Love this! Came for the lobster, staying for the scary hikes!!! I'm from Canada, just miles from Washington state. I did a similar trip to this. Drove to Camden Tennessee and hiked a bit to where Patsy Clines plane went down. Very steep and not as much left but worth the side trip on my way to Memphis. Love your videos!! I hope to retire in South Carolina oneday.

Haha! I'm from WA State, just miles from Canada. I also found this channel courtesy of Leon but now discovering more and loving it. ❤️
This plane was owned by "Martin Tool Works" ... It was a low time Cessna 414a. It had recently had an annual. The 53 yr old pilot had 2000 total hours, 713 hours in this make and model of plane. He was instrument rated, and had a current medical. The low clouds and rain should not have impacted this flight at all, the plane and pilot were rated for this weather. According to the NTSB, "There were several up and down altitude excursions" (prior to the crash).."After crossing snowbird VOR the aircraft turned south and again there were altitude excursions." "The final radar contact was at 6,100 feet and about 1 mile from the crash site."? They impacted the mountain at 6000 (above sea level), only 11 miles from their destination airport (Jackson County, NC). As stated in the video, the NTSB blamed "inadequate altitude" (obviously) and "Pilot impairment" ... The "altitude excursions" are odd. It indicates a pilot that is disoriented. Yet in this type of plane, and with a 2000 hr pilot this weather should not have been a factor. Unless the alcohol affected the pilot somewhat? At only 11 miles from the destination airport, it seems the pilot was descending to final approach, and simply descended slightly too soon. A 414 travels at around 250mph cruise, things happen VERY fast at that speed with only 11 miles to destination. RIP to the pilot and passenger.
You really can narrate a video well! The shot down the gutted fuselage with taps being played by rain, shelter and sorrow in one shot no narration required. Wow. Well done. Your respect to the site was also commendable.

After seeing this video I took the wife and kids for this hike. Super cool and lots of fun. This trail is pretty rough but fun even for those with limited ability. Several off shoots along the hike to beautiful views of the terrain below. I highly recommend this hike. Thanks for the video!

Very cool you and your family made the hike. Yeah it is such a beautiful forest and area. ✌️✌️✌️
When I see this video, I'm really sorry I haven't traveled to the US. It has to be a lot of fun to explore the Appalachian Mountains by motorcycle. Here in Germany I live in a mountainous and wooded area called the Eifel. The mountains are not that high (max. 747 m = 2450 ft). We're referring to ourselves here as Hill Billys for fun. If I had to live in the US, the Appalachian Mountains would be my first choice.

I hiked this trail by myself and missed the side trail for the plane. I kept going on the main trail for about an hour and finally ended up at a campground with a beautiful look out point. Thankfully I found the plane on my way back.

Hello there
How fortunate for us that you made a snap decision to rescue a lobster from the grocery store. Leon's story has brought many of us to your other very fine videos. These I would probably not have found. Life is odd some times. Say Hi to Leon for us. :)
Great video. It's a stark lesson of how fleeting life is and how things can come to a screeching halt for you and others if you make the wrong choices.

1:34 That’s very good technique how you use framing and pan slowly and steadily to showcase the beautiful scenery! A+++++
When I was a kid i explored the mountainside crash site of a WWII bomber in the San Gabriel mountains of SoCal. I remember finding an engine pretty far from the primary debris field. It looked fairly intact. This was over 50 years ago. I wonder if anyone ever recovered that engine.
"good pot and earthy soil"....I'm putting this on my bucketlist!! lol
So you had videos before Leon! They never would have made it to my feed had it not been for Leon and my interest in animal stories. I look forward to getting to know you Brady!

I love your videos, Brady. I would love more videos on hiking. I live in an area that doesn't have much rain or lush green hiking trails like this :( Rest in peace to the two victims of this plane crash 🙏
Thank you. This is such a beautiful part of my state. I would love to have a cabin here. I live in the Triad but crave the mountains.
wow, the forest looks so cool, in my country we have more dry and flat woods.. .(
I can say with certainty that the NTSB recovered the engines. It’s an integral part of any aircraft accident investigation.
U made my lunch break time awesome. This video is amazing. Would love to check that out in the future.

Brady, good job. You created an interest to follow, crafted an excellent mood, punctuated with the quiet rain tapping on the metal fuselage. I like your narration timing, gives me time to drift a bit and speculate about the eventful evening, so long ago. OK, and who is taking care of Leon. You are good at this.
Really awesome and well done video and excellent Narration. I thank you for allowing me to learn about a place such as that crash site. Amazing!

