    I am interested in pursuing full time one year MBA from some renowned B schools. To give you my brief background, I have a total of close to 13 years of work experience and additional 2 years of Mtech from IIT Madras. I have a diverse industry experience to name a few EPC(Engineering, procurement and construction), oil and gas service provider, Tech education, Agriculture equipment manufacturer and currently working for one of the IT service industry as a Data Scientist. I have always been an individual contributor throughout my career till now. I have gone through one of your article on MBA at different stages of life and was really insightful where you mentioned about pursuing executive education for a profile that is similar to me, however I request you to help me understand about pros and cons about MBA at this stage of life specifically executive course(1year) but full time. It will be really helpful if we can have a discussion.

    It does get trickier to get an MBA after 30. The odds of making a complete career transition goes down, since most employers will reward the pre-MBA experience more. If you've never led a team before, the question that can come up is: How did the MBA help in building leadership skills. Here's more on the topic: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2012/11/13/mba-age-over-30-too-old-for-bschool/

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    The Canadian investment banking industry is quite small compared to the US. Other than the bulge bracket banks, the IB industry in Canada is dominated by domestic banks: BMO, CIBC, National Bank, RBC, Scotiabank, TD. Much of the recruiting happens at the undergrad level. Location wise, the action happens in Toronto. So any bschool that can get you closer to the action will be good.

    Are all Phd degrees stem designated or is there a different system altogether for it? Plus, are academic careers in the US paid well in comparison to MBA in the US?

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    3 ай бұрын

    1. No, all PhD degrees are not STEM designated. Consider for example, a doctorate in a fine arts topic. This wouldn't be remotely connected to STEM. 2. Academic careers in the US can pay well...but only at the top. For the rest, it's the same story as with regular jobs - with competition and brand playing a big role in the competition. In comparison, MBA grads on an average would do better since there are more high-paying MBA jobs on offer than high-paying academic jobs.

    Take the call based on whether this work will be helpful to you consider your current requirements. The payment rates don't matter, go with whatever works in your interest. Don't worry about what adcoms will think about it. As long as you do good, impactful work, you would be able to mention it in the application. Think about sailors who work on contract only for a part of the year. When do you plan to apply?

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    4 ай бұрын

    LBS is a far more global brand than ESADE. That branding trickles down into not only its flagship program (i.e. MBA), but also the other programs such as MiM. The other big advantage is its location - which gives LBS students access to all the opportunities London has to offer.

    LBS wins if you're comparing brands. But for specialised masters focusing on entrepreneurship, you should also look beyond the brand and see what each program is offering, that will help you in your career goals. Otherwise, it'll just end up being an apple to orange comparison.

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    5 ай бұрын

    PPP projects tend to be more complex due to the number of stakeholders involved. So, it's tough to assign a compensation number since it would depend on the role played by the professional. Some compensation aggregation sites give a range (e.g. Salary.com says PPP project managers earn between $76K to $97K), but that may not be representative of the industry. Can you share a little context to the query? Are you in the role currently, or planning to get into it?

    The top tier schools may be more rigid than the lower ranking ones in terms of how they look at career breaks. Having said that, if you are able to get a competitive score on the GMAT, there's not much of a downside in putting a few well-written applications. You might end up surprising yourself with what you convert. An important question first. Have you figured out how you want to use the new degree?

    Exam day pressure is a big problem even for applicants who have excellent academic and professional credentials. If you can overcome that, you'll have many doors opening. The top IIMs including IIM Calcutta have offered excellent career opportunities to their MBA grads for years. Right now, the economy is not in the best shape, which in turn means that the job opportunities aren't at the same level. Business schools across the world (including Harvard Business School) have been impacted by this turn of events. So it won't be right to write off a good institute based on an uncharacteristic year. As and when the economy bounces back, we can expect IIMs placements stats to also get back to where they've always been. When are you planning to apply to MBA programs?

    Thank you for sharing that perspective, Rishabh. As the title & thumbnail indicate, the idea behind this video was to talk about the 'highest' salaried jobs in finance, as opposed to 'average' salaries for MBA grads in finance. Considering that objective, Harvard and Stanford rank among the top in terms of how high finance salaries can go, even for entry level jobs. We do have an old video on average salaries in Finance that goes beyond the elite b-schools. But that data is outdated now. If there's a significant interest in it, we could consider revisiting the topic.
