Herod Orders the Massacre of the Innocents - Aramaic Bible Study Matthew

The following is from my Aramaic Bible Study series, covering the Massacre of the Innocents found in Matthew 2:13-18 in the Classical Syriac. I read the passage in both the Western accent written in the Serto script and commonly found among the Syriac Orthodox, Maronite Catholic, and Syrian Catholic communities (and historically the Antiochian Orthodox). I also read the text in the Eastern accent found among the Ancient/Assyrian Church of the East, the Chaldean Catholics, and the Syriac Orthodox and Syriac Catholic communities of Northern Iraq.
For a reading of the text in the square script used to write the Hebrew language (Kitav Ashuri), see the link below at my Substack site.

Just like biblical and historical evidence proves that jesus and his apostles were vegatarians biblical and historical evidence also proves that the trinity, atonement, original sin and hell are very late misinterpretations and are not supported by the early creed hence its not a part of Christianity I pray that Allah swt revives Christianity both inside and out preserves and protects it and makes its massage be witnessed by all people but at the right moment, place and time The secred text of the Bible says ye shall know them by their fruits So too that I say to my christian brothers and sisters be fruitful and multiply Best regards from a Muslim ( line of ismail )

I was just at Rachel's Tomb last Monday. There is lots of Aramaic there! Every Kaddish is loud and clear Aramaic. People read the Zohar, which is in Aramaic from 1900 years ago. People are learning Talmud, which 30% Aramaic. More than anything else, people read Psalms there. Perhaps David composed some of them right there. Now, Rachel was the daught of "Laban, the Aramean." So, until Rachel married Jacob, Rachel was speaking all Aramaic.

Sir, I have a question. Why do we use the term “vocalisation tradition” for abjad texts rather than “pronunciation tradition “?

I'm not sure it matters in substance. One may reflect more anatomical literature and the other more philological.

In verse 2:16 i saw something interesting. ܬܰܪܬܶܝܢ ܫܢܺܝܢ Means two years. I guess the word ܫܢܝܢ is in dual form (ܫܶܢ݇ܬܐ + ܝܢ) the (-en) suffix from what i had read was gone in neo-aramaic dialacts and syriac (meaning that the dual form was lost) but it existed in older aramaic dialects. It is really interesting to see dual form in this verse. Note: Singular form is(ܫܢ݇ܬܐ) Dual form? (ܫܢܝܢ) Plural from (ܫܶܢ̤ܶܐ) Please correct me if i made a mistake because this is what i had read and maybe it is wrong. And by the way thanks for the series prof. Michael...and i hope you will recover soon🌹

It could be read that way without the Zow'e (vocal marks), but the way it is vocalized seems to be according to the absolute form of the plural noun rather than the emphatic (shnayo). But with that said, the original translator of the text may have intended a dual, which would be the same spelling as the plural absolute, and over time was just flattened to a plural form. It would be an interesting starting place for further research. Nice suggestion!
