HobbyKing Corsair maiden and review! Bad take offs and landings. Needs some work.

Ойын-сауық

"HK" HobbyKing Corsair. Based on their recommended CG, the weight and balance was way off. Worked to make it right and well, watch the video. Ended up removing and moving weight to get a stable platform. Flying hard or slow, no good! A pro, it didn't break! Let me know what you think!

I have this and the P51. You have to be on throttle most of the flight to keep it in the air. The stall speed is high. Have not maidened through F4 yet, fear of crashing it because they are very beautiful planes. The foam is super soft and the paint is delicate. I miffed my P51 landing by 3 ft and hit medium grass that tore the mains off. Nice landings! 1.1 or 1.2m would be sweet for these.

I enjoyed this little warbird. Until I stalled her, with a little help from another planes thrusts. It does require a lot of rudder corrections during the take off. I also added flaps on it. BTW, about your second take off. If you were correcting mainly with the aileron, this bird will definitely go into that tip stall. Any corrections made with ailerons at minimum controllable airspeed will worsen the situation. Sometimes, it takes me half the rudder stick travel to keep my warbirds in a straight line on take off. My experience with it. A softer tire helps with the landing. I use Dave Brown 1.75"x13mm wheels. Clean fit. Also, I think most warbirds like to just be "flown down", instead of flare for 3 points. Will purchase another one when they have it in stock again.

Despite its size, definitely not for a beginner and definitely needs to be flown on take off and down to landing! Thanks for the comment! How'd the flaps go on it?

@@Jeffroe111 I just cut part of the flap with a hobby knife, so it's a partial flap. Then put a 9g servo on each side. Add control horns and linkages. Not a huge amount of change, but it does land slower.

@@Jeffroe111 If you've never done any customizations on flaps. This little 90 bucks plane might be a good start. Also, I used Du-bro micro control horns and hinges.

I have 2 of these baby's, I thought I needed a wing for mine that tipped over but I still fly it with the damaged wing without a problem, so the other one is waiting to be a parts donor LOL. So my first one I flew about 5 times very clean no issues or stalls, well first time I flew on a windy day and the wind was changing directions badly when I took off I got about 5 feet in the air and a gust hit the right wing and gave it a kick, so I panicked and hit the go button well that wasnt smart at all, the torque roll took over and into the ground it went, I was so upset over it, because I had successfully flown it 5 times already unlike my P51 I cant seem to keep throttle into, I wont go down that rabbit hole. So it scratched both wing tips, broke the prop and scratched the top of the elevator since it had flipped over on its top. I ended up buying a new plane because it was like $35 just for the wing and I could get a whole new plane for $100 so I opted for that. I ended up using the FMS 4 blade prop for the 800mm P51 and the unit for there F4U Corsair to keep it looking right, it fly's great on a 850 3s shoved all the way up front and beat up wing tips, I did a speed test today and got 59mph as a top speed. Oh and I did tip stalled it into a short tree yesterday as well, now it has scratches all over the place but still fly's well. I got some new soft mains on I will test today and better tail wheel coming. I like the challenge it gives me, I do not fly under 30% throttle flying straight unless on my final approach landing, and Never ever under 50% throttle in a turn, that's after yesterdays tip stall event LOL. Great video and it shows well how the characteristics of this plane will challenge anyone flying it LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I was laughing at myself about the whole time flying that thing. Definitely gave me a challenge and something different to handle! Fun little plane once you get it all set up right. Good to have a second for spare parts too, happy flying!

I have 2 of these. Had the cog good with 75g of lead in the front and wasn’t expecting to put that much in. On the maiden on the first one I got a take off and landed. It was a short flight because of the little amount of control of it. After that every time I got it in the air and I had no control at all. I had 3 fly offs with it and eventually finding it it was badly damaged. I had already ordered another one because Hobby king had no spare parts for them. The second plane had 2 fly offs just like the first one. Has anyone had the same experience and if so how did you fix it! I was credited for one plane which was good. A mate that has been flying for many decades bought a plane from the same factory and he had similar problems and found the gyro was installed upside down and he fixed that and problem solved. I asked the HK tech guy if a gyro was installed upside down and he said you would have no control over the plane. He realised that it was one of their planes he said they are meant to be like that. Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed it I would love to hear about it and appreciate it. Cheers Peter

I have 2 off these (one for spares) and both have had fly off because of no control. A mate has a plane from the same family and he found the gyro was installed upside down from new He fitted it by putting the gyro the right way up and fixed it. Hobby Kings tech guy told me that a plane with the gyro upside down you would have no control over it. That was before he found out it was a HK plane and then said they are supposed to be upside down. Has anyone had the same or similar and the same happen to your plane and how you fixed it? Cheers Peter

It is a cute little plane! But I'm not personally a big fan of the corsair.. in fact I don't have a single warbird (unless an unbuilt wwII prototype jet counts in the Li P.15 Diana)

I would love to see some German birds in this line up like the 109 or ju87 but I also would love to see a model of the Dutch Fokker d21
