Here's Why Twilight Princess is Awesome!

Ойындар

Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii is my favorite Zelda. I like it more than Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past, Breath of the Wild, and Majora's Mask. The game isn't flawless, but I think a lot of it is misunderstood, which is why I made this video.
Because it's Awesome.
This is the result of a little passion project of mine where I try to be positive for once. I rib on the other games a bit, but Skyward Sword is the only one I think is something other than good.

My favorite part was it's well executed application of the classic "Hero's Journey" format. It gave the story this epic adventure feeling, that combined with the dark tone was perfect. It's also why I think I got a calm and comforting feeling everytime I returned to Ordon village, since that was Link's "ordinary world" prior to the start of the main plot.

Eric Sledge skyward sword was monotonous repetitive and the gameplay longer than it should have been. I felt cheated and thought that Link was just being used. And though the dungeons were fun and creative, the imprisoned three fight was just forced suspense and unneeded. The bosses were too easy, especially Girham whatever, thus, unmemorable. The story was ok, but not good, and a lot of time wasted by too many pointless runarounds. It’s in no way comparable to TP.

I think OoT's artstyle is the ideal "realistic" style for Zelda. Majora's Mask is mature and realistic without being *literally* too dark, so much that it looks dull and muddy. TP is not a pretty game to look at in my opinion. I mean, I really like the style, but I'd clean it up, and saturate the colors a little bit.

@@hyruleguy9569 I agree. I've played every 3D Zelda and TP's artstyle just puts me off from playing it. There's just too much darkness/drabness and not enough, well, color. Majora's Mask did it perfectly, and even OoT manages to use color better. I'd much rather look at a like Skyward Sword than TP. Still a good game though.

Everyone keeps talking about how the sword combat works like “waiting for an opening.” Well yeah it’s not like you can just wildly swing away and expect your enemies to do nothing about it, that’s just not realistic in the slightest, it makes far more sense for them to guard and punish you for hacking like a mad man. And Twilight Princess especially makes this better with the hidden moves some of the are really good a breaking through or slipping around an enemies guard.

Exactly! I’d like them to combine TP’s and BOTW’s combat for the ideal system in a future game. Not only would it have the slightly more realistic and more interesting combat with hidden skills and such, but it would have the very appealing flurry rush and perfect parry seen in BOTW, rewarding the player both for exploring for the Hidden Skills and for accurately executing combat maneuvers.

Honestly, after playing Sekiro I don't expect any other game to do sword combat any better. Sekiro nailed it. @@nefariouswatcher I think Twilight Princess is, fittingly, forever stuck in between polarized opinions. Some people love it, some people hate it, but the community at large has yet to really make a solid decision on it. The combat is a prime example of that, and I agree that it was a good next evolution in the series. BOTW’s is less based on executing maneuvers when the opportunity presents itself, and moreso on forcing that opportunity to appear and taking advantage of it immediately. A fusion of the two would be amazing!

I'm in a weirdly similar situation, where TP was the first Zelda I had ever finished on my own (hell, I think it was the first one I ever even played) back when my family first got a secondhand Wii in ~2006. The game's weird and charming characters mixed with the dark atmosphere has always really stuck with me, and it's always kind of made me upset to not see many other games attempt to recreate or improve upon it. I'm glad to see so many people finally coming out to support this absolute gem of a game, it really gives me hope for the future. (It also helps to boost my own morale while I try making my own game(s) following in TP's footsteps)

This game is seriously my favorite game ever, I can't even explain the good memories and how much happiness it brings me everytime I do as much as see the cover of the game or hear a part of any song in it. I would spend hours just riding Epona around Hyrule Field just to hear the song and feel... Happy. I was in a very dark place during my teen years, but when they released the HD version I could find that happy place again, it didn't solve my problems but it made me happy if only for a few hours of gameplay. I even had a self-harm cover up tattoo of this game, so everytime I would think of doing it again I would see and remember this game and remember happiness... Some people shame videogames but I can assure you that this one almost literally saved my life, and I'll be forever grateful 😁

