    @@Practitioner_of_Diogenes I agree with the issue of church politics. When I was young, my church (Lutheran) brought in a second pastor to help out the first one before he retired. One issue going on at the time was that many, if not most, of the younger generations were leaving the church when they grew up. Most were still Christian, but they either left for other churches of become nondenominational. This had the effect that the church was shrinking to a worrying degree. The new pastor had a simple suggestion of adding modern hymns to the services in an attempt to attract younger Christians or keep some of the younger members from leaving. No big deal, right? Let me tell you, that did not go over well with some of the older members. Apparently, there was a lot of arguing amongst the elders on this topic that went on for far too long. In the end, the new pastor won out and they now have modern hymns mixed in with the more traditional ones.

    Covering Islam things would require a lot of context and is not really as simple and funny because Europe had a monopoly on idiocy at the time and idiocy is what makes it funny. It makes the whole subject less accessible than christian shenanigans which were mostly just a bunch of supposedly drunk Christians being stupid and stubborn while trying to rationalize it with the dumbest circular "logic" possible. Every religion had weird things happen and schisms at one point but with Christianity it was remarkably slapstick horror comedy

    To put it simply, Sunni and Shia differ over who should lead the Muslims. Sunnis believe anyone can lead and Shias believe the leader should be descended from the Prophet. This come from a Hadith where the Prophet said to look to his tradition and his family for guidance. Shias focused on that last part and interpreted is meaning only a descendent could legitimately lead the Muslims. This is the fundamental difference between the two groups but they have been separated for so many years that politics between them are extremely complicated. There are so many differing interpretations because they have been diverged for so long and often bad blood exists between the 2 groups based on historical conflicts that have nothing to do with religious disagreements. But, with all due respect to Blue, I don't think he should make a video about it. This topic requires a great knowledge of Islamic history, context, and theology. I don't think anyone could do it justice unless they really, and I mean really, do their research into Islam. And that's hard because most people (including many Muslims) don't have any understanding of Islamic theology and political science, which you need to properly explain this topic. To do it justice you need not just a perfect understanding of the facts, but also the atmosphere. And the facts themselves are difficult to acquire as leading historians, scholars, philosophers (both past and present) are mostly from Africa, the Middle-East, or Central Asia (aka Iran to India) and also because Islam has a mostly oral, not written tradition. So basically, it's unlikely you will get good information on American websites unless you know exactly where to look. Like reading a classically trained European's historical analysis of Islamic politics is not going to fly. You would need an actual Muslim scholar's historical analysis who was trained and educated is Islamic history and theology and get some primary sources which would have been written by a historical Muslim scholar. I mean, it's possible just extremely difficult. And the many, many misunderstanding and miseducation of the average American/European will only add to the difficulties of constructing such a video. Overly Sarcastic Productions has a huge following and can influence a lot of people. They they should only make such a video if they can guarantee they can do it right. ;-)

    7:45 While the council of Trent did place an emphasis on individual faith, it also affirmed the Papacy, the clergy, and church tradition as sources of authority. The central tension between Protestantism and Catholicism is not just about individual faith vs. rituals, but about authority. Protestants hold the Bible as the ultimate authority over life and faith, while Catholics hold the church as ultimate interpreter of the Bible (thus making it their ultimate de-facto authority).

    @erni muja, You claim to keep giving evidence... AND no. No, you did not. What you did was try to contextualize a WWI treatise with WWII's conclusion. The problem with that is that WWII is WWII, all of which happened as a consequence of the treatise from WWI... Time can't be magically reversed as if everyone KNEW what became of it before it could happen... Sure, the Treaty of Versailles had its pettiness, and a LOT of that was from French influence... AND it's worth pointing out that there were sympathizers who "turned a blind eye" when Germany started getting ambitious, probably because there was some reluctance to engage with this French Pettiness in that treatise... BUT... no one really foresaw what Germany was going to become. There was an uprising of the "everyman hero" profile in Germany, and Nazism was National Socialism... not surprising at the time, with nobility in decline and the feudal system all but a ghost of a memory... But you have to start giving evidence from BEFORE WWI to determine where the Treaty of Versailles was any better or worse than others of the time. THAT is how history works. You can't just jump on Post WWII reformations and say "See here! This is how we write treaties. That piece of sh*t from Versailles was clearly a travesty and everyone knew it." because no... They didn't. At Versailles, they KNEW Germany had taken the opportunity of chaos to rise up as a dominant political force. Even that the whole of WWI wasn't even about Germany, nor was Germany at the crux of the conflict, they asserted military power to draw out the conflict into such an attrition as to cost the entire world more horribly than necessary. Wilhelm was banished entirely, and more or less, stripped of any power... and a "more constructive" treatise at the time might've been then to see to it, HE rather than Germany as a whole, suffered all the consequences... BUT that simply wasn't the case. However we can argue the matter today, though. It's 20/20 Hindsight... something the folks involved intimately in Versailles at the time didn't have. The U.S. even pushed desperately for the League of Nations, and it held together shortly, but had absolutely NO teeth or substance to it... SO we could just as easily blame that failure in diplomacy as the root cause of WWII... AND why not? It's certainly popular to BLAME America for all the world's problems today, isn't it? ...So on behalf of Cegesh, either start citation on something earlier than WWI for a context of "whatever counts as an appropriate treatise of conquest"... on which we can then found our basis for discussion of the Treaty of Versailles, or find something more constructive to do with your time... like actually bothering to STUDY this history you seem to have a proclivity to disjoint and unjustly dismember. ;o)

