Well done those who made this tribute, the Type 12s were excellent ships, mother of the Leanders. My father was TTL, he commanded Tenby, a sister to Yarmouth in 1962/3 and used to take me to sea with him in the school holidays (Dartmouth Sqn. F17) and of course was in it with all of you in the Falkland's conflict. A noble cause from which you all deserve the honours and everlasting memory of what you achieved.

I was one of four anti aircraft gunners. We each had two LMG's on a mount built by a Squadron member on the way to the Falklands. 11 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers. We defended the RFA Sir Bedivere. If it wasn't for the missile defence put up by HMS Yarmouth and her sisters the loses would have been catastrophic. Rapier batteries ashore also added to the defence of the fleet. On our ship the main defense was two 40mm bofors guns at the bow. We where positioned on the flight deck and outside of the mess deck hatches. Giving some sort of all round defense. Between us we were credited with shooting down a .iMirage but I don't know if that still stands. We had a glancing blow from a 1000lb "return to sender" bomb. Dropped by a Skyhawk. The "return to sender" is because these bombs were sold to Argentina along with the Canberra bombers to drop them. Some years before the war.

The three ships were south of Puerto Argentino attacking the airport with naval fire, when they were caught by surprise by three Dagger aircraft. Malvinas Argentinas.
This ship was attacked the 1st of may 1982 along with the HMS Arrow and the HMS Sheffield. Sheffield was hit by 250 lbs bombs from Argentine Air Force planes. The three ships were south of Puerto Argentino attacking the airport with naval fire, when they were caught by surprise by three Dagger aircraft. This was the second time the british invaded and attacked the islands... 1833 and 1982. Shame on you!
