HOLIDAY HAM: How to Avoid Common Mistakes & Make a Costco Spiral Cut Ham Even Better

If you plan on making a Holiday Ham from Costco, this video will show you how to avoid common mistakes and make it juicy, delicious, and the best it can be. Read on for a step-by-step guide.
Spiral cut hams from Costco come with a packet of glaze, but for this recipe, we're going to make our own glaze. In keeping with tradition, I'm also adding pineapple slices and maraschino cherries. Here's what you'll need:
spiral cut, bone-in ham (mine was 9.5 lbs.)
1 can pineapple slices, plus 1/2 cup of pineapple juice from the can
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1 Tbsp. dijon mustard
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
The ham is already pre-cooked, so you're basically reheating the ham to reach an internal temperature of 140º. On average, it takes 12-15 minutes per pound. Since my ham weighed 9.5 lbs., I multiplied that by 12 and figured it would take a little over 2 hours. (It ended up taking 2 1/2)
First preheat your oven to 275º. Line your baking dish with enough aluminum foil to completely cover your ham on all sides. Remove all packaging and place ham flat side down in baking dish. Use toothpicks to secure pineapple slices and maraschino cherries on top. (The ham will render its own juices, so there's no need to put any glaze or additional liquid at this point. That is the most common mistake people make. When the glaze is poured in too early, what ends up happening is the ham boils in all the liquid instead of baking.) Cover ham securely with foil and place in the oven. Do not check on it until last half hour of cooking time. (If your ham is going to take 2 1/2 hours to reheat, that means, don't check on it until 2 hours later.)
Approximately 10 minutes before it's time to check on your ham is when you want to make the glaze. Place brown sugar, pineapple juice, honey, dijon mustard, garlic powder and ground cloves in small sauce pan. Whisk together until smooth, then place on stovetop over medium high heat. Let it reach a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Take ham out of the oven, increase the temperature of the oven to 475º. Carefully, fold aluminum foil down the sides of the pan so that ham is fully exposed. Then pour some of the glaze all over the top. Use a brush to get it into all the nooks and crannies of the ham. Then return the ham to the oven for the remaining time. Continue to baste with more glaze every 15 minutes, until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140º. Remove from oven and let rest for 15-20 minutes before cutting into it.

I find if meats or anything directly taken out of the fridge adds another 15-20 minutes baking time..Blessed Easter to everyone 🐣
