So was I until the moment she denied a blind, 80 year old woman's request for her sheepskin to lay down on. Turned out she was at the end of her life and worked until the very end but when she asked for her sheepskin to lay down on as the grass was prickly, the journalist did nothing. I found that quite heartbreaking.

People choose to call her their sister. When I was living with locals in Africa 🌍 they also embraced me as a family member - it is their generosity of heart. 💖 😊

She probably helped her off camera and don’t forget she offered her medicine at the start when the old lady wasn’t well. I think she was very kind and respectful to the people and even ate meals with them. They didn’t have good hygiene but she accepted their hospitality.

"We work hard. We work and then, we die." Spoken with a broad smile, a whistle, a grunt as she lifts a burden that would stagger most Westerners. These people live in what would appear to be squalid poverty but seem richer by far than most people pursuing wealth in urban drudgery, alone in their crowds. I very much enjoyed this film.

Absolutely gorgeous documentary. Thankyou . My 89 year old infirm Bengali mother adores this and watches it over and over again. She has just lost her 96 year old husband ( my father ) and this video gives her so much peace.

I would really like to appreciate the work that this woman had put into this video, I belong to this Himalayan region of Zanskar and never felt the beauty of my place until I saw this video, now I'm realizing how unique and beautiful my place is, I'm happy to realize that this stillness and its cut off from the outer world makes it more ravishing and charming. Thank you so much for this video and I would really like to appreciate the fact that she spoke the local language soo well❤

Exactly! People get closer to people not just because watching/filming them but because of the personal interaction which no doubt included working along them. The film maker/scientist had a very close bond with them and yes, they loved Angmo. Beautiful and interesting documentary. The ones who have criticized her, may I question them? I felt both awed and sad during different points in this beautiful video. The "sister" who is only 13, yet works so hard....knowing there is the potential for another kind of life out there. I hope she experiences the plane ride at some point in her life. The great grandmother, blind and still working the fields at 80 years old. I was sad when she died, she is such an inspiration. They all are such happy people. We could take a lesson from them in that you don't need much to make you smile.

This documentary should win Oscar and should be in human digital library forever...

I love the way the villagers individually point out how their village is the best, the calmest, the most scenic, and so on. Th pride and love in their hearts is humbling.

I really appreciate how you interacted with the people and did not exploit or try to sensationalize your video, unlike so many other KZreadrs. I am afraid these KZreadrs will go to these foreign countries and the people in them will start to resent or fear them. We don't need to colonize or exploit anymore people. I really loved your video footage.

I've no idea what have I done to deserve for my eyes to see this documentary; the emotions I'm feeling can't not be described with words. . impossible! Thank you for making this film. I enjoyed it very much. I was especially touched by the 80 year old woman who worked so hard up until the day she died. My mother, who is not one for KZread and such, happened to see a part of the film as she passed through our lounge. She was very interested and asked me to show it to her later, which I did. She was also moved by it and remarked on the rough hands of the 13 year old girl you interviewed. Thank you once again.

I admire their values, thoughts, hard work and way of life. I come from small tribe in India and studying abroad in Germany. I guess, we should change the meaning of words "progressive society or richness". I spend very little time in my own village and after watching this documentary, everything flashes back instantly. this was absolutely the most stunning and beautiful documentary, see how humble and happy and hardworking this beautiful family is, I live comfortably in a big city, but in my assessment these people are richer and happier than I am, watching their daily lives and how they live and survive is amazing and their interactions with nature and animals, if you ask me i would say these people do not need school these people are the teachers, a huge thank you to all who made this documentary possible

This documentary is so marvelous that I do not remember any film comparable seen yet in my 70 yrs. A very commendable and satisfying effort by the Director.

I loved the 13 year old girl. She was so sweet, curious, and fun! Also all the children seem sooo socially aware and smart. Way smarter than our children in the first world.

I'd love to see some updates on this family and that village. I am touched by this family, their life is so hard, plaqued by difficult circumstances yet they prevail season after season. They work so hard and so determined to provide what little they can to their elders and children. We can be distant from grim reality of life sometimes, we need these type of documentaries to speak to use on the humane level.

What an awesome video. Marianne, who filmed had such a sweet relationship with the people. The 13 year old girl was so sweet. I loved the lady at the end who said she would miss her. I admire Marianne for living with them to discover their awesome life. Such a beautiful documentary about the women who live in the Himalayans. Thank you for doing this. There aren't many people who would leave the comfort of their homes to do this. Thank you for sharing your life with them.

I drove through this region on the back of a motorcycle in 2011. Video cannot even capture it's breathtaking beauty, which is still the most moving experience of my life in any land. I saw some nomadic tribes... the opportunity to speak was far from our grasp. What a treasure to learn the language and spend time here. I'm dreaming now of going back!

Wow! I cannot remember watching anything so captivating, and brilliantly filmed. A life of extremely hard & constant work, and yet the people's smiles and sense of humour is beautiful. The great grandmother at 80 years of age seemed to desire release from the never ending toil...and it came quite quickly after that particular scene of her cutting the grass in the field. 'Ephemeral'...

An excellent glimpse of Himalayan life. I'm a frequent travel blogger to the Indian side of the Himalayas, and I find new vibes every time I go there. Wow! Incredible Himalaya.

Such a beautiful documentary about the lives of these village people, I cried at the end when she said she will miss her, what an amazing experience this must have been.

