I'm pretty sure this is me. Last night I went to a comedy show and I seemed to be the only one wearing ear plugs, because everyone's microphones were so damn loud, but I know enough to bring ear plugs. I envy and admire people who can let other people's comments or insults roll off their back. I take everything personally but I try not to let it show.

That’s why I bring my AirPods with me every where…just wearing those on their own (like no music or podcasts playing-they’re just in my ears) drowns out a good bit of noise, and also, stops others [strangers] from coming up and talking to me 😂

HSP, what? I am 78 and have study the Ennegram for decades and I never saw this so important piece for type 2. Long ago, told so often and sometimes ridiculed for being too sensitive I didn't realize the negetive judgement on myself I've carried all my life, deep in the shame. As I was a little more comfortable with my 8 strength in the missing piece, I would begin to reply that with the state of the world as it is, that it would be good if people were more sensitive! My thank you is a big one. I meditated on this and vindicated by the "magical amount of empathy" is true .I do have a "rich inner life" and is what makes me a good writer and storyteller.....because I "get" people. And my characters come alive. Thank you for the boust today! I have to see if you have done all 9 types of the future woman's return. 🥰💖💯Love! LOL, That's easy!

INFJ, HSP, and SX 4... That's a whole lot of feelings, emotions, and empathy to contain and manage! No wonder I'm always so tired. Ironically enough, I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I recently learned that it's because I swallow a LOT of pain / suffer in silence in order to not be a burden to others and when I can't take it anymore, I lash out. Great video, Abs!

Funny thing, I learned recently that the Elaine Aron, who first coined HSP, identified it in her family members, who have since been diagnosed as autistic. Hell, I probably fit the bill for HSP, but I got my autism diagnosis a long time ago. So how are we sure that the venn diagram isn’t just a circle, or just a subcategory of autistic people?

And THIS explains why I cannot - and won't - go to malls (or large stores) post Thanksgiving and leading up to Christmas -- too much stimulation, too many feelings to process, and too much everything. And, yes, those coping skills - so helpful [like hitting Target by 9:30 AM on a notoriously slow day, going grocery shopping really early] but had to learn them ... and also remember that once January rolls around, things go back to normal (well, except for at the gym - so continue hitting those off hours :-) )

I’ve heard of HSP for a long time, and my parents both are, but I kept going back and forth about if I was one. Then I remembered that I plugged my ears while watching the 4th of July fireworks every year, even into my adulthood, because it was too loud and I really dislike being startled. 😅

I have the Te shield 😅That's explain a lot of things, a lot ! Don't stop to spread awareness to save people' soul !

Actually, HSPs usually have a high pain tolerance, but since we can feel every little thing, it can seem like low pain tolerance with less painful things. (And I think there was quite enough word about that) I like explaining it like this: the pain you feel on a scale of 1-5 we feel on a scale of 1-10 (or even 15). (Maybe this would be better explained if both were scales of 1-10, but you only scaled with every other number, while we scaled with every number). So what you will still categorize as pain level 1, we can categorize as pain level 2 (or 3 or also 1). Or something you may not even feel (say pain level 0), we will feel. But at the same time, what you will categorize as pain level 10, we may categorize as a 9 (on a 1-10 scale) because we differentiate more between the insensity

Basically no Neurodivergent person goes through life without massive amounts of trauma, scanning for emotions all the time and watching little signs of other people's behavior is actually hypervigilance, which you can't turn off and it's exhausting; it's from CPTSD. Turns out I don't feel like an alien because I'm a 4: It's because I'm autistic. I don't consider myself an HSP/empath because my 'empathy' fails a lot, I'm bad at social cues and I interpret 'vibes' wrong all the time.

This is perfect. Thank you, Abbey. Being misunderstood my whole life to seeing myself *understood* in a 2 minute video…is pretty dang cool! I love it! 🫶🏻 As an HSP, I was told I was “too sensitive” all my life by my family. (Mom, Dad, older Sister, younger Brother-yep I’m also the _middle_ child) But, I had a therapist tell me, that I probably wasn’t being _sensitive_ as much as they were being *_insensitive._* That’s when I started researching and found out that I’m an hsp. Unfortunately, no one in my family (mom, dad, sister, brother) wanted to understand. Or cared. Insensitive, right? Now, both my sister & brother have 1 highly sensitive child each- My sister (who was basically my bully growing up) has a highly sensitive little girl, and has shared her worries of not being able to connect with her to my mom and I… I’ve given her advice, that she hasn’t ever taken or used, but _still_ wants to complain about her and her daughter’s relationship. What do you do when your bully, who is your sister, is *_still_* bullying you and has now turned her highly sensitive child into a bully, too..? 🤷🏻‍♀️💔😐

Hi Abbey! Thanks for recognizing that being an 'HSP' can often mean that you're just autistic 😅 that's how it was for me (7) anyway! BTW, I'd absolutely LOVE if you went into tritypes! I recently discovered it and it's changed everything for me, including how I view the Enneagram. Thank you for everything you do! Lots of love ❤

It was the same for me (1). I resonated so much with one of Abby’s earlier videos on HSP’s and really started heavily researching it which ultimately led to me getting diagnosed as autistic. I’m very grateful it started me on that path as I finally understood myself 😅.
