How on earth does this work?? This is so realistic! It reminds me of the story regarding the throne room of the Great Palace of Constantinople of the Eastern Roman Empire, wherein the throne room, there were automaton lions and Griffins that would roar upon pressing a lever to impress/intimidate a diplomat and a tree entirely made of gold and gems complete with automaton birds sitting on it that would sing. Had I not found this video, I would never have guessed that these automata sound so realistic!

So it's like, a beautiful gift to give to someone to let them know that you wanna knock boots? ..scandalous ;)

In 1993? Have you seen hyrogliphs or Greek art? Nude imagery in sexualised situations has been documented for thousands of years and it wasn't until the Catholic Church started traveling the globe and destroying art and monuments, that is was deemed blasphemous. There were opium dens and legal brothels around the world up until the last 100 years, when it became illegal in a lot of countries. Greeks and Romans had bath houses and a lot of rulers had concubines as well as multiple wives. Sex and relationships werent taboo or set to a certain standard of rules until the church made it that way. That's where the whole one man, one woman, virgin until marriage, marriage until death ideas originate from.

This piece is amazingly beautiful . I am so glad this popped up in my feed . I may not be rich but i have found some vary rare items at garage sales and estate sales . My friends are amazed at how many beautiful things i have found . It's shocking how ppl will sell something valuable just to get whatever they can for it . It's actually sad . Sometimes they don't have a clue as to how valuable it is . Ppl say oh you can't take that stuff with you when you die , but i say no i can't but i can definitely leave it to someone i love , just as my Grandmother left me some of her treasures when she passed . I appreciated the box and the craftsmanship of the bird, but the sound of the bird was grating to my ears. Even if it sounded natural. If this box were gifted to me way back when, I'd have it for display only. I'd probably ocassionally use the box to find out the time. Thanks for posting this video. It was very nice.

1993 I had no idea they were still making them just 19 years ago. The box. I personally am not a fan of the engraving the bird and cl9ck make them very special.

I clearly remember my grandmother had three of these singing bird boxes. I wish I knew what happened to them.

So beautiful! It would be my dream to own one of these boxes! 💕 Though, I have a bit of a theory, as to why it was never taken out of its case: It was probably given as a gift, between lovers. The recipient of the gift thought that the amorous design was too risque; but loved the sentiment of the gift. So they never displayed the box, but kept it as a secret treasure/keepsake.

I used to have an Olympus digital camera just like yours! I miss that little thing.
