This match speaks volumes about Hikaru’s resilience and resourcefulness, and Magnus’ raw domination even on an off day. He was clearly off-form but still nearly clutched it at the end. He led the 3+1 and 1+1 after playing badly in the 5+1. GOATs in classical and online formats. What a match!

Thats what i try to tell everyone. Thtas why magnus use to rage a bit more when he loses important matches or games, hes constantly in need to prove or he would be washed as the comment and chat was. Chat was so toxic calling Naka a stellar and all that, but when magnus was losing in 5+1, hes was constantly called a "washed" player and Goat But he cant win everytime and against Naka is a matter of whos playing better that day, Naka is a monster in blitz, slightly faster than Magnus and hes just at his level in rapid, magnus slightly better since positional chess works very well in rapid and magnus is a master of endgames and every kind of positions, Naka is very fast and táctical. He is in his house when it comes to blitz. Magnus isnt worse, he just is unconsistent and a bit slower. Slower becz he was almost 2 minutes down in some 5+1 games Crazy to see that, they are both Monsters, magnus kinda did very good right after 5+1 but that wasnt enough. Classical is another story, Magnus is a positional machine player, none can beat him in a long term match

if bullet was first and blitz last then magnus woulda won. It has nothing to do with who got the points first. Hikaru knew Magnus would win in bullet. There shouldn't be a game clock at all. @@jaakezzz_G Magnus did the exact same thing to MVL in this very championship, as would any other player in the same position. Bleeding the clock is a perfectly valid strategy in speed chess. Look, blame the game, not the player - there's a reason it's called "speed chess" and not just "chess". Time management is an integral part of the game. It's a specific skillset you need to manage, in the exact same way that chess boxing doesn't just have checkmate as a win condition. Keeping an eye on the clock is no more and no less than any other element of the game, and if you're placed in the position where your opponent can stall for time to win, then that means you mismanaged your time, no more and no less. Do you also call castling a "dirty tactic"? Furthermore, when in a championship, you play to win, not to hand over pretty flowers to your opponent. You use the legal means at your disposal to win the game. These are two monster chess players battling it out, and I very much doubt Magnus Carlsen, of all people, would want his opponent "gifting" him games. That'd be an insult not just to the game, or the audience watching, but to Magnus himself. You don't want time based showdowns? Don't watch time based games, it's as simple as that.

Because it's only maybe 2 minutes of wait time, and the commentators can use that to make intelligent observations about the game - they often don't have that time because of the fast pace.
