    You saved me by this little tutorial, a plumber would have cost me $200. I cleaned my stovetop but didn't watch you first! I have been 2 weeks without the front burner until I watched the charbroil issue. I have a charbroiler ,too. Fabulous, plus I think regular maintance prevents big bills. It's a home so always worried about fires.

    Ariana - Thank you for the comment and I apologize for not going more in-depth on this subject in this video. We do plan on doing a full tutorial on changing the oil in the near future. But to answer your question, these mixers take Hobart specific oil that is only available from Hobart or a Hobart authorized service company. Contact your local Hobart representative for pricing. Hopefully this helps you, and if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask!

  • @Windycityequip
    @Windycityequip8 жыл бұрын

    +Manuel Caballero Good question. This doesn't have a definite answer, you will have to monitor it though. Oil in mixers doesn't break down as quickly as oil in say, a car engine, because there is very little heat involved. You DO have to conscious of metal shaving and bacteria infiltration (being in a food service application). Usually once every couple of years will do the trick. Just keep an eye on it every 6 months or so. Check to make sure the oil is still the proper color and doesn't look watery. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!!

    Hello, thank you for your contribution to us do it yourself guys. I have just purchased a Hobart bowl chopper (Buffalo chopper) model 84186. I want to service it before I use it. The only way to access the two oil reservoirs is to turn the machine on its back and remove the bottom cover. There is a drain plug on the bottom of each reservoir but no fill level hole or sight glass, how do know what the oil level is at. Also what type of oil do I use. Thanks for any help you can provide, I cannot find information anywhere. All the best, Joe.

    +chris a Unfortunately I walk a fine line in recommending a specific oil to use since Hobart always recommends using "Hobart" oil. What I CAN say is that anything under a 90w Gear Oil would be too light for a Hobart H600 ;-) Thanks for watching!

  • @MrBiglog66

    @MrBiglog66

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'll tell you EXACTLY what type of oil to use and why! As a former Hobart Tech who worked on 100's of these mixers, you use Hobarts Mobilgear 634. The reason is that this is FOODGRADE oil and safe to use when working with food preparation. If you want petroleum oils leaking into your mixing bowls, IF they do leak, then you're possibly dealing with Health Standard issues. Now you know!

    Can you upload the video for a V1401 doing the same thing please? I have oil running down the arm that the attachments affix to, so I am guessing that some o-ring, gaskets, and possibly bearings may need to be replaced. Thanks!

  • @Windycityequip

    @Windycityequip

    9 жыл бұрын

    Close but no cigar I don't often see V1401 Mixers around anymore so it is really hard for me to get video of it. But, from what you are describing it sounds like you may need a new Planetary Seal (Part # P-68045). But to change it, the whole planetary has to has to come down and as long as that is coming down you should change the Bearing as well (Part # BB-9-45). It may not be necessary, but Part #s D-67500-21, P-64384-2, and M-67903 could also be contributing and you may want to request the technician have them on hand when doing this job, just in case. I do not recommend any tech who doesn't have adequate Hobart training try to do this as it can get a little complex. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!!

    i need to replace the planetary shaft bearing and I assume it will be wise to change the oil seal as well. my question is, do I need to take the shaft pin out in order to take out the seal and replace it? i already got how to replace the bearings. Thanks for your advice.

  • @Windycityequip

    @Windycityequip

    9 жыл бұрын

    Paul Tsasa Absolutely change the seals as long as you are doing the bearings anyways. And no, you do not need to take the beater pin out of the shaft when you do the bearings/seals because once you remove the planetary, the shaft can be pressed downward through the bottom of the planetary. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    Hello, I have Globe mixer I believe 40 or 60 Qt if not mistaken. I see a bit of grease coming up from top part since I use it to grinde falafel and not mixing dough. 1) I do have to change oil? I think this unit does not have ANY place to replace oil. I am assuming there is no place to change oil. 2) Reload grease somewhere? thank you Sir

  • @Windycityequip

    @Windycityequip

    Depending on the age of that mixer it could use grease or oil. The newer models use oil and it can be replaced by removing the drain plug on the under-side of the mixer head. And refilled by removing the mixer "top" to expose the gear-box. Then there should be a plug on the top that can be removed to fill the oil. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the helpful video. Would you be able to make a similar one for the Hobart N50 tabletop mixer by any chance? (It doesn't have a lid that lifts off like the 60QT one.) Mine is slowly dripping blue oil into the bowl and after several years of this, I'm worried the level might be dropping too low inside. (It doesn't have a sight gauge either to tell the level.) Thanks again for posting!

    +Robert Enenkel If I can get my hands on an N50 I will be sure to post a video on it. It sounds like you may just need new planetary seals. And, if I'm not mistaken, the N50 used grease instead of oil which is why its blue and you don't have a sight glass. Over time, the grease breaks down, just as oil does, and can become runny allowing it to drip. As soon as I come across an N50 I'll be sure to post some videos and let you know. Thanks for watching!

