after watching a documentary inside walls of Folsom county prison it actually turned his life around. And Adam gun reloading sound is the bomb everyone misses that and the Choo choo train
You actually hit the E1 with just fry yourself. Nice! Tim did it with chest-fry, but doing a good fry E1 is still really hard so good job! ;)
Hi Dave, love your reactions. I've watched this song quite a few times now, and this is the first time I've noticed that the height measuring lines behind them are messed up! Says Chance is only 5 feet tall, haha! Pretty sure that's wrong!
Nice reaction, Dave.
Wasn’t that incredible?! You hit that low pretty good, Dave!! I’m impressed! I really enjoyed that reaction!! I’m not a fan of Johnny, but the guys made it their own, like they do with every other cover to do! They work that magic that makes us like a song we normally wouldn’t listen to!
So awesome seeing Tim doing some vocal fry, I loved it.
Did everyone see that evil grin on that last drop note from Tim? Yeah! He's got it and he knows it! He was in character as a really bad criminal!

It was a subharmonic but really well done. Listen to how he slides to it, that's conducive of a subharmonic, maybe he uses a little fry.

The buttoned to the top is the cannibal serial killer vibe. lol The way the light made the jump suit reflect red on his lower lip made it look like his lip had blood on it, just adding to the maniac vibe I watched Blue Ain't Your Color (they were so clean cut and handsomely turned out for that) then I watched this directly after. The contrast is jarring. They are amazing how they can go from one type of character to another. Their role playing is almost as good as their musicianship.
