Jonathon, I'm really liking the consumer/user focused direction on this channel. Many Apple channels seem to chase the hot button talking points with new devices (no shade to them, that's important too!), but I really like how your videos feel somewhat niche while also posing interesting questions that feel more applicable and grounded to the average tech user. Props to you and all involved!

Funny thing is that the 8 GB of RAM on the MacBook aren't that big of a deal. Can't remember if it was Austin or another channel that went into that. I have it in base stuff. External SSD for my large stuff. 1TB Samsung SSD. Upgrading to that internally... And the 8gb of RAM is good enough for everything for me and seems to cope way better than 8gb of RAM on a Windows device would. Where 16gb gives me the same experience day to day.

Like I’m pretty sure my first 3 iPhones were 4, 8 and 16gb in order and it was absolutely not enough. iPhone SE is a really good phone with a great processor, for a very accessible price. For most people, and certainly for me, the only real downside is the small battery. Choosing this over the premium phone leaves you (a lot of) money to spend on e.g. a better laptop or desktop, where that money can really get you a lot of extra performance.

Im an android user for life, a week ago I purchased the base variant of the cheapest iPad 9, i paid $390 that’s around ₹29500 with the student discount for the 64 go variant because you pay more than a quarter of its price for government tax in India & its a fact that India is a poor country most people don’t have the purchasing power to buy apple devices. Even if you have the money you should be ready to pay the extra tax. But even though I paid more than I should for a basic tablet I think its worth it because it performs much better than any android tablet in this price range, its performance can be compared to flagship devices from other brands, the only 2 things I’m missing is a USB C connector and the limitations of iPad OS Software Either way I’m happy with my iPad 9

I bought the base iPad a few months ago to kinda test how I'd like the Apple ecosystem, coming from Android (also my first time buying a tablet) and I absolutely love it. It does basically everything I want it to at a reasonable price. If you're willing to put another ~$130 into it, the Logitech Combo Touch case is a good addition. The keyboard is better than Apple's Smart Keyboard imo and the trackpad is a nice bonus. I don't think the iPad screen's air gap is really noticeable, but I can see how it might be an issue if you plan on drawing with an apple pencil or something. I think my only complaint would be the bottom-firing speakers, but after getting the airpod pros on sale it's really not an issue if I'm just watching youtube by myself, and connecting to a bluetooth speaker to get better sound if I have other people watching with me isn't a big deal either. I would highly recommend saving A bit of money and just getting the base iPad unless you REALLY need some of the features of the higher end models. It really is a good product for $330.

I would love a series where you buy the cheapest kit for a 5 year life cycle for example and we can periodically check in how it's holding up. For example, as per this video, if we buy the cheapest gear apple sold today, total cost and value and projected longevity (8GB RAM not enough 3/4 years later on base Mini and Air, 64 Storage running out on SE And iPad) VS A likely future proof build, 16GB RAM on the Air/Mini, 128GB storage on iPad/Iphone SE, total cost and projected longevity. That would be an interesting video to watch

I bought an 8th gen 32gb iPad for college 2 years ago and I think it has been the best investment of my school life. The storage doesn’t really bother me because we used Google Drive for everything and student accounts had unlimited space, barely needed to download anything ever. I bought a Bluetooth keyboard for the device a couple of weeks ago and I think I will get at least two or even three more years of use out of it now using it for taking notes and writing.

I'm currently using the base M1 Mac Mini. This little thing has been fantastic for me. I did get burned once nearly 10 (good god...) years ago. I bought a second hand 15" MacBook Pro 2013. This is the first year that the base 15" models didn't have dedicated graphics, so I was stuck with Iris Pro. It is also the year before the entry RAM amount got bumped to 16GB. Doing video projects in college while maxing out my 8GB of RAM was an exercise in suffering

So, I deleted the KZread app and now my screen time averages 1~2 hours per week lol So my point is... Thanks, Apple for...fixing my addiction...? Who am I kidding. Just buy a power bank. My dad got the SE 2020 last year after upgrading from the 5s he's had since around 2018. He's really not the type who can judge things as well other than the fact that he uses it daily but other than the battery it is a pretty good deal if you have to be in the ecosystem. I, on the other hand, am rocking a 2015 MacBook Pro and, besides the 2.7GHz i5 and the 8 gigs of ram that I still find decent for a 7 year old machine, the 128 gigs of storage ran out almost immediately, especially since I wanted to have Windows and Arch (btw) installs on it. I shelled out another 300 bucks for a 480 gig drive, 280 of which is dedicated to my main macOS installation that I use for day-to-day tasks and I find it more than enough. So I'd say whatever you do, especially now with non-upgradeable storage, do not get anything below 256, preferably 512GB. On the other hand, since external storage is getting smaller and faster, and especially much cheaper than what Apple charges you for their built-in, it seems to me that 256GB might be the sweet spot for pretty much any user I can think of, since media, backups or code can easily be stored externally.

One thing you didn’t mentioned and was one tipping point to the iPad Air (besides storage that used to be way to to slow with 32gb) was the support for the Apple pencil 2. It is noticeable better and i would get mad with charging the first generation. but if you need a tablet, not a semi-full PC replacement, the iPad is just for you.

I semi-agree, apart from the SE and the watch. The iPhone SE i tried only lasted until lunchtime. Not only that, but it was also slowing down a lot. It also has a single camera for those who want a triple camera. (Had iPhone SE 2020 for 1.5 years and hated it all along) As for the apple watch series 3, you’re missing so much that for a couple of bucks more you can just buy the SE and the dofference is a world apart.

Sometimes entry level is great, but sometimes it makes sense to go big or go home. I’ve picked up three AppleTV HDs, even though there’s two newer models. For my TV viewing it just needs to be good enough, I’m fine with 1080p, and I have a Harmony remote that does what I need. What matters is it puts me in the Apple ecosystem. For a computer, I went with the Mac Mini, because of the lower price, and I can use my 43” displays. I did order the 16/512 model, since they can’t be upgraded later, and I plan to keep it for 10+ years.

I knew 4 people who had them in the apple bumper cases that dropped them and had the screen spider web crack. The TLDR version: I am now buying smaller hard drive capacity for my i devices and use my 2 TB iCloud for sync. The long version: Granted, on the cheapest MacBook Air, I got 500gb but I use external USB for FCPX editing. my newly ordered iPhone 13 will only be 256GB, compared to the 512GB iPhone 11, I don't feel the extra space has great resale value. Just before 2019, I was in ICU for 1 week and a half, and I gave a friend my CC and asked them to buy me the cheapest iPad so I was entertained while tied up to tubes and probed everywhere. The 32GB is a bit of a problem today and OS updates sometimes fail. I had to disable the feature to uninstall not often used apps because it seems to favor things in my fotos lib. so apps I use once pr month, where always uninstalled. But since I needed a 2TB iCloud account anyway, the strategy of choosing smaller capacity devices works well for me.
