Hermle Mantel Clock Review

I recently purchased this Hermle Mantel Clock after deciding that I really wanted a "skeleton clock" mechanical clock. I love the wide open design of this one, allowing me to see all of the clock's moving parts (expect for the main spring which is well-contained inside a metal cylinder). This one has a nice, gentle hourly strike along with a soothing, constant ticking sound the rest of the time. The hourly strike is a bell that's not too quiet but also not too loud. The bell rings just once at the top of each hour (unlike some other clocks which would strike the bell once at 1:00, twice at 2:00, three times and 3:00, etc.).

That's a lovely lantern clock. I didn't know that style was being made today. Did it come with a glass dome to keep it away from dusy? If not, you m9ght consider that. You can get them as replacements for broken anniversary clock domes. Nice video.

An interesting and informative review from Greg - but what about it's timekeeping performance? This would have made a valuable aspect for me, as I have a similar Hermle clock but have no idea what accuracy to expect at best.

The bell is like the top of the hour chime on electronic watches. It reminds that the time is running. Especially good if you tend to be distracted. You can also get an app which does the same on the phone. I have it set to chime bottom of the hour and top.

Greg, I think it's pronounced Hermla, kind of like Porsch-a or Heid-a which are spelled ending in 'e'.

I won’t claim to know enough German to get it right. But I will confess that I tried to pronounce it the way the announcer does in this video which seems like some kind of official marketing piece... kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXeJk8iNYd3Khrw.html

It’s between “Herml-ah” and “Herml-eh”. Just as noted earlier. No one drives a “Porsch-ee”.
