I think the logic of not having a calculator on ipad is that the simple default calculator app designed for the small Iphone screen blownup to the size of an ipads display was probably really ugly. I bet they'll add more stuff like that when ipad gets more and more multitasking support

I’m sorry I’m hi-jack-ing your comment for this but here are features we users need. Make Siri a flat line on the bottom of the screen that waves. Add support for other smart watches. Add full screen camera support. Allow users to customize control panel more. Optimize battery life by having unnecessary daemons removed/not running constantly. Make the prism tweak native to iOS. Make the lock screen customizable to users and 3rd part apps. And custom themes. Add bubble reply like with messenger.

Then he proceeds to say how they "looked at all the common apps" people want to replace...I want to replace ALL OF THEM, and most people will agree, that maps, safari, mail, calendar, photos/gallary are all meh on ios compared to android.

Say what one may about Apple, but there are a handful of executives at the top of a company that actually reads, responds and takes into consideration the criticism or praise customers may have. Tim, Craig, Joz, Angela (when she was there at Apple) are a handful of those. I truly respect that aspect of those execs.

The answer is a real politician-like though, for 10 years we did not make a calculator app yet, because we want to make it great if we ever do it. Don't be so stubborn. Just extent the iOS ones to ipados, about a few days worth of developer time, in the meantime! I have a 1000 dollar iPad Pro but I have to pay 10-20 dollars in App Store for a decent calculator app? Sorry but no. Or put a team on it right now to make the iPad apps.

The explanation for not having a calculator app sounded like me explaining my teacher why I didn't do my homework.

I know what happened. Every dev team works the same, even Apple‘s. And the calculator and weather app are in the backlog for development. But they never made it into the "to do list" of their developers (e.g. in the sprint if they do scrum). So also Apple has some low hanging fruits that never make it into development. Every dev team has these. In short, they just forget it over and over again to schedule it for development.

Haha I get why you say that. I do understand that they want to do more than just scale up the exact same appearance/interface of a dinky little iPhone app designed for iPhone, but couldn’t they make the default appearance on iPad have all of those functional buttons that you see when you rotate your phone? With a little more space to spare? Maybe add order-of-operations-style input where there’s parentheses and multiple numbers operated on before you hit “enter” or “calculate” or whatever? They want to utilize what makes the iPad different from the iPhone if they’re gonna make an iPad calc app. I understand the motivation for why there’s not one, but as a random joe-shmoe Internet commenter, I came up with reasonable ideas for utilizing those differences so I feel like the absence of it, while understandable from a motivation perspective, doesn’t hold up because of how long it’s taking them to “come up with something that feels right” or whatever. You know?

I’m so impressed with Marques’ progress over the decade I’ve been subscribed to him. His video quality is constantly improving, his scripts are ever more concise and sleek. He has established himself as the benchmark other tech KZreadrs have been held to. MKBHD’s grainy, laptop recorded start was hardly a hint of the future that was yet to come. Hats off to you Marques.

This was awesome! I am sad there wasn’t a iOS 15 interview, I’m hoping you will have a iOS 16 version! I’m just waiting for apple to let me disable multitasking & having the ability to hide the home bar at the bottom of my screen. But this video is pretty awesome til this day!

I actually agree with Craig on the icons mostly. Like you I did not care for the changes to the UI at first but the more I’ve used it the more I’ve grown to like it. My favorite part of this interview though was where Craig got smart coming back at you with that comment about using the iPhone exclusively. That had me rolling. 🤣
