Someone in his chat pointed out what's going on with the pieces and they're right. With this animation, when you pick up a piece they grow... But when you let go it doesn't shrink back down. So every piece he touches grows, and obviously his opponents pieces are always smaller because he doesn't pick them up

the actual reason some pieces are bigger than other is because those pieces are left over from the previous game, you can see when he checkmates or gets checkmated, the remaining pieces are bigger in the next game. 22:18 here you can see, in the last game there was only a black and white king with a white pawn, now the next game, the h pawn and both kings are bigger than usual, you can also go around other games to see it. The pawns are different sizes. I took a screenshot, when into photoshop and measured the pixels. It’s not an illusion, I thought it was at first, but nope. Just measure them in photoshop and you’ll see. There are bigger pawns and smaller ones.

I think the black pieces look bigger because they are positioned slightly higher on the square. You notice the space between the top of the piece and the top of the square is larger on white pieces, which makes black pieces look bigger. But I think also the distance from the bottom part of the piece to the bottom part of the square makes up the difference.

No, pay attention to the pieces, they grow when Hikaru picks them up, but they don't shrink back down as he puts it back. Probably an error on the developer.

The pieces really are different sizes. If you look at the bottom of the board squares, you can notice extra space where the smaller pieces are compared to their bigger counterparts. What a weird way to make a game. Must be one hell of a bug.
