how's the battery life?

Thanks for the demo, but you missed out on two very essential comparisons - show an image of this and a regular phones screen outside in sunlight, where it makes regular phones look really bad. The other is how long does the battery last, when usually the display draws the majority of current when using daily productive apps (not gaming of course) - does it last a week if you are not using the telephone feature for hours each day?

I'm so curious about sideloading a different launcher (like Nova Pro or something like that), or if there will ever be a Lineage OS image

I'd be cool if there was a regular smartphone with an eink display on the back that would duplicate the front display

Hisense also made A6, but I think 2 screens is a a structural flaw, gonna have to clean those screens all the time unless you break them...

Hey thanks for the video ! Small question does it come with play store ? How can we install apps like whatsapp Facebook and etc..? .?

I chose this one, the A5 Pro (greyscale) and I absolutely love the hardware. I believe I can live without the Google Services although I am still desperately searching for some contact app that can sync with Google contacts online (and with the phone's dialer). There are many apps that can sync with Gmail. Some of those can indeed access all of Gmail's contacts but (so far) can't be the phone's contact app and therefore work with the phone's dialer. This is to avoid double entering all new contacts in two places. But I do love the hardware in the A5 Pro (greyscale). I'll only consider buying a color one when it is available as matte (non-reflective). Thank you for your great videos.

Hi Allan I'm thinking of buying this! So you can't even get Google contacts running? Can you got Google Keep or Google Maps on the app store?? Would be great to know. Cheers Jack

@@jdbarkell7292 Google Contacts, only as described above so far. Google Keep not with the app. Perhaps with the web. Other people who have the same phone state that Google Maps works on the web, but I haven't really confirmed it yet.

Another question arose while I was talking about that phone to friends - how rugged is it compared to a standard LCD screen phone ? Is it brittle as an e-reader ? I'm incredibly clumsy and that thing would be submitted to at least a few dumps every weeks ; despite all my precautions, I've destroyed quite at least 7 readers since 2011, while I'm able to keep alive both my phones and tablets.

I liked the yotaphone. A modern variant would be nice.

What USA carriers can this run on?

Does the backlight turn *completely* off when it's set to off or does it still have a faint glow?

If it had the option for warmer backlight i would consider buying it.

How's the battery life?

You need to show us the photo quality outside the device. Literally just put the JPG in the time line in your editor, done.

A dropdown on Cect shop implies that the A5 Pro with Google store installed does not have the e-ink button, but it's a little unclear. Anyone know if that's the case? I don't want to have to choose between the e-ink button and Google store!

How is navigation on this device, does Google maps work and could I use it for bicycle navigation?

That's my question too. Pro shall have magnetometer (a5 not, so no compass, no autorotation of maps). Would be cool if someone could make a video, e. g. with locus.

Am I right, that the Hisense A5 is the better choice regarding E INK display, because it uses a genuine matt (non-reflective) display whereas the A5 pro uses a glossy display where a matt screen protector tries to reduce the negative aspect of a genuine reflective display? If that is right, than the A5 should be the better choice, regarding using it as a E INK reader?

I have the simple a5, and the display is the same as a5pro. Exactly like in the video. Matt protector over reflective display. But it's enough.

But the issue with these phones is that they are not supported by any US carriers and they do not work on many of the networks in the US. There are specific bands that they are compatible with with certain carriers and you will not get consistent service. Outside of the big cities, you will almost never have service in the rural areas, so traveling with these devices is a crapshoot.

@@pleasecaparzo You should now buy it from GoodReader since they sell it now. When I bought it, I had to buy it somewhere else since GoodReader didn't have it yet.

Again, what's the point of buying it, if Google service can't run on it?

@@ethanjiang8766 some apps throw an error that they can't work without google blah blah, but still work. On the other hand I have not been able to get true google apps like GMAIL or Google Maps working...

This is like worse of both world. Either buy a e reader or a standard android phone. However, maybe good for kids so they couldn't play games or watch KZread. 😏

i really really really wish, that apple will make an iPhone mini, to a "minimalistic iPhone" with an e ink display and a batterie life of 2 weeks or more. don't need youtube or any other entertainment. just apps which helps you out with information, organization and when really needed youtube for information in black and white 1pps. please. maybe just an kickstarter project with an "send in iPhone and get back with e ink display" would be huge! for me at least and maybe many other people who believe in digital detox or just want longer batterie life.
