Served 8 Happy years on Fearless 94 through to when she payed off., The ship was a big part of my Naval Career. Great times and a great ship as well as the crew. It was a sad day when she payed off steaming into Portsmouth after a deployment. Lots of fond happy times.

I served on HMS Fearless as my first ship in the Royal navy from December 1981 until after the med trip after the Falklands war. I was the MA on the 4th Assault Sqdrn and left the RN/RM Medical branch as a WO1 MA(ODA) 4 years ago , after 32 years of service . Fearless was my First and best ship - West Indies, Med and Norway of course. Tom Andrew was my CPOMA and Bob Lockhart was The POMA. My final ship was HMS Sutherland as the Executive Warrant Officer.

My old man served on HMS Fearless 1975/78, the first RN ship I clearly recall visiting. I kept a sharp eye out for her during the Falklands War as she dodged the bombs in San Carlos Water. Pleased you got in & out in one piece, David.

I served in 6ASRM and 4ASRM 1991 to 1993. It was an honour serving on the two LPD's of the Royal Navy. I went for an interview with the RFA' in 2002 and seen both ships tied up in the basin, very sad. Brought a tear to an old mans eye seeing them being cut into scrap. Lots of happy memories. Farewell girls gone but never forgotten!

I served in FEARLESS on her second commission , as Harold Wilson’s private yatch for his talks with Smith . The lads in 7 mess where good lads to sail with. Terribly sad to see any ship die especially one you sailed in

I served on HMS Intrepid (sickbay) between ?Apr80 - Aug81 and it was one of the high points of my 17yrs in the RN. I don't know which is sadder, watching this video or the ones showing the ghostly remains of RNH Haslar where I served for about 15 yrs. As the poet said - "Time & tide wait for no man".

Did 2 years on Intrepid mid 80’s. Did all the normal crap with the DTS. I was a Comms Yeoman and succeeded in teaching all the buntings semaphore. This proved entertaining during RAS(P) Light Jackstay, when they would be all up “Shooting the breeze”, with the buntings on the Glamorgan.

I spent many happy weeks on Intrepid sailing to and from Australia back '68. On our way to berthing at Brisbane we sailed through 'The Great Barrier Reef' which was absolutely magical. A trip of a lifetime which will never be forgotten. It's a pity these iconic vessels have to end up being recycled into goodnes knows what.

I worked on Intrepid in the early 90’s watching over a test of the replacement crane fitted to her starboard stern quarter while she was in Pompey, I was made very welcome - until it went wrong of course! Happy days and sad to see her go.

Remember them well as they frequently stopped at Gibraltar.Sad to see them being cut up for scrap, although ships are nothing without a good crew,as i am sure both ships had. Salute from Gibraltar,to past and present service personnel.

I was on Intrepid in 91 when we met Fearless off Portland I think. We took Intrepid into PByO the same year so it must have been the last time they were both at sea together (in working order). I left Intrepid and joined Fearless the same day. Bloody good ships, work hard, play hard!

Was on the Fearless in 91, yeah think the ships met up at sea off Portland and lots of photos were taken as they knew it would be the last time they would be operational. Fearless was falling to bits by then.

The UK has got 3 similar vessels serving now. RFA Cardigan Bay, Mounts Bay and Lyme Bay. They are larger and have more capabilities than the Fearless and Intrepid .

Yes, until recently, Intrepid and Fearless were resting in Portsmouth. Fearless was towed to Belgium, for destruction. Intrepid? Don`t know. Sorry. Magic design, that huge superstructure, and the straight aft.
