History of Timekeeping - Soft Spoken ASMR Bedtime Story

Ойын-сауық

In this episode, I tell you about the long history of timekeeping devices, from the first sundials and water clocks to mechanical clocks, quartz timers and atomic clocks. Beyond technique, we also explore how the perception and management of time are cultural phenomenons.

Your channel is the one I always come back to when I really need a good sleep. Your videos are perfect for me, interesting so my brain can’t wander too far and fall into a spiral of rumination but also relaxing and calm so I’m not hanging on every word and unable to let myself drift off. I get so excited whenever you upload a new video and always save it for a few days for when I really need some extra help falling asleep. The timestamps are so great and really give me peace of mind that it’s okay to fall asleep and theyre really helpful if I wake up in the middle of the night and want to continue from where I left off to fell back asleep. I also save your videos so that I continue to associate them with just sleep, I’ll listen to other asmrtists while studying but then find that they wrong out me to sleep because I associate them with work and your videos are too good for me to ruin them like that! The intro bring pretty much the same everyone really sends me to sleep it’s like a signal that it’s okay to rest now. Thank you for all you do and I also love the new channel!

A History of Lighting could be fantastic as the long dark Winter nights draw in they can start seeming endless in the Northern Hemisphere From the humble cave fire to the first rush light/dried plant torches the Ancients used, to the animal fat/development of more sophisticated wax candles, changing human daily routines by extending productive hours in a day, perhaps ritual lights by some religions like in Churches/or in India for Divali if applicable to discuss how controlled/conjured light is venerated and symbolises comfort and worship. Then to gas lighting street outdoor bulbs in europe (i think a German city was the first to have gas lamps before London/Paris etc) and subsequent development of indoor gas light being replaced by electric lightbulbs. Background sound at the end a candle flame flickering/fireplace. 🕯🕯 I love you French Whisperer, thank you for soothing us all to sleep. i apologise if this isn't the right place to share requests/ideas
