    Thanks so much for paying attention to that Mad Mac, people always seem to ignore this fact, even though anyone with some studio experience can back this up. A produced guitar tone can be very different than the original guitar rig's tone. Cheers! //Kris

    My favourite guitarist of all time. Saw Roger Waters live once, he played the entire Dark Side of the moon, the guitar player in his band was amazing, a really good musician...but wasn't David. Dont' know why or how, but Gilmour you can recognize him the second he plays a note.

    I saw Pink Floyd in concert twice. There was no mistaking who was playing guitar. I listen to Waters live stuff and go, "That sounds like Pink Floyd but the guitar is wrong. Oh, because it isn't Gilmore." Waters was a brilliant song writer but I don't think PF would have been as great with someone else on guitar.

    Thanks for the show! Useful info to try those legendary Gilmour sounds. I tried both examples some years ago with Amplitube and DAW using my strat and PRS. I tried to find the balance between gain/overdrive/distortion and mid range clarity and the amount of reverb. Oh, it was time consuming. Not only effects but also post/mixing production affect on the sound, not to mention phrasing, bending tech, picking etc. the guitar itself. I learned that there is only one David Gilmour.

    I’m obsessed with Comfortably Numb and the closest I’ve gotten has been a strat with CS69 pickups > tc electronic cinders > proco rat > stereo electric mistress (little chorus only, no flanger) > MXR carbon copy > JTM45 with 2 greenbacks. Some reverb added in garage band

  • @bradleybeauchamp5582
    @bradleybeauchamp55823 жыл бұрын

    Putting vibrato on that first bend of Comfortably Numb like what Gilmour does every time makes it sound so much better than holding it there like your doing.

  • @mrenard72

    I agree that Comfortably Numb doesn't sound like a fuzz. I think the volume he played at and the articulation added by the chorus/Leslie helped. You guys sounded very close!

  • @stanislavmigra

    Have you tried to take a piece of the original recordings, where only the guitar is in, build an impulse response with the differences of your sound to the original one and apply this IR at the end? I have done some experiments with this technic and it seems not to be bad. But i would be interested on your results

  • @cheenu711

    he actually had coloursound power boost after his ram's head. He basically used the boost as eq and to add the mid-range to muff' sound. You can get similar results but then again it's very diff for diff types of pedals and amps. In my case, a Blackstar with ISF panned to the British side and big muff into a tube screamer does the job. It's not perfect but it somewhat gets to that ballpark. You can make many different setups work tbh but you just have to understand the dynamics of the actual tone. Gilmour was a master obviously.

    Yes studio tricks make it difficult to match the tone, but unlike the "we're not touring anymore" Beatles, Floyd did tour around and their live tone might be a good starting point to look at.

    I guess the reason why the Marshall SV20 couldn’t quite deliver the super midsy sound with the ramshead is because the EQ is just way less powerfull the one of the Hiwatt. I happen to have one, as you know Kris, and the EQ can shape the sound very intensely. Probably also the thing with the post production is very true though.

  • @dragonsquare2802

    @dragonsquare2802

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ok.. I just tried to recreate it really quickly with the ramshead in the helix (sustain almost at 0) and the Hiwatt normal channel. I can get it in the ballpark when I crank the mids and lower the treble on the Hiwatt a bit. What I found a lot more important is the choice of the speaker though! With greenback, v30 and such it is just too bright and not midsy enough. I don’t have the possibility to test the fanes that are used in Hiwatt cabs but the Lead 80 by celestion made anpretty great job bringing me a lot closer to the original recording. However, you guys did an awesome job recreating the sound, regardless what gear you used. I guess it’s a lot easier to do when the actual gear that was used is at hand, which makes your achievement even more noteworthy. Well done!
