This game was an insanely large part of my childhood. Me and my dad would make jokes about each other saying the other would need a wargod calling to do basic things irl. "You need a wargod calling to open a door" just silly things. If i would have known id be losing my dad this year, I would have definitely tried to play thru this game with him one more time. I had the perfect method, you take your controller with both hands and put the button you intend to rapidly press on the tip of your nose lightly and then flex your arms extremely tightly to rapidly shake the controller pressing the button on your nose as fast as possible, I usually can reach the 268% on spell items.

Great video, I'm happy someone was able to make a video showcasing all the effort and love that the Legend of Dragoon community put into this wonderful speedrun. Watching this game be brought down to sub 10 hours was a hell of a journey that I loved witnessing and participating in.

7:23 Fun fact. That item is bugged in german. Once using that item, it asks you to pick a character to use it on, and once used, it crashes your game. Iirc, the game thinks it's either an hp or mp recovery item. sonce, it has a similar name, then either of those healing items, but I can't remember what it was. So if any germans eanna run that game, don't do it in deutsch.

I immediately clicked when I saw the notification as legend of dragoon is one of my all time favorites, then you said you did another video on it before and I have to go watch it now 😒 it wouldn't feel right. I'll be back

This video is so cool. I love this game. One of my favorites of all time. When I was a kid I remember seeing people posting on forums and making guides about challenge runs. I remember one in particular was beating the game in 24 hours with no dragoons and thinking that it was physically impossible haha. All of my JRPG playthroughs back then were like 80-100+

Considering how lengthy this game is, it's amazing its community pushed the record below ten hours and keep optimizing it. What a feat, thanks Doc ✌🏼

@@undyingsoul3949 My suggestion: Save before and first defeat the last boss, then start working on the side content afterwards. You'll get the full experience with the story and won't be OP for the final boss the first time around.

Turbo for mashing is definitely appreciated. Glad they allowed it for this game.

The menu theme and Boss Battle 3 music are funky as heck.

Props for including Deathtome. Severely underrated runner and all around good guy!

Hearing SDA in the past tense makes me feel old and sad

i remember the first time i beat this game, i was wayyyyy underleveled. i did not know the mechanics to this extent and i was so weak going into the last boss that that fight took two hours, and it was essentially a 1v1 verus dart and melbu. gotta be one of the more memorable boss fights for me for that reason alone.

my first fight with the Divine dragon was similar. 1v1 dart guarding most turns and poking when safe. took over an hour and it was supper time, mom wasn't pleased.

Another absolute banger from the Doctor! Glad to see a game I've spent quite a few runs on making it into the series!

Man I loved this game growing up. Any combat system that engages the player in small ways (Super Mario RPG, Sea of Stars, LoD) makes the game infinitely more playable to me.

mein gott look at that handsome dude mash that button. 250% is impressive, I had to actively practice for like an hour to get above 220.

dude i was hitting 268% on multi items when it first came out. i always knew that i had a unique tapping style, it doesn't mean much today but it definitely gave me an edge back in the day when you had a mash a button as quickly as possible

Timing is best skill check I personally hate "mash until your fingers fail you" in games When there's only a small time window it kinda balances out. The old Dragon Ball games? Now you probably understand me! XD

The acceptance of turbo controller as the norm sounds godsent in a 10 hour RPG speedrun full of mashable textboxes where the means of damaging your enemies is either button mashing or additions which is basically a rhythm game

ok i' share the tech, put a thumb on each half of the X button, shake the controller from left to right causing your two thumbs to mash the X button as quickly as possible. this ALWAYS gets me a 268% on multis. if i use one thumb i get like 255% consistently, but i need the second thumb to push it to the limit.

Always fun when i recognize a name from ouraide of speedrunning. Shout out to Raelcun for his starcraft casting.

Holy crap it's my most favorite ps1 games in my lifetime along with my final fantasy 7. I spent 211 hours on this game. I hope it gets a remaster like Square Enix did them (such as Star Ocean TSS R and Final Fantasy VII).

