This solo is tied for first in my book of greatest solos. The other solo from Comfortably Numb is what it’s tied with. Unbelievable emotion just poured out onto tape from David Gilmour on this song.

Guillaume, you’re on spot. You can have the gear, pedals, amps, mics, notes/tab but if you cannot phrase or understand the technical details behind the solo it does not sound similar at all. Gilmour is not the fastest shredder but definietly one of the most melodic soloist ever. His understanding of harmonies is outstanding. Thank you Guillaume for the video! ❤️

I'm not sure where to put my request in, so I'll try here. Two I see aren't listed are Mr. Blackmore and the criminally underrated Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues. Yes....The Moody Blues!!! The song I really loved by him is "When You Wake Up" from the Justin Hayward/John Lodge Blue Jays album, especially the outro solo. He's known for using a 1963 ES335 and occasionally a 1959 ES345 through AC30's in the studio and Hiwatt's or Marshall Majors live

Guillaume, nice video. Totally agree with you (and Dan at TPS when he did the Brick pt2 solo) about phrasing. One suggestion: probablt worth dropping the whammy bar back into the strat for this one for the vibrato (I’m guilty or rarely using mine as well). Makes a difference along with the phrasing I think. Pedal-wise, I usually try a fuzz > overdrive (to smooth it off) > a touch of chorus or flanger before delay and verb for an approximate DG sound.

I think people have been chasing the tone of this solo for years, they overthink it, just get in the ballpark, there’s tons of pedals that will do it,people do the same with Jimmy Page,he doesn’t even remember what he used.lol Practice at being a better player , that will get you there, tone is in the players hands ,fingertips , touch , bends, it’s your energy⚡️be safe from Boston
