His Last Moment of Freedom for the Next 50 Years

On March 13, 2021 in Florida, a man called 911 to report a stabbing that had just occurred. When officers arrived at the home, they found the caller on the front porch standing over a deceased older male, who was the caller's grandfather. The man had told 911 dispatch that he had acted in self-defense. As the officers spoke with the man to determine what had exactly occurred, he became increasingly aggressive. This is footage of the events that followed.

It's pretty sad the discrepancy between suspects by the Police as a whole. And I'd like to know if it's a discrepancy within their department, if this was the first time they'd dealt with this kind of situation, or if they treat all of their suspects the same way.

Goes to show it's about the behavior more than anything. Sure, they should have secured him faster, and kept their eye on him better, but there's no reason to slam someone or twist their arm if they're following directions, they're literally trained to be detached from the emotions and focus on potential threats/safety. They can't retaliate just because someone deserves it. You can shoot up a mall then surrender and comply with 100% of commands given and you'll never be forced around, or you can scream at the top of your lungs, refuse to ID yourself, and try to pull away in a traffic stop and get beaten/tazed. IDK how people can be so dumb, is the whole "Imma do what I want and you can't make me" logic skin tone related as well?@@randyorton1647

I think they showed exemplary restraint. Only cuffing him when they absolutely needed to... I think officers can learn about self control and deescelation from these guys... Although I think they probably could have detained him in cuffs once he lunged the first time but didn't need to but definitely when they had probable cause when he pulled human ears from his pocket lol they should definitely have cuffed him at that point.. But other than maybe showing unnecessary amount of restraint and discretion in allowing him to be uncuffed after they "want to look at my pocket ears" incident. Otherwise there was no real necessities to cuff him up prior to that.

The officers kept a scene calm and controlled, they had been called to a reported self defense situation and as such had no indication of murder and no need to treat the man aggressively, the officers also likely recognize the man is in an altered state, remaining calm they keep him cooperative, they checked him for weapons, found nothing, he hadn't tried to run, he was a lil uppity but again they knew he was on drugs and had him surrounded. These officers did fucking great. Once the suspect presents the ears, they again keep him calm because a man on drugs freaking the fuck out is not going to help them figure out WHERE the ears came from. They needed his help.

The number of ways this was mishandled. 1. The first officer who made contact kept turning their back to him even though he has blood on his hands and they’ve confirmed a dead body inside. 2. They don’t check him for weapons until he’s sitting on the police tailgate. 3. They don’t decide to handcuff him even after he fake charges one of them 4. They still don’t handcuff him after he asks to see one of their guns 5. They still don’t handcuff him after he pulls out 2 human ears from his pockets identifying they belonged to who they were questioning him about. They finally handcuff him after he charges at them a second time making an attempt at the gun he’s already shown on multiple occasions he’s interested in getting his hands on. Shit I’m not even 100% convinced they wouldn’t have let him sit back on the tailgate uncuffed if he stopped himself that time and didn’t go through with his attempt to get the gun.

I choose to believe they had the guy covered and wanted to keep him as calm as possible while he gave up the story. Problem is you have to mirandize before that body cam confession can be used. I don’t think immediately subduing the guy was automatically the right call. You need to know if somebody is alive in that house. If anything this shows you that police work isn’t just about training. You need very intelligent people doing this job and training them. More training and more rule following isn’t the whole answer.

Because they had been called to a self defense call. That man CALLED the cops. That's why they didn't handcuff him. Imagine your grandpa tries to kill you, so you have to stab him to death and you call the cops and right off the bat they go "Oh handcuff that dude he's a fucking whackadoo" The cops don't know if he is or isn't guilty upon arrival, so they don't cuff him. He hadn't DONE anything until he pulled out the ears. He admitted he was on drugs, the cops knew why he was being erratic. They had him surrounded and fairly calm.