I do admit to having a save file right after Lakebed Temple though as the game truly opens up there. Nothing beats A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask for me though. Link to the Past is so fun because if you're competent at it, you can finish it start to finish in an evening with the full experience, not using insane room-warp glitches. A compliment I'll give Twilight Princess is besides the five pieces required for a full heart container, it might have the best set of heart pieces in the franchise. No tedious super-difficult minigames (looking at you Clock Town Shooting Gallery and Bombchu Bowling's random prizes in Ocarina of Time).

I'm just happy to see Twilight Princess getting some love to go along with all the criticism. It's my favourite Zelda game, and one of my favourite games ever. I'm not blind to its faults, but that doesn't make it any less of a masterpiece. It fit my autistic little heart like a key when I first played it. I remember the very first time I booted it up. Right from the opening cinematic of Link in Hyrule field, it snared me. I sat there in stunned silence, listening to the _gorgeous_ music until the choir hit that high note and the title appeared, at which point I said to myself, out loud in a shaky voice, "Oh, this is going to be awesome..." And then it was. God, I love this game. The Legend of Zelda is an amazing series overall, but it's safe to say that it wouldn't hold the place in my heart that it does without Twilight Princess.

Relatively new to the series and not having any of the baggage from the past decade I can safely say that OoT, TLP, BoTW, and a LTP have been the most fun to play. I plan to play majora's mask soon so perhaps that will get added. Although the first zelda game I ever played was Zedla 2 for my gameboy when I was 4. As you'd imagine I never got far. But my whole point here being that what I find most interesting is the inspiration and take aways in all the games. Maybe it's because I played the games for the first time and all at around the same time but I definitely picked up on this undeniable heart. And twilight princess happens to be one of my particular favorites simply because it's a sort of middle ground to botw and oot. (A twilight if you will) it doesn't necessarily seem to sacrifice what a LTP did with it's world building and dungeons and only improves on wind waker and ocarina. (And Majora's Mask) So seeing the game for what it is now just makes me love it. I'm definitely not saying it's the best game I've ever played nor is it the best game ever. But the dungeons and the world and the tool usage. Like dang chief the shit slaps. The only issue I'd say is the combat. Those special moves you learn. I think they are fine and fun. But apparently seeng other play, despite how the game has basically forced you to learn them by just making it easy to discover the stones and find the Shadow and then take the time to learn the move people seem hell bent on just ignoring it. And then I see them rag on the combat. Chief, press the damn buttons. It ain't hard. So my issue is that I think they should jave been mandatory so that enemies would have to be built around those skills instead of just generic enough that with patience you can beat them. I honestly don't get why people would do that and then complain. But I think the devs forcing people to have to activatly fight and think would have fixed that. Other than that the game is fine.

So many people jack off to Windwaker and are annoyed when I say I wasn't a fan but I always felt that game had zero atmosphere compared to Twilight or other 3D Zelda's, and atmosphere is what got me into the very original Zelda and Metroid games in the first place.

  • @tatltails3923

No, Zant is the one who broke it, because it's an actual plot point that the reason it's in pieces was because Zant tried to destroy it completely and failed because only the True Ruler of the Twilight Realm can do that (like Midna does at the end), so Midna uses the mirror being technically intact though broken into chunks as proof that he never actually took her birthright from her and his powers don't come from Twili magics.

OOT will always be a great game. It certainly has it's limitations but it came out on the N64, a system severely hamstrung by a lack of storage space. It's still completely playable and that's what matters the most. True classics maintain that status because of their gameplay and OOT is still fun to play. It's not my # 1 Zelda title but I still enjoy the hell out of it. It definitely conjures up the most nostalgia for me due to the song scenes between link and Sheik, those scenes are pure magic for me.
