As a new shooter & gun owner I was to say thank you for this video. Was torn on which Optic I wanted for my 1st. Not only did this video help I took the tips with me when I went to the LGR. Met a couple of experienced guys who all had different Optics & they were kind enough to let me shoot a few rounds to see. The 407 was my pick. Simple & budget friendly. Love the Gun Community

I’ve been away from your site for a while, but your earlier video about the differences between the 407K and the 507k influenced my red dot purchase decision. I really preferred the 6 MOA and didn’t see myself using the various options on the 507k. And when you factor the cost differential between the two, the 407k was my obvious choice. So I have two 407s now…the 407k on my Sig Sauer P365X Macro, and the 407c on a Sig P320X Compact, and I’m very happy with my choices. Thanks for your excellent and very helpful videos!

Great video. Only thing I would add is that the Solar/MRS option on the EPS Carry includes auto-adjusting brightness which you don't get on the other models. That was the only reason I bought the MRS over just a 2 MOA dot only version. I upgraded from the 507K first gen with the big buttons to get the enclosed emitter for my 365XL.

407k. Open emitter has worked for me for a very long time. If you need a closed emitter for outdoors stuff like yardwork that makes sense. Also some trades workers like ironworkers and woodworkers will have an easier time heeling the emitter from getting clogged up. The rest of us could save the money and use an open emitter. The 6 MOA dot is perfect on a slimline. Easier to pick up and self defense distances are very short meaning we dont need the precision of a smaller dot. Generally I think the 407k makes sense for most of us, in whatever color works better for their eyes.

One thing I'd say about open emitter vs closed is if you carry concealed you may find that your shed skin (if you don't wear an undershirt), or your clothing's fuzz from rubbing against holster/pistol, accumulate. I'd think most folks check their optics regularly and note whether they're obscured at the start & end of each day, but for forgetful or no-maintenance folks it may be a real thing to consider.

I wanted a 407k but ended up with a 507k due to stock issues, and the store offering me a great deal on it. At first I was convinced that I would only end up using the dot, but started out using the circle-dot to train the muscle memory in finding the dot. It's a year later and I'm still using the circle-dot. I find it's a great compromise between rapidly finding the sight, and accurate shot-placement. Personally I don't find it too busy at all, although I do think that the ACSS Vulcan is probably better. One last thing to mention is that a larger dot (or circle-dot) is much easier to find in challenging lighting conditions, such as shooting from the inside of a building into a bright sunshine environment.

Very informative video! I have the 507 and it’s reticle is very versatile. Here in Canada we can not conceal carry, so it’s range only. That said, the 507 with the 2 moa dot will give a very precise shot. The circle dot reticle gives you both speed & accuracy. The big 32 moa donut gives you a very speedy acquisition to target and the tiny dot (again) very precise. The Mozambique drill (failure drill as you kids call it) is a great drill to test out both speed and accuracy. I can see with the 6moa dot, it would be fine for quicker target acquisition. But I can only imagine that in Canada.

So my first red dot I ever had was the 507K, and it went on my competition firearm. Truth be told, I chose it mainly for the price compared to some other popular optics and it has the side load battery. Aside from that, I didn’t really know anything about red dots. Now that I’ve trained with it and practiced with it quite a bit, I recently got an optic for my every day conceal carry, and I went with the EPS for the reason of the closed emitter. Knowing that I would be carrying every day, I was willing to spend the extra money for an optic that I can easily keep clean and ready in the event I need to use it.

@@superrad1659 interesting that you ask me this question since I’ve taken an 8 hour RDS pistol class using my 507k on my G19 gen4, and I recently just got my G19x slide milled with the 507 ACSS back, I am about to take a defensive pistol class With it…. For now, the 507 ACSS is pretty darn nice but the battery life is less of using the full reticle (20,000 hours I think). 507k is decent especially on a smaller frame handgun with the reticle options, although it requires practice to be proficient in quick RDS acquisition. Depends on your application. When I’m back from taking this class in 2 weeks, I’ll let you know.

I went with 407k's because a) I have at least two handguns to equip so budget does factor in, b) they've been perfectly "fine" for the use cases of concealed carry and nightstand gun, and c) I want to see closed emitter optics mature a bit more before buying in. I acknowledge that closed emitter optics are the future of pistol red dots, but I'm not seeing the Comp M3 of the pistol sight world just yet in terms of price, durability, and reliability.

