Historical Muswell Hill - 1959-1960 inc Ritz Cinema and old Railway Platform

I'm thrilled to have found this old video of Muswell Hill dated around 1960 - rare to find a video like this and in colour! This is a treasure and I'm posting it here for posterity. Enjoy.
Landmarks long-gone that and so good to see are the old Cinema at the top of Muswell Hill, (prizes for telling me in the comments what film is playing as I can't tell), and wonderful footage of the platform of Muswell Hill railway station and railway line before the school was built on top of it. I remember sliding down that slope as a little girl, in the mud, on my birthday.
I'd love to meet the person who shot this footage - I wouldn't mind betting they were female as attention to detail includes much footage of flowers and old ladies taking the air :-)

Everything clean and tidy. People well dressed. Hardly any traffic and no overcrowding. So much nicer back then.

I was born in Muswell Hill I would of been 4 years old when this was first filmed. Lived there till I was 20. Great place.

I lived in Muswell hill at this time. The cinema at the top of Muswell hill was actually the Rex cinema and the one near St James Church was the Odeon.

I found it interesting, to compare to when I lived in North London late in the last century and drove buses out of the now long defunct Finchley bus garage from around the late 80s into the 90s...route 43.

This was edited from a cine film called Beauty in the Borough from an unknown amateur cameraman, and now with London's Screen Archives. I myself posted this on KZread and have produced several videos based on the footage of Muswell Hill, including this which you have renamed and set to an awful soundtrack. And the cinema was in fact still called the Ritz then, it didn't become the ABC until 1963.

Hello, sorry you don't like the sound-track, I'm not mad about it either! I've tried to find one I do like that's the right length but have struggled with what's available on KZread - if you know of one please let me know. And I didn't know the cinema was the Ritz before it was the ABC. I did see the longer video, 'Beauty in the Borough' but apart from a shot of the John Baird pub, this one contained all the Muswell Hill content. Anyway, I was thrilled to find it and I hope you don't mind me borrowing your edit - I just wanted to make sure that I could access it for posterity. If you know of any others like this I would love to see them!

Hi Roz - No, of course not! It's not quite in the public domain (LB Haringey seem to own the copyright now) but as good as. They liked how I used their film and oddly enough, they themselves use my KZread link rather than their own when referring others to this cine film. Regards.

That's great that they do that. I will eventually try and find some nicer music, (or do away with it all together).
