I operated the original Golden Nugget as a crew manager from 1980-1982. It took seven people to smoothly operate that ride during peak hours at night. We didn't have the luxury of video monitors for different locations within the ride. We had a 4 ft. tall board painted with the three floors of the ride. It had bulbs that would light up whenever a train would trip various micro-switches inside the ride. That was how we knew to send the next train full of people. When a train would trip a micro-switch at the roof waterfall, we could send the next train up the chain. During peak hours when heavy crowds would line up to ride, we would add a sixth train (Yellow) to accommodate more patrons. This meant that the mine ride had to run constantly without stopping, until the crowds died down and the sixth train was removed from the main track, and stored. For a young man of my age at the time, it was a mechanical marvel.

Awesome Job! It was an amazing ride and I miss so much. Thank you for the reminder that the ride still kind of exists!

I loved Hunt’s Pier. I got to go there in the early 80s until Dinosaur Beach. I even had my foot stuck on the Golden Nugget.

Rode the Golden Nugget many times. Hunts Pier was truly an Oceanic Wonderland. Knoebels did a great job reinventing the ride and paying tribute to the Nugget at the same time.

I saw the former location of Castle Dracula. They added new letters that say Boardwalk near it at the sidewalk. The old Hunt’s Shore 4 theater was behind Castle Dracula and was razed in 2004. Castle Dracula burned down Jan 16, 2002 and a bunch of stuff was saved by Eric Princz who worked there in 1985 after working at Brigantine Castle. A bunch of items were sold to collectors a few years ago and the Boyer museum has a few things.

I have a cement skull from the castle, leftover from the fire. And, a piece of the castle wall. I also worked there in the castle dungeon, in 1980-81. I still have my original orange & black, castle employee/actor's, jacket☺️!!!!