    Lisa, I am SO sorry, not sure how your comment slipped through the cracks. Here is how to change the oil: Planetary To check, DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY and remove the drip cup-splash guard, which is secured by three screws. Remove the Planetary Fill Plug. Oil should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole. If the oil is not at the proper level, slowly add the recommended planetary lubricant until the proper level is achieved. Replace the fill plug and the drip cup-splash guard. A Planetary Drain Plug is located on the bottom of the planetary. Should draining become necessary, remove the drip cup-splash guard and place a suitable catch pan under the drain plug. Remove the drain plug, allow the oil to completely drain, and replace the drain plug. Remove the fill plug and pour in 6 fluid ounces of the recommended planetary lubricant. Replace the fill plug and the drip cup-splash guard. Contact your local Hobart Service Office for the recommended planetary lubricant. Transmission The transmission oil should be even with the line on the oil level gauge when the motor is NOT running. If the oil falls below this line, DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY and remove the top cover, which is secured by two screws. Remove the Transmission Fill Plug and add a small amount of the recommended transmission oil until it returns to the proper level. DO NOT overfill the transmission - leakage may result. Hook To install, place hook over the shaft and make sure the pin is in the channel. Rotate to lock in place (hook should drop slightly and pin should rest in channel). To Remove, Lift the hook and rotate in opposite direction. Drop down and remove from shaft.

    I posted the actual Hobart lubricant requirement from the service manual up ^^^ in response to another user. The gear oil recommended by Hobart (Mobile Gear 634) is very expensive ($40 a quart) - A cheaper option is to use Mobil Gear 600 XP 150 which sells for less that $30 a gallon. Here is a link to the H600 Service Manual which has the lubricant requirements - www.manualslib.com/manual/1064440/Hobart-H600.html

    Arthur D'Addario Unfortunately the issue you are describing could be the result of several things. In this order I would check the following 1) Safety switches (Bowl lift [located behind the lifting mechanism silver panel], Cage Magnet/Switch [if equipped with a cage], or transmission micro switch [located behind the silver plate that indicates the gears]) 2) The Timer (if equipped with timer) 3) the Start Switch or 4) the micro switch attached to the contactor itself. I always recommend Hobart brand oil for their machines, but if you scroll down and look at some of the past comments there may be some useful information there ;-) Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

    Any Hobart mixer from 60 QT and larger has an oil pump. 30 QT, 20 QT, and 12 QT use grease. Does your unit have a handwheel to raise the bowl which is found on the larger mixers ? And if you still do not know the model there is usually a number stamped on the bowl, if the OEM bowl, that will show the bowl size.

    That sounds like the overloads are shutting the unit down. That will happen under a heavy or too heavy load. The overload assy uses small heater assys. that will trip the thermal overload on larger units. After the overload cools down it will reset.

    Ebony Hall I always recommend using the oil that Hobart supplies. There is other gear oil you can use, but I cannot guarantee it will provide the correct lubrication and may damage your mixer. What I CAN tell you is that anything under 90w is wayyy too light for an H600 ;-)

    Looking on the internet everybody servicing Hobart mixer seems to have an opinion on what lubricant to use. The Hobart Service Manual I have for the H600/P660/L800 calls for "Mobile Gear 634" for the gear box. As to the planetary, for model with a Planetary oil pump use the same oil "Mobile Gear 634".Without a Planetary oil pump use "Chevron FM EP NLGI 2". The slideways and Bowl lift screws. should be lubricated with a light coat of "Lubriplate 630AA" The bowl lift gearing should be lubricated with "Chevron FM EP NLGI 2"

  • @Windycityequip

    6 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't recommend it for a long period of time. Also try to transport in an upright position. I will say that the A200 uses grease, not oil, so unless the grease has liquefied, you shouldnt get a lot of leakage like you would in an H600 or L800. But I still worry about something getting dislodged or displaced by transporting on its side. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!!

  • @Windycityequip

    @Windycityequip

    This could be many things, but most likely the planetary is overfilled. If it wasnt manually overfilled then the chimney seal is most likely bad and the whole transmission would have to come apart to re-seal it. Usually about $700-1000 job. Hope this helps a bit. Thanks for watching!

    Is this the same for the Hobart M802 as well?

  • @Windycityequip

    @Windycityequip

    10 жыл бұрын

    Michelle Urps It is very similar on the M802 mixers, but not exactly the same. Instead of there being a pipe on the top of the transmission that unthreads to expose the "fill hole" there is a dedicated bolt that you will need to unthread. However, because it is a closed system, there shouldn't be a need to change the oil ever unless it is contaminated. The only way that would happen is if the seals are bad in your square drive (where the attachments go in) and product discharge is seeping into it. Hope this helps! And thanks for watching!

  • @Windycityequip

    @Windycityequip

    6 жыл бұрын

    It doesn't really matter if you push it out or pry it out. I've done it both ways and the important thing is that it comes out haha. The new sight glass comes complete with bezel so you don't really have anything to worry about if you damage the old one. Just pop the old one out, clean the inside edges of the hole, and put a bead of silicone sealant around the new one. Press it in tight. Be sure not to hammer on the sight glass itself. Often, I've used a small block of wood so I can put pressure on the whole sight glass at one time and gently tap it in with a mallet. Clean excess silicone off the edge when you're done and you're all set! Thanks for watching!