I have lived in that setting 3 years in Ladakh ..I am so happy this documentary portrayed the essence and simplicity of those people ..since I have lived there ..the shear height takes on toll on life what to talk of working in the field ..I saw God in the simplicity and connection of humans with nature ! Living in Canada ..grew up in India ..had privilege of travelling world over ..how humbling is this experience called simplicity ! Thanks for this documentary to show the beauty of life 🙏🙏🙏

You cannot help but watch these people with great affection and respect. In my travels, in some very remote Philippine villages in Mindanao, I was told by a young man, "you will never be us". He meant at the time (I think), 'come and learn and let's be friends but you will leave again.' I'll never forget that. He trusted me enough to say that..... Thank you Marianne!

Than you Marianne and Zed. Your work took me into the home and lifes of people in a place I have only read about. The experience was inspiring and it has taught me that humanity has difficulties wherever we are but it is how those difficulties are dealt which is important. I pray protection for the communities from the intrusion of progress and development and ask divine spirit to guide them. Blessings.

Marvelous documentary, beautiful people who show the good nature of humans in its essence. Watching from France and Australia. Bravo for such effort, worth every minute of it to watch and learn from it.

What to comment here, I am speechless after seeing this video. Best Documentary I have ever seen. By the way, I live in Germany & I am from INDIA. Never thought of High altitude villages in the Himalayas. I born & brought up in South India. we have so much to live happily & we waste food, we save so much money for next next next generations but never think of sharing with anyone. I hope the photographer and editor gets to see this. This was one of the most magnificent videos of its type I have seen anywhere. The photography shots were all stellar and I'm not talking about the obvious scenic beauty. The close ups made me feel like I know these people. Didn't see a sour edit anywhere in the film. (I'm retired news photographer with 50 years experience shooting and editing in a major market.... in other words, I know what I'm looking at and appreciate the monumental effort it must have taken to accomplish this work of art) You have created a work that will live beyond your years. Tonight when I retire for the evening much time will be spend wondering why I have the life I have and not the ones of your friends. God Bless...stay safe

@@bubrinha I had the problem too, but I think, those people have not their vacabulary so rich. They are not educated and live on the same place in isolation. They need not use lot of words like e.e. you. I see how they speak short and quicky sentences and that is problem to translate it to English .So subtitles were very quick too.

When I watched this documentary, I literally noticed one thing which is being thankful for what u have in your life🙏. It is so similar to my village life in Central Afghanistan. I grew up exactly the same. It gave me a lot of emotional feelings 😪. It has been a long time since we moved to Norway 🇳🇴. I'm still miss my village in my hometown ❤ with love from 🇦🇫🇧🇻❤

The great grandmother was blind but she was still working and with a sickle! How remarkable. When it was said she died 3 days later, I wept for her. Why did I do it? Because I know I like these people, clearly they’re my kind of people...

This film remind me of my childhood living in a Chinese village with my grandparents. It's full of the nostalgia. I moved to US with my husband 20 years ago. China has been developed and life is never like before. Besides all the best things happened to my life, deeply in my heart I know something has been missed along the way. I am so happy and almost crying when I watch your films.

I'm from Bhutan. I could understand certain words here and there when the villagers were speaking. Watching this documentary reminds me of home. Very beautiful documentary indeed.

I love knowing that there are so excited villages living like this out ther. They are so lucky not to live in our world .. the stress everyone. Feels for things that don't really matter. .

Beautiful. I’m really pleased to stumble onto this film maker. Their remoteness protects their way of life and in essence their life is simple and uncomplicated. The Indian Government should look to protect these lands from commercialism but at the same time provide education and medical facilities.

"Education"! In other words, tell the women they are oppressed by their men so that they come to hate them, thus destroying the culture.

I fell in love with this beautiful documentary. I keep watching it over and over again and again whenever I feel down. It always help me plant my feet firmly without any fear of whatever lays ahead. So pure, so innocent they looks. Sceneries are so beautiful, serene and melancholic.

Such a deep documentary. Really made me think about life. The children are wise beyond their years especially the 13yo girl watching the sheep. What an intelligent articulate young lady for someone who’s never been to school. The whole village seems wonderful. Very peaceful and content. Super hard working too

So beautiful, the true meaning of living, family, love and simplicity. I love it when the mother said I have everything I need here. What a joyous way to live.

Hard working and solid women all around the world. Those who fight for survival in harsh environments running their families in this documentary or those women in Iran who fight for their basic human rights, we take our hats off to you and respect.

I identify with the old blind grandmother and the joy of living with her granddaughter and being of use though blind! There is always work to be done, a way to contribute. Until you pass you are needed and life Goes on. Wonderful!!!!

I am overwhelmed with how happy these people are having so little. The things we consider necessities they know nothing of. Seem like truly sweet people. God bless them all. Or should I say he already has.

The beauty of these Souls is incredible, so much love and kindness makes me shed tears of joy, how i long to live in such a loving and caring environment, Thanks for sharing this work of art with us all, so there is hope on this planet after all. I love you documentaries.

What a healthy simple way to live. It’s so refreshing. If only people could understand that simplicity and hard work is the best way to live.

We are all made to think that people living like this are unusual or abnormal. After seeing this it shows that these people are human just like us and just as much as we are curious about them they’re curious about us. Watching this makes me want to travel the world, learn new languages, and become friends with beautiful people like this. All in all I am truly grateful to have witnessed this experience.

My heart aches to grandma and even though I am just a viewer in this documentary I feel like I will cry when she said I will miss you and cry for a while 😢 and the kids they are very lovely and hard working at the young age. I wish I will able to hear from them thru this documentary again .💜Please tell them we see them and that they are amazing people and very lucky to have a peaceful village.