  • @gnarthdarkanen7464

    @gnarthdarkanen7464

    5 жыл бұрын

    @erni muja Okay... first, not a big fan of France... so no. I''ve not offered them a defense. However, it's worth pointing out that once the bullets stop flying over your head and the shrapnel clears a bit... It's not difficult to see EVEN the biggest wartime conflict in history as simply the biggest mess ever made... and move right on. That's an unfortunate short-sighted nature of humans... By and large we don't just turn a corner and learn something... that's a sad but very real fact. Had WWI been truly THE war, there would have been plenty of push-back on France before the treaty was ever subject to ratification... Sure, France was in the bad habit of antiquated thinking... They had been pushed into that since Napoleon... SO there's not JUST the French being petty again, argument for you to be so sure of either... AND for the record, no, Versailles did NOT put the Nazis in power. There was quite a bit more to it than that... It's convoluted and more than a bit psychotic, BUT if it was all about Versailles, those would've been millions of French in the ovens, rather than jews and gypsies...etc... Versailles was simply one more list, along with a litany of others, that made Nazism more attractive... AND there's more than a little historic proof (way before WWI, too) that oppression and suppression do not function well with conquered peoples either. Look, there are ALWAYS some who foreshadow the oncoming next great catastrophy. AND there are ALWAYS those who dislike how "the powers that be" are doing things. Sorry to point this out, but there's always contention in society and that includes the very top ranks of diplomats who decided the dubious nuances and lines in the sand for generations to come... BUT that's also the problem with prophets. You just can't tell if they're credible until AFTER the prophecies are proven. WWII was primarily made possible by those who sought to put Hitler into power. AND that was more than just Hitler himself. He was as much coached into perceiving himself the messiah of the Arian Race... and the savior of Germany, as he actually had the demented ideal to rise in power simply to watch the world devour itself... The Industrial Revolution caused BOTH great wars of the twentieth century, and bleeding the inkwell dry about the details isn't going to change how very much industry and industrialism contributed not only to population booms like humans have never seen before... but to their conflicts over resources like we've never EVER consumed before. Looking forward. it's worth pointing out that treaties or no treaties, if we don't start getting a handle on that consumption at industrial rates... there's going to be a lot worse than WWII to worry about... even if we CAN manage to stem the real violent threats around it. AND in spite of Hindsight being 20/20, part of the ever spiraling fiasco they call "middle eastern politics"... the apparent height of diplomacy is still all about impoverishing millions. SO maybe France isn't the only "bass ackwards country" operating, either. There's still a lot of short-sighted cunts running around. ;o)

    @erni muja 1. I was NEVER arguing or trying to "talk over" you... If all you can see is an argument, I recommend a couple days OFF THE INTERNET, because you're starting to lose touch with reality... The fact is my very first instinct to respond to your earlier post was "Now was that so fucking difficult?" ...only about a half a paragraph in, I deleted it as "a tad too abrasive" in my judgment. Now I'm rethinking that judgment. 2. No... I'm pointing out where you seem to be hell bent to derail your original intentions... If all you can see is disagreement and some imposition of my opinion on yourself... See #1 up there for my remedy of the day for you. 3. I have NOT BEGUN to get patronizing. It's not patronizing to point out where details seem to be overtly missing, and it certainly SHOULD NOT be considered patronizing to point out perhaps better angles or approaches and supportive reasons WHY they're better angles or approaches with HISTORICAL AND RELEVANT information... like facts. (you do remember what those are. Right?) 4. You're certainly welcome. I don't know that you even know someone who can help... BUT it's worth the figurative stab in the dark to get anyone with an interest to consider those ramifications. 5. Assumed? The closest to that is what I might attempt to "tentatively discern" from your typing habits... Other than English potentially not being your first language (though it's worth admitting most of us "native English speakers" tend toward chewing the language hap-hazardly and letting it dribble out rather than actually SPEAK any of it)... I could (easily from this interaction) PRESUME that you are about 16 - 19 and fancy yourself somewhat dutifully educated, having read a few more books than required in school... and that somehow makes you a grand authority... Either equivalent to or superior of anyone else online. I hope you actually already knew most everything I cited, the point of those citations was to either alert to you that I'm aware of more than the prime focal point of the earlier argument, so you could elaborate on such things as you wish with some relatively minimal effort... say... a title of premise and relevant years or conflict as popularly known, to let me review when or wherever is convenient... I try, though sometimes the "popular terms" change from one place to another. Perhaps, my reasoning in citing those various points and nuances was simply in the deed of sharing facts as I thought relevant... such that you might see a hole or a missing piece, and bring that to attention in support of some part of the conversation you wished to impart... as intellectuals are often wont to do... In such activities, it's often easiest on both parties to start out relatively simply, and build from that earlier formative work... not to patronize, but to begin at the beginning, and continue until such a construct reaches past someone's understanding or memorized collection of historical narratives... where-upon we can narrow to the particular new focus, and create our new argumentations, even regarding whether this new spot in history is or isn't useful and relevant... This kind of practice also has the side benefit of honing BOTH our collections of argumentational skillsets, adding to vocabulary as well as the dubiously related collaborative evidence stockpiled... BUT you want to call me out for patronizing... because apparently, all anyone online can do is blindly agree YOU are the greatest arguer of all keyboard warriors... OR blatantly argue in such patronizing intonation, even though there isn't so much as a tonal notation suitable for type-face. I'd pay good money for some way my keyboard would short-cut me to a symphonic composer... that music notation crap is HARD AS FUCK! (and I have no relative talent in the skills... barely playing a didgeridoo, myself) SO see (once again) my original advice way back there at #1, because you "sound a bit stressed out" my friend. ;o)