Criminaly underated game

ya switching out meru for miranda was a really good movie, i don't understand why being stuck on meru was such a thing anyways as she is too weak for her speed to mean much. shana/miranda on the otherhand really pump the numbers out with attack items

man how i miss this game, found in flea market, got for 7 bucks at 10? i think, 34 now. loaned to my uncle, (all 4 disks) i finally received it back months later. only 2 disks were there. (THE LAST TWO) needless to say. never finished the game. did give a go at emulation, but nothing could compare to what this game was in my childhood. Truly wished they would remaster this in true HD fashion. I absolutely hate turn based games aside from this, the OG FF7, and BG3.

My favorite game of all time. I hate how late this game came out in the PS1 lifecycle. It could have been a franchise similar to Final Fantasy. I’ve replayed it from time to time when I had my ps4. I spent many hours on this game. I hope it gets a remake or a new game similar to how FF7 remake was.

Is it just me or the background music's volume too low? It's nice having the names of the songs appear during the video, but I honestly couldn't recognize anything because their volume is too low (I'm using headphones, btw). Other than that, nice and informative video! 😆

19:25 I did not quite get this: so you remove the FF7 disc during the PS1 logo screen, then place a LoD disc, and this will result in fast disc speed for LoD, without the potential for a softlock?

1. Power on your slim Playstation 2 2. Press Triangle twice (select Fast on Disc speed) 3. Insert any PS1 game that works with Fast disc speed (99.9% of games work). 4. Open disc tray once you see Playstation logo 5. Insert The Legend of Dragoon disc and enjoy full speed on any Slim console. Info : If you own any PS2 slim with model number 77000 (or lower) the steps above are NOT necessary. Basically only the new consoles block Fast disc speed.

There are probably more possibilities out there. Blackdeathdoom bought a used memory card with those saves (copied to another memory card) and noticed it worked. The previous solution was get a brand new memory card never used, but that was not sustainable. Honestly, could have been other game saves on that memory card, doesn't have to specifically be those but those are indeed working (have not tried many other saves yet). Once you deleted those save files the memory card act as a new memory card; which was necessary for that specific category.

That part is not even mysterious. You need a brand new memory card (or one that never played Dragoon before go run the category. Removing the saves aren't a necessity just makes saving faster. You just needed to find a way to make the memory card not remember any Dragoon save ever being there. Overwriting enough times until it forgets. I think you just need 1 or 2 saves from another game and delete them for it to work. So this is not optimal at all, but the first and only reliable way found. Nonody tried improving it since to find easier method or different ways. If it works it works.@@ericmcmanus5179

Without disc swapping 75000 and 77000 models, but all slim models are able to play the game fast if you swap the disc at Playstation logo. Which is something discovered about 2 years ago. Before you kinda had to have a specific slim model (75k/77k).

Sooooo only using items to attack instead of using god modes? Might as well call this the Ten Ten speedrun 😅

My last playthrough, including all the optional stuff, went over 200 hours (Melbu Frahma included). I thought this was the longest game ever, but with Final Fantasy X, I'm far over 200 hours past the first kissing scene alone (still blind). Boy... But no Game Over yet. Makes me want to continue even more.

The video is still up on my channel, but not the stream video (which had proof of me mashing and playing without a turbo controller). In other words webcam video is deleted, but isn't a requirement for the run to be legit anyway. Just extra proof for those who doubt the authenticity.

I think TAS should be the standard now.

They should add a category on speedrun called "Play the credits video on youtube" so people that don't want to play the game can trigger the credits by a less convoluted sequence of inputs and stop their timers when the video starts playing. They should add a consoleless, controllerless, handless and focusless restrictions so we know it is hard.

speedrun's are a joke, as it's not speedruns, it's exploit runs.

My brother and I were speed running this and other jrpgs in the early 00's. We didn't have Internet and it was just a competition between us. My best time was ~18 hours.