Found this video because of the Idiots in Bars interview. Strange that the full wreck was not removed in 1983 as part of the investigation. But it made for an interesting, eerie, reflective hiking destination. Googling, I read an article about the wreck's removal in June 2023.

@Bradybrandwood It still looks like a beautiful area to hike through. And I was a little curious why they would have left that debris and not removed it back in the 80s. I'm glad they removed it. And it's cool that you were able to capture it before it was removed. It was kind of like going on a little adventure vicariously through you. I enjoy your videos a lot, thank you! Say hi to Leon for me.🙂
Love the scenery, your outdoor adventures are so well filmed, really immerses me in the area feels like I’m there. Probably not the best idea for me to watch this particular video while my daughter is flying on a plane to Texas and due to land in a few minutes. Makes me feel a bit 😬

7:21 The dog gave a bit of a fright. At first I thought it was a wild animal that had been lurking while you filmed the site.
Very Vantastic and beautifus
I don't have any specific information about this plane crash, but ... after death, the body's metabolism stops, so the level of alcohol in the blood will not change until the body decomposes.
I loved this video! What’s the song you used when you walk in to the plane crash site?
Wow, over 6000 feet? That’s almost as high as mount mitchell
Thanks for the wonderful trip on the mountain, but why didn' t anyone pick this plane from there, so far? If the forest is the problem, why didn' t they wrap it around with some heavy duty cables and belts/harnesses and just drop a hook from a Chinook chopper or something, above from the air?
I lived not far from here just a few years ago, never knew this was here... From my knowledge (as a forensics student + a refresher from google), blood alcohol doesn't decrease after death--but apparently in certain conditions it can _increase_ if left alone for long enough. Not enough to cause the reported amount/get him 'under the legal limit,' but I thought I'd mention it too.

That’s interesting for sure! When I saw the valleys there when I was hiking I thought about how scary it must’ve been to be in the dark with rain trying to navigate through those valleys and peaks.
Did you happen to catch the registration number? I love reading into some of the history and reports
Omg I went here! I'm from New Zealand lol
Brady I watched your video of the plane crash. You were talking about the smell of marijuana. Made me remember about a plane crash in Dalton County GA. Andrew Plott and William Flannigan were hauling marijuana in a B 25. Being chased by officials they dumped about a ton of marijuana before hitting the hillside, killing both of them. I've been interested in this story since I was about 18. went to school in Duluth and their last name was Plott. I think Andrew Plott was their father. me girls all happened no trying to find a newspaper article about Andrew Plott from Duluth GA.
@7:42 see someone behind the wreckage, were you there on your own or were there other hikers?
Did it not catch fire? How long did it take to find and recover? It is notoriously difficult to establish a reliable BAC post mortem. If the plane had no fire at crashing maybe it was out of fuel. I thought the opening music was wonderful and appropriate but the techno-new age whatever was a wee bit jaunty for the circumstances.

I believe it was 18 hours before the plane was located. Good question about the fuel. If the plane was clipping trees coming through the wings and fuel tanks may have been sheared off by trees.
another great video, sir! prolly wasn't much of an investigation as soon as the pilots blood was tested. the rest is a given.
I need to work on my endurance for this!

nearly 80k subscribers. Get ya a camera my guy.
Did you get a chance to see the Smoke Monster?
Why do I gotta live in the desert, why can't I live somewhere that is this type of environment? Also, there is something eerie about seeing abandoned vehicles or structures mixed within nature like this IMO. It's like a symbol of impermanence, the embodiment of the idea that what we create could be taken away from us by nature if nature so chooses to take it away from us, things like shipwrecks or abandoned buildings in the woods are so creepy because they're an example of this.
Maggie valley is the moonshine capital where popcorn Sutton was from
its a plane from third part of jurassic park :D
Have u been to cades cove
The engines were taken by the NTSB to rule out any engine issues. That the rest remained there on that mountain will in a way ensure that those two lives are remembered until nature takes back what once belonged to her and only her.
So sad!
U should do some ghost hunting if u get bored there are plenty of spots here in Tennessee and definitely in Georgia and historic North Carolina
What music did you use?

The process of decomposing will increase the deceased BAC so depending how long it took authorities to recover the body and get it to the autopsy table means it’s possible that alcohol played no role in the crashing of the plane✌🏼
