Hit by a STORM! 😮
It is not on all hikes you have beautiful weather and perfect conditions, sometimes it’s just the opposite and for this hike, we knew it in advance and was prepared for it! For my latest hike in Jämtland/Sweden during the storm called HANS i did three important changes i will talk about during this episode and tell you after a couple of days how they worked out... let’s hope I did well thought out and clever choices right 😄
I will also follow up this episode with an EXTREME hike episode withing a week or two and go into more details. But during this episode I will answer the most important question... did my gear work as planned and did it manage these harsh conditions.
The hike we did was up in north of Sweden, Jämtlandsfjällen and since the route changed due to bad trail and weather conditions this was what we ended up with:
Start: STF Storulvån - STF Gåsenstugurna - STF Helags Fjällstation - 2 km south towards Helagssjön - STF Helags Fjällstation - STF Sylarnas Fjällstation - End at STF Storulvån. (98,37 km or 61,3 miles)
For the route in GPX format and for the original rout, just ask and I can arrange it.
Thanks for watching and PLEASE support this channel by subscribing and 👉LEAVING A "SUPER THANKS"! That helps this channel going forward and will be spent on gear for reviews!

Thank you for sharing. 🤗
Enjoyed the video & the music chosen was positive, even with weather. Water crossings, wind & rain is a challenge to keep warm & dry. Well done!

Glad to hear you’re enjoying my vids and it bringing back some nice memories 😀👍🏻
Looks a great trip. Stunning scenery. It says in the video that you had 25 m/s (50 mph) wind speeds, that sounds pretty powerful. How did the middus 1 fare and how are you experiencing it? I’m about to buy my next shelter and this looks great so would appreciate your feedback on it so far. Thank you
Great video! These types of videos are my favorite; seeing new hiking trails in other parts of the world and I always enjoy gear talk!

Great video. I will be hiking the same area, but on the norwegian side in 14 days. Your video was a great "warm-up". Thanks👍

Berghaus Paclites are the best. They're the first overtrousers I've been able to get and off without falling over, and when they're on I'm hardly aware of them. Not the lightest, but still properly lightweight.

He pretty much told ME, it leaks through the zipper. That’s a Deal Breaker for me.
@roberthammenrudh
11 ай бұрын
@@markcummings6856 all “waterproof” zippers do leak sooner or later, haven’t own one piece of gear not failed me on that and the reason I go for half zips and not full zip rain jackets! The main reason for leakage is the lack of a protective layer of fabric on the outside of the zipper, I think and something most light weight jacket lacks, unfortunately! The phantom is a great piece of gear but there is room for improvements.

@@markcummings6856 yeah. I really like the idea of it and was hoping it worked. But I don’t see how the material etc would stand up to a loaded pack, no matter how ultralight you are. And if the zipper leaks then it’s a another potential fail point. It’s marketed as an ultralight piece of running kit so maybe that’s its limit?
how does the bonfus do? you have to got way more testing in now ;D im so curious! also, i would love to see where you are in the tent, and put some more gear at the head and footend, to see how much room you have? greetings! great vids!

Hi 👋🏻, love this tent but the inner needs some adjustments (added clips) to stay in place but in general it’s great. Easy to pitch, enormous vestibules and good ventilation for the hot days, and pitched low for the windy ones. I don’t have much gear inside actually, on top I have my puffy and puffy pants and down at the bottom my clothes I hike in. The electronics are beside me along with the ditty bag. On the outside (in the vestibules) I have my pack, shoes and food pod. Enough space for cooking and stretching your legs when sitting up. 🤷🏼♂️ what more can one ask for… the most annoying thing is off course the sloping backside and that when sitting up you easily rub your head against it, but that’s the problem on all tipis. Glad you like my content… and for more info in the tent, take a look at my review 🙂.

@@roberthammenrudh yeah saw the review, and seen that you place your stuff outside the tent, i dont mind a few items outside, but in general i have a few items in my tent thats the way i like it, easy to acces them, and grab something! ps; thanks for the info and fast reply!
It's always good to be prepared. Which tent did you chose?
@roberthammenrudh

Yea it absolutely is… and It’s my “new for this year” Bonfus Middus 1p”. A DCF tipi style one person tent, like MLD solomidXL.
How do you find having a 1p tent in so many rainy days? Not a pain have to deal with wet clothes / gear in such a small tent?
@roberthammenrudh
11 ай бұрын
I was a bit sceptical at first 😄 but it worked out fine and since it’s pretty high tent I can sit up in my knees packing up my stuff so worked much better than expected, but sure… it’s easier in a 2p tent for sure!!
Hey, do you ever wish you had the Middus 2p instead of the 1p, as a 1 man tent? Or do you feel the space is good enough, and that the benefit of having smaller footprint/easier to pitch is too much of an advantage obver the 2p? In my case, the little bit of extra weight for the 2p Middus don't matter to me at all, and so it will only come down to practicality... I live out in tents in Norway area atleast 100 days a year, so I need to have somewhat of a comfort, but honestly it does seem like the 1p gives you good enough room in the vestibule stash gear and cook... Looks like it is super good against the weather from this video as well, concidering you are not suffering from condense or rain slipping in... - What do you think? Middus 1p vs 2p as a solo traveler in Norway area? Subbed!

Hi 👋🏻, and welcome to the channel! 🙏🏻 this is a good question, I believe it comes down to personal preference off course. A classic weight vs space scenario but in this case… not to big weight penalty here so choosing a 2p sounds reasonable. The smaller footprint is only interesting I would say if hiking in the forest where big spaces to put your tent is difficult to find, for mountain hiking, over the tree line this is most of the time no issue. If spending 100 night/year it’s a no brainer for me, 2p it is. For the space inside…. For the comfort it gives. 1p is nice to have for 1 - 2 week adventures, walking long distances …when wanting to go as light as possible. 🤷🏼♂️ //R

Enjoyed the video very much but how do you keep your feet dry for river crossings? Or do just put up with wet feet?
@roberthammenrudh

Glad you like the episode, don’t make much hiking videos so it’s a bit of trial and error to see what people like 🤷🏼♂️😄 had also a bit of a problem with the sound due to wet and windy conditions! Need some new gear to cope with that Anyways… the answer is yes, I don’t mind having wet feet and they dry pretty quick if it’s not raining and your feet stay warm so no problem. It’s something I truly do recommend trying out, it’s a real game changer for many when converted to trailrunners. (Without goretex)
Interesting! How did the Tarptent DR do?
@roberthammenrudh
11 ай бұрын
Hi 👋🏻 it did well most of the time but the vestibules was pushed in quite a lot during the worst night resulting in a transfer of water/moisture between the outer and inner and ending up with some water in the inner if I remember his explanation correctly, anyway he needed to wipe the floor a bit inside the tent and since he didn’t have a rag or sort with him he used his socks 😄 So, very important how you pitch and for the vestibules not facing the wind. Otherwise, no problem. (All guy lines attached and used)

Vad har du med dig för mat på en lång tur och vad räknar du med att en dags mat/snacks väger?
@roberthammenrudh