Lost that, and once he dragged himself back to Sweden, decided to go to war in Norway, then died. Gustavus Adolphus died at Lützen; cause he got lost and rode into the enemy army (by himself, not as part pf the cavalry charge he was supposed to be in). During the 30 Year's War. But they were both kings that ascended the throne as teens, inheriting several wars from their predecessors, and died in wars. So there is a certain resemblance there.

    Keep in mind how deeply intertwined the church and politics were at the time, just as Blue said. Political power is one of those things that inevitably taints a soul, I think. Power corrupts goes the saying, and for good reason. Tying in eternal fates on top is just recipe for disaster. It's why I believe, as a Christian, we'd have much less infighting if we 1) always gave up political gain or power. "Not by might (military) nor by power (political influence) but by my Spirit." And 2) took more to heart Jesus' teaching to the 12 about other disciples not of their little clique but still casting out demons in Christ's name: "if they are not against us they are for us." It seems most of Christian history is the opposite that we're all too familiar with: if you're not for us you're against us.

The Jewish authorities wanted to use his death as a way to hold onto their own authority in the Jewish faith and community. And Christ says I defy Rome, the Sanhedrin, and death itself. What’s noteworthy about the work is how it is illuminated. Bernini designed a lightbox, a chimney skylight that directed sunlight down upon the statue, reflecting against the metallic rays seen in the background. I’ve heard that when viewed in person the lighting effect in the dark chapel is just like a heavenly beam shining upon.

    @@herodotus945 Yeah on average, but most of them are nearly as secular as the protestants. Rarely will you find any Christians in Europe that are "hard core believers". And the fact that there are more Catholics in Europe than there were 20 years ago, doesn't tell they are getting more religious, just that there are more people. Most of them are just new children born in catholic families. If there were huge amount of people converting to Catholicism or countries that drive for more religious laws over secular laws, you could make that point. But secularism is the driving force in Europe now days.

    @@herodotus945 Also my point was that Hat Boi dismantled catholic churches power, not that he erased Catholicism. I don't think anyone would argue against that catholic church has almost no power over any country or peoples everyday life now days, at least compared to his time.

    As German: Italy and especially Rome is a beautiful place, great architecture, considerable prices when you take the 3 corner to food and drink approach, nice weather, nice people and a weird taste for books in German(went to a bookstore in Florence to get a book for the trip home and... found only YA Vampire romances in German...) but the pizza is delicious, the pasta pomo d'oro is delicious, the cafe is delicious and the alleys are beautiful! And the fountains!🤩 (You can tell I love Rome?)

    Hi Blue! Those protestants smashing up catholic paintings and statues also happened in the Netherlands in 1566. It’s called the ‘Beeldenstorm’ (literally translated the statue storm) and most of you images you used while describing the events are dutch images. The Beeldenstorm was also one of the caused of the Dutch revolt against the Habsburg/Spanish empire (which they were a part of until 1648). So the more you know! Funny for me to really recognize all these things you are talking about here, love your videos! (and also Red’s)

    As I heard a couple of years ago, the Saxons (i.e., the state which includes Dresden) take a lot of pride in Martin Luther, as his mission had a lot of ground in their kingdom. The Duke Elector suffered from a headache about him, wishing to never encounter him directly, ever again, and probably retreating to a castle well away from him (probably far away from Meissen, since it had the triumvirate of the cathedral, the ducal palace and the Marquis). (The friend I stayed with is a proud Saxon who put her head together with her brother to come up with a list of historical sites to go to with me, so I got to see some really good stuff thanks to her.)
