Thank you for this great tutorial & video for replacing the grease in my wife's KitchenAid. I followed the steps exactly and everything worked as smoothly as you led us to believe. It is too bad that this leaking grease issue is even an issue but we got it resolved in a very short time. From start to finish it was about 2 hours however I was meticulous about cleaning everything precisely. Thanks very much.

@@equams I just ordered Food grade grease for Stand Mixers from eBay. It is also available in Amazon. For 4 OZ can it is $11.99. Sometime free shipping, depends. Should not buy from Automotive Parts store because normally they do not carry food grade grease. There are many other stores. Sears Parts direct was selling at very high price. It is very important to buy food safe grease.

i enjoyed the entire video, but I only needed to see a small amount, to decide I CAN clean and re-lube the gears below the blade shaft in an old GE food processor. When I took apart the container and blade and shaft, and the base ring, I found a double gasket that I thought might have been a retrofit. It wasn't, but there was a slight gap between the gaskets. Pulled apart, I found the gear housing. Probably I wasn't supposed to be able to access an originally sealed housing. But there it was. the inside of the housing and the gears are coated with what looks like dried up chocolate gunk. I suspect its old lubricant? I will order the H1 (food grade) lubricant, clean the gears and housing carefully and re-lube and put the thingamajig back together.... Thank you sooo much! I had been looking all over for guidance and finally found your video.

You get an A for repacking the grease but an F for fixing the leak there should be o rings on the shafts that need to be replaced that seal the grease in. Some grease will separate a little when sitting for long periods which is normal. Even KA's manual says this normal and suggest running It for a few minutes to mix it back up.

Did it really have a problem though, because mine also leaks tiny amounts of grease (mostly when it has to work hard for bread dough),. So I just wipe it once in a while so it doesn't get into the dough. The grease is quite expensive also, so I'm thinking the real solution is to just get a more powerful machine.

Thank you for making this awesome video! Mine KitchenAid® Artisan® Tilt Head Stand Mixer's beater shaft ( the center shaft) always has black oil around it while kneading. The problem is that the dough got the black oil and I had to keep my eyes on it and to take it off the black oil on the dough. There's times I have to through away the dough! The company said that is because the coated attachment is rubbing with the the beater shaft so it is normal. All I need to do is to clear the beater shaft well when it's done. Is this really normal?

I've used a punch and hammer, and then a bit from a screw driver, to better cover the overall size of the surface of the pin, and a hammer. I have even sprayed it with WD40 in hopes that some would leak between the pin and it's chamber. I wiggled the whole planetary in hopes of getting the WD40 in better. I've tried putting the mixer at every angle.... upright, upside down and on it's side. I've tried both sides of the pin. I've even had 2 other people try it ... but nothing is working! And the end of the pin, and area around the pin is taking a beating. 😢 Edit: Extra information about my model. It is an Artisan and does not have screws under the silver name band thingy.

When removing “pins” ALWAYS use a somewhat smaller diameter punch on the center of the pin as not to mushroom 🍄 the end/edges of the pin, which can cause it to get locked into place/damaging both itself and the holes inner diameter during repeated hammering.

Sadly this didn't stop any leaks. It just paused them. This is clearly a design flaw. The gearbox does not seal adequately, there are not seals on the planetary shaft. We should be able to use wheel bearing grease. The grease should stay INSIDE the gearbox!

Thanks for the video. I used your video and one on ereplacement parts kzread.info/dash/bejne/apl_qrivfrublbw.html I noticed when taking the 4 screws out, that hold the top housing to the base, that only one of the screws has a lock washer. That screw was in the back and I put that screw back in the same location. Also, the amount of grease in the planetary gears seems like it should be much less. See what ereplacement does. Lastly, next time, I am not going to remove all the gears to re-grease but I didn't mind doing that this time as I too was switching from dark grease to white grease. The white grease will not stand out as the dark grease when it starts to break down and drip. Thanks again.

The grease was leaking because the oring on the shaft was worn out. You never changed it. 😂😂😂 Kitchen Aids are awesome, but they really need to reengineer this regreasing process. In the video you can see how the majority of its userbase was not able to maintain it fully (the man had to step in, in various parts, because the woman could not assemble it fully). Perhaps a system similar to cars, where you I left new grease and the old comes out.

Yes the plastic gear you are referring to, it’s called the worm gear, it’s deliberately made plastic, as a failsafe gear. It’s designed to fail, if too much torque is put on the mixer attachments. If it was made of steel, it would be a risk of damaging the expensive motor.
