Hmmmm....Do swirls appear under PPF??? Is Paint Correction Necessary?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Let's see if you can see the difference. I do a quick paint correction on only one portion of the A-Pillar, apply PPF over top, and try to see if you can notice the difference. Do the swirl marks peek through? Does polished paint look better under PPF?
The answer is YES!!!!!!!!
I've always had the belief that if you do something, do it properly. At my shop, we make the effort to give every installation 100% of our best effort, doesn't matter if its a Tercel or a Rolls Royce (not knocking Tercels... those cars ROCK). This video just goes to show what an important step it is to correct the paint prior to PPF application. The final quality will have superior clarity, depth and shine.
Paint Correction Tools used:
Polisher: Rupes LHR75E
Polishing Pad: HexLogic White Pad
Polish: Sonax Perfect Finish
Film Used: STEK DynoShield

I often wondered how much of a difference it would make if no paint correction was performed opposed to proper correction. You answered that question.... Nice job.

Eh. I would bet that it doesn’t matter once cured. The moisture trapped in the scratches has to be what we are seeing in the video.

@@TheBooklas I'm with you on that. Once it's all aired out, unnoticeable. You can hide some pretty extreme paint defects with PPF.

Great video! It’s unreal how easy piano black paint swirls up. Up selling A/B Pillar protection is a must!

Looks like a lot of the scratches / swirls on the piano black have indeed been hidden by the PPF; if I have a new, white car with much less visible swirls - can I get away with not paint correcting before applying PPF? (full frontal, hood, bumper, etc.) Seems like piano black is the "hardest mode".

Did you get trained to learn PPF? I’m from Chicago and no local places offer training without requiring you to buy solely from that distributor

Can you please post a photo once it’s cured. I’m in the camp of polishing isn’t required in most cases. We would’ve done a quick polish on that pillar. But probably not the paint.

I'll try to on another piece, this was a customers car, and I did this video just to see/demonstrate if there is a difference. After the video was finished, I polished the whole A Pillar then wrapped it properly.

Hi, Is it advisable to wash the car again after doing full paint correction before installing the ppf?

does the PPF get sticky/tacky really quickly on a freshly polished surface?

It does have a better bite. But it all comes down to your solution, if you rinse out all the slip with a warm tack solution, it will stick down very well, and relatively quickly.

@@ThePPFChannel thanks for the reply. recently started doing PPF and have tried polish surface vs non-polished. the polished side was VERY quick to tack. im guessing it would be a good idea to add more soap to the slip solution? for a polished surface

Based on this a brand new car that will get ppf'd wouldn't need paint correction. Those swirls were terrible and barely noticeable on video
