Fun fact, that "you can make a religion out of this, no don't" part was not just comedy. I looked it up and turns out Robespierre tried to make a religion called Cult of the Supreme Being, which obviously didn't last since he died.

@@jeffreysmith236 In the 1939 census 98.5% of the citizens off Nazi Germany identified as Christian. The nazi party also banned pagan practitioners like astrologers, witches and other pagan priests, precisely for being pagan and not good Christian. In 1936 the protestant state church was founded led by a nazi. The catholic church was effectively abolished as tends to happen in protestant countries. The largest religious affiliation in the country was a nazi led Christian church. The idea they weren't Christian is ludicrous. Hans Kerrl was a devout Christian, delusional of course as he believed the old testament was tainted by Jewish conspiracy but he firmly believed the state should cleanse Christianity from the Jewish influence and make it proper. He also supported the LDS remaining in Nazi Germany. Which given their racist views was an easy sell. This translates roughly as: Protect, O Lord, with strength of hand, Our people and our fatherland! Allow upon our leader's course To shine your mercy and your grace! Awaken in our hearts anew Our German bloodline, loyalty, and strength! And so allow us, strong and pure, To be your German youth! Does that read polytheistic pagan to you? And what Hitler said in a book he wrote ages ago and what he did when in power are entirely different things.

Nazi Germany was an overwhelmingly Christian nation with similarly overwhelmingly self-identified Christian leadership. A census in May 1939, six years into the Nazi era and after the annexation of mostly Catholic Austria and mostly Catholic Czechoslovakia into Germany, indicates that 54% of the population considered itself Protestant, 41% considered itself Catholic, 3.5% self-identified as Gottgläubig (lit. "believing in God"), and 1.5% as "atheist". Protestants were over-represented in the Nazi Party's membership and electorate, and Catholics were under-represented. while I dont particularly take sides in specific internal party politics in India, it is clear to me that Modi is rapidly pissing off a LOT of the world, who are horrified by his ignoring the true menace behind Russia's brutal invasion and civilian obliteration. But because it works for his politics to buy all that cheap oil from desperate Russia, he doesnt care who is suffering. Mohandas, Nehru, and Indira are all screaming at the universe over the irreparable damage he is doing. I'm not personally insisting that India support Ukraine, but the only truly decent thing to do for humanitarian purposes is to NOT bankroll the systematic destruciton of a completely innocent nation as far as your own is concerned.

Seems obvious to me they're reacting to the crazy way that the video presents the information, not the information itself. They seem to have pretty good comprehension of things to me, especially compared to most reactions I've watched. The people that actually don't know things they usually have very little reactions and are just glazed over.

We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity - in all this vastness - there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known. - Carl Sagan Pale Blue Dot speech Truly puts our lives into perspective and is quite humbling.

It's really important that we should stick together on this small place we inhabit. All the grand gestures of conquering and self importance doesn't matter. If you had an ambition. Itll be replaced eventually by someone else. The most you can do is have compassion and aim for the highest good with your fellow man because you've only got 1 life existing on this pale blue dot.
