HMS Ark Royal (R09) in the Mediterranean in 1971 also featured HMS Galatea (F18) and RFA Olna (A123)

HMS Ark Royal proceeds to the Mediterranean where she will be joined by HMS Galatea.
Simulated combat sequence with Phantom, Buccaneer and Fairey Gannet AEW scramble.
A Sea King helicopter lowers a probe into the sea, HMS Galatea receives instructions to radar sweep.
A Wasp flies between two ships, guns fire. Reference to "Russian destroyer" off port bow. Planes return. Scenes of Ark Royal refuelling and replenishment at sea; oiler Altair comes alongside, as does RFA Lyness. Three ships seen linked together. Galley scenes in Ark Royal as supplies are stored. Sunset: night flight of Phantoms takes off. The next day: Ark Royal heads into Naples harbour for visit, escort of small craft an finally dropping anchor.

    Three miles of sausages?? Surely not. But then I worked it out. That's just one sausage a day for each of the crew for just 19 days.

    Excellent, Very many thanks for all these new films. I was on the Odin....(thanks for the odin film ) but i was also on HMS Herald in 1978 doing a survey in Ghana NW Africa. Whilst there we were filmed for a RN Survey film....hoping this comes up sometime amongst your "new" films .....Cheers Mike Ilett ( BOB / SKIPPY )

    @@Hants_PrintsRussian submarines never followed HMS Ark Royal, Eagle or Hermes because they were too small and insignificant. They were after bigger game: the American supercarriers.

    I notice @4:47 that the Gannet's strop goes into the water and is not retained like the Phantom and Buccaneer ones. Also, I wonder if this was the cruise when Ark Royal collided with a Soviet ship? @14:05 you see Raymond Lygo who was her captain from 1969-71.