To add a bit more here: Green reticles are awesome for specialty use like if you have astigmatism. (Turn the brightness down and cowitness it with BUIS.) The main downside to green is battery life is a lot lesser in general. Though, ActiveSelfProtection had some good advice of "change your optic batteries every time you change your smoke alarm batteries" and I agree for the most part. For general purpose, red dots work fine for the majority of people. The circle only reticle is especially good if you plan to use shotguns of any sort, as you can use the circle to pattern buckshot and find one that stays inside the circle at whatever distance. Patterning buck is the shotgun equivalent to compensating for your offset on a carbine. Circle reticles like Holosun, EOTech, etc are very useful for this (as are plain ghost ring sights). I personally consider them to be essential on any fighting shotgun. Holosun is a good option for those on a budget which is the main selling point of shotguns. It's not difficult at all to buy a Mossberg 500, screw an XS rail on it, and mount a Holosun to it, then stoke it with something like Federal FLITE CONTROL if you're on a tight budget. Although personally I would recommend spending a bit more on your gun and optic, like a 590A1 with an EOtech. Buy once, cry once. But if you're on a tight budget, or if you're looking for your first dot to get over the initial learning curve, a Holosun definitely isn't the worst option out there.

I love the circle dot reticle on my 20 gauge…circle is a good shot pattern reticle and the middle dot means you can alternate in slugs.

I just picked up a EPS carry with a green circle and dot with the solar panel. I have been carrying a Hex Wasp which is an open emitted with a 2 MOA dot. I like the small smaller MOA dot for longer distance shots, but it can be harder to find. That is why I went with the 32 MOA circle option. The Hex Wasp is always on and it has an auto brightness feature. It responds pretty quickly so dot brightness hasn’t really been an issue. I chose green since the eye can pick it up much more easily than red. Green is in the middle of the visible range while red is at the bottom. My vision is starting to decline as I’m getting older so better to get the more visible sight now. I have had issues with dust and lint getting on the inside of the reticle so I went with the EPS. I haven’t had issues with anything blocking the emitter, but the glass has gotten dirty. I see myself carrying this setup for the foreseeable future so spending a little more made sense for me.

i dumped the 407k as the dot seemed to starburst due to my astigmatism. I had great results and history with the 507c on another firearm with my only grip being dust in the emitter. i finally settled on the eps carry green mrs with solar. just left the range and it felt right at home

I’d love if Holosun made the holy grail of micro dots - 6MOA dot, ACSS outer circle, enclosed emitter with the SCS charging and auto brightness system (@holosun this opinion is objectively correct)

Trijicon isn't even close to comparable to Holosun. I've dropped my 407C X2 on its solar panel, directly on concrete, from about 5 feet, and it's alive and working. Just a minor scratch. Dropped my RMR from 3 feet on the carpet and cracked the glass in the corner. I have the 407C, 507k red, 507k green, and I just picked up the EPS Carry green today. I'll never go back.

We just replaced the 507k on my wife’s G48 with the ACSS Vulcan dot version of the same hardware. It really is a fantastic match for these slimline optics - it effectively makes the window 3 times bigger.

ACSS/Chevron/EPS (carry) would be the most popular package Holosun ever made, absolute dream optic... Assuming it wasnt a $600 sight lol.

Most competitive shooters I have talked to seem to like the 6 moa dot. Some people recommend getting the 2 moa dot and bloom it to whatever size from there. John at ASP likes to use the 32 moa circle without dot. So it boils down to personal preference or what you intend on using it for. I personally, liked the Holosun 407CO which had the 8 moa circle. It is perfect for me. But I can not find that reticle in any other optic and I think they may have even stopped manufacturing them? Which is too bad, because I would love that reticle in a 507k. Thank you for your time and all your work you put into these videos.

I'd say it depends on your mindset (speed >> accuracy, or accuracy >> speed). I've competed for a couple of years now, have experimented with Holosun multi-reticles -- 2moa dot only, 32moa ring only, and dot + ring. I don't like dot + ring for anything. For Steel Challenge, the ring only is good because targets are generous IMO. In USPSA, I don't find the ring useful for head A zone shots, not precise enough for my eyes/mind. For general precision I prefer the 2moa. I'd also say the EPS/EPS Carry have a crisper view and sharper/rounder reticle dot. I have the full size EPS in 2moa dot and it's perfect. Don't miss the ring at all.

I've had both optics mounted on different guns for a while and never noticed how much less distortion/magnification the EPS carry has than the 507k until I went today and did some drills on a really sunny/bright day. Something about the Sun shining down from the direction of the target made the 507k distortion and slight magnification much more noticeable. Surprised me considering the EPS carry has 2 lenses compared to just the 1 on the 507k.

An x-factor for me choosing between the 407K & 507K is the 6 MOA dot is MUCH more refined with zero blooming compared to the 507K in dot only setup. Everyone's eyes are different but for me the difference is drastic.

I have two 507C x2 on two guns (one in red, one in green). Those have the Primary Arms ACSS reticles which is a chevron instead of a dot with a large outside circle which can guide you to the chevron if you are tilted too far off axis to pick up the chevron. The guiding circle can be turned off once you train to pick up the chevon quickly when presenting the firearm. Different parts of the chevon also helps with precise placement for 25 yards, 50 yards and 100 yards. I just got the green one and have not had time to decide which color I prefer.
