Hearing the opening piano notes of the ending song from "Parents Day" still makes me burst into tears. The Christmas episode with Mr. Hyunh? Forget about it. I adored this show growing up. What really makes it special is how it depicts childhood; being a kid isn’t always fun. Childhood can sometimes be disappointing or even downright sad. Life isn’t perfect for anyone and this show captures that brilliantly.

THANK YOU for bringing back this segment, Chris. I’ve missed it SO MUCH! It’s wonderful to hear you talk about Hey Arnold!, b/c it meant a lot to me growing up in the 90s as well. I haven’t watched the show in almost 20 years, and I still have vivid memories of so many episodes. (Anyone that hasn’t watched the show, I won’t spoil episode details) Four in particular that I’ve always remembered are: -The Vacant Lot - the kids search the city for a vacant lot to play baseball off the streets. -Mugged - Arnold learns martial arts in response to being, well, mugged. -Arnold’s Christmas - the Christmas special where Arnold gets Mr Hyunh as his Secret Santa. -The Flood - Arnold’s class & teacher are trapped inside PS118 from an intense flood storm.

Hey Arnold was those rare Nickelodeon shows that really made you laugh out loud, even watching it today as a 33 year old. It was clean, yet kind of edgy, with very quotable scenes/lines. You just couldn't believe a grown up wrote those episodes. "Hey Maria, come over here!" Hey Vato, why dont' you come over here?!"

I was born in 1995, and grew up being a huge Nick fan. Jimmy Neutron, Rocket Power, Spongebob, Catdog. However, Hey Arnold was just something else. I´ve never seen another animated show like this. So smart, mature and enrichening in all levels. As an adult you finally get all the metaphores, and symbolisms behind the whole thing, and what the characters were hinting. Never gets old.

I love the moments where you learn that the stories we tell ourselves about the things we don’t understand, end up being overly exaggerated. Like stoop kid just a homeless kid that’s ignored, like wise with pigeon man. We tell ourselves these people are scary but then we find out that actually if we just have some empathy they’re often like us and just need some one to understand their situation. Pretty deep lesson once you realize that.
