Art is 100% the biggest barrier for entry. Anyone can design a game system in text, but people will not buy it without visual appeal. You either need an art background or money to pay sometime. And I mean LOTS of money. Artists will charge anywhere from $50-1,000 for a single piece of art depending on their career level (or ego). Let's say your first card set is 200 cards... so even at that low end of $50, we're taking about $10k JUST for card art, before even getting into symbols, icons, layout design, promotional art, etc... this eliminates like 99.9% of would-be game designers from ever achieving something even resembling a polished product. Now, if you are blessed enough to have art skills... you need a different resource: time. Have fun spending orders of magnitude more time on artwork than actual game design. Personally, I hate making art. I'm not good at or interested in it, but I love graphic and layout design, typesetting, etc. So what I try to do is make the "bones" of my game, then use AI-generated placeholder art with the expectation that it gets replaced later once real artists can be brought on board.

I'd love it if Magic the Gathering came out with another crossover set! 🤞🤞 I normally don't like crossover sets but next to Dungeons and Dragons, I feel like this game relates to Magic the Gathering and I'd love to create a more in - depth Commander deck (preferably Blood Angles (my favorite clan, lol)). Also, a deck of cards is easier to assemble than one Warhammer figurine, lol.

Hey Kohdok! If you haven't already, you should make a video on how a complete newcomer can get into Warhammer. What's a good format to start with? I'd never heard of Kill Team before your video and that got me really interested, as all you need is a handful of minis.
@Kohdok5 күн бұрын
Killteam and Warcry are inexpensive, assuming you find a group who already plays and has the added kit. Killteam's starter set is $100 for two armies + Terrain, otherwise. However, as Skirmish games, they do not play like classic Warhammer. Spearhead and Combat Patrol are double the price, but both can be entered with a single box. Said box is $210, but you can split the cost with a friend, or buy a single $145 box for yourself which contains quadruple what a Killteam has. Plays like classic Warhammer, but way more expensive. Honestly, I'd start with a little ebay where you buy the sprue of a leader or squad out of a partitioned kit for cheap to see if you like the process of building first. (Lots of sprues out of Dominion and Leviathan are like this) It's one reason I liked Warhammer Heroes.

Hey kohdok. Do you ever think you’d make videos on party video games. Like Mario party, Mario kart, CTR, and the most evil of all DOKAPON KINGDOM. Seriously Dokapon kingdom is honestly evil, and it’s kinda fun. The movement is honestly great, but the evil comes when someone has been in last place for too long or when someone has a charm potion

My experience of spearhead (3 games) was not fun. Resurrection strat just does not function for flesh eaters and double turn just blows games up. Cannon move and fire no penalty into melee feels terrible. Over all a big fail for me. AOS is disappointing in all things but models. Too bad
@Kohdok5 күн бұрын
Well, the way you deal with a cannon is engage it in melee range as fast as possible. A cannon cannot shoot if your soldiers are busy giving the crew noogies and wedgies. That was literally what I used my Chariot to do. Its sheer girth, combined with an excellent charge roll, let me place it in a way to tangle both the cannon and commander.

@bryce73445 күн бұрын
If this is someone's big gift then I'm sure they have dice. You have to really know someone is into wargaming to get someone something this massive. As mentioned, there's other smaller starter sets. And as you said, dice are cheap. It wouldn't cost much to just buy more dice if needed. Someone is going to be spending time putting the models together so there will be time to buy dice.
@Kohdok5 күн бұрын
Devil's advocate: If dice are so cheap, why not include them in the $265 set?
@bryce73445 күн бұрын
@@Kohdok Well it's GW, can't argue against them including dice in good faith because I know all their stuff is overpriced and they could probably afford it without changing the price of the product. But from their perspective maybe it was more about costs in the production line, of getting a bag and the dice and putting them in that bag and putting it in the box was too much for them to want to spend. I still think the criticism of this not including dice doesn't really matter due to what I said in my other comment.
