So I bought my parents a 9th gen iPad about a week before they announced the 10th gen. My first reaction was "I knew they would release a new one as soon as I bought this", but then I saw basically everything in this video and was glad I'd just gotten the 9th gen on sale as there was nothing about the 10th gen that would offer my parents a better experience for the price

A friend of mine was waiting for this one, told him to get the 9th gen. And good he did that, because when new iPad came out in my country (in eu) every older model got a nice price hike too, so in the end he saved around 80 euro on getting the 9th gen one before 10th gen came out. I like Apple a lot as a company, but with their current Euro pricing I start to wonder if my next phone will be a iPhone too after years, luckily I never imprisoned myself into their eco system too much, Apple Watch aside.

What scared me was when I was in an apple store and I saw someone (who, coincidentally, said she loved everything apple) talking to a store assistant about buying the 10th gen ipad, commenting on the colours and how nice it looked. I didn't hear a single comment about value, utility or comparisons to the other models. The average consumer doesn't understand all the intricate details that make one apple product worth it and another not, and will just keep buying whatever apple puts on the shelf, doubly so if it comes with nice colours.

I’m also starting to appreciate the old style form factor with the home button especially when I have access to the swipe to home gesture and all the other gestures anyway. This is not the latest Apple iPad, but it is faster than I thought. It has a great screen and it holds a charge pretty well kzread.infoUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U . I was concerned that it would not be powerful enough because I have several older iPads that are slow and cannot update to the latest software. But this 10th Gen has the speed and power. I do not use it for video editing, so having an M2 processor is not necessary for me. This iPad model has an A14 processor. So far so good. Glad I bought it. It helps having a larger screen compared to my Apple phone.

The 10th gen is an awkward middle child in my eyes - I have the 9th gen as it does everything I need it to and I'm not concerned about the extra wide bezels or its weaker chip, but if I wanted something better, I'd go with the Air because it lacks the compromises of the 10th gen. I think it's just a stepping stone to push a new product and make the others seem better in comparison.

The only time it would be viable, is if Apple made that pencil and offered a free upgrade, with user only needing to pay for shipping.

So I have to say, I would agree that Apple seems to be cutting corners on some thing and then forgetting on others. I ended up going with the iPad Air 2022 with the M1 Chip. Gives me a lot more time before upgrading and can get through games and other processing so quickly. I ended up getting the Logitech Combo Case for it, which gave me a great keyboard (with function keys), a trackpad (which I found i used a lot more) and protects my iPad. Plus I could just keep using the Logitech Crayon I had previously on my basic iPad previously. Which is still funny that Apple doesn’t say that that the Crayon (Which requires no connection to “Pair” it like the original Pencil did), DOES still work on these devices. I don’t get all the features of the Pencil, but it’s so much more durable and lets me make notes and even basic drawing as well. “Hello Freeform, you’re so much more useful to make notes with this Crayon!”

Sadly I waited till the M2, hoping a mini LED screen would come to the 11 inch. So not thrilled I didn’t get many new features for the price. However I do love the iPad, and bought the Apple Magic Keyboard to go with it, as well as the Pencil. The keyboard is over priced, But really adds a lot to the iPad experience. Just sucks no function keys. And I also fell in love with the pencil. Didn’t think I’d ever use it. But I do all the time. While, I have seen a lot of other You Tube reviews about Apple's new basic iPad 10th generation. As always, yours was truly special and a joy to watch. For the past several years, I have only been recommending users buy either an iPad Air or the basic iPad 9th generation. The day the iPad 10th generation was introduced, I went home and ordered on Apple's Veteran web site (saving 10 percent on the price) a maxed out version of the iPad 9th generation with 256GB of memory and the cell data option. Why? Because, it is an excellent replacement for my older basic iPad 6th generation, it still has a home button, a headphone jack, supports Apple's "center stage" function, works with my already owned 1st generation pencil, and operates perfectly with all of my lighting adapters. In addition, as for as Apple's new iPad 10th generation "Keyboard Folio" this week, I just received my Logitech Combo Touch which, I prefer and its keyboard has special function keys plus they are also "back lit" for working in low light (smile ... smile).

I'm still clinging to my 6th gen iPad entry level. The battery's charge doesn't last quite as long as it used to. I expect I'll end up with a refurbished Air but haven't quite talked myself into pulling the trigger.

It is a great choice if you come from Gen 7 or older. You don’t have to buy a new pencil so the price increase doesn’t really count for you. You get a massive boost in performance with its SoC, double the storage, bigger screen, double ram, a new design, gorgeous colours, an outstanding front facing camera, a better rear camera and more. If all these don’t sound like a good deal, I don’t know what does.

She already owned a first gen pencil so she decided to get the 10th gen because then she wouldn't need to get a new pencil and could save some money ontop of the already lower price then a brand new air would be. Her biggest mistake was going into a physical apple store imo, that way she got talked into a 10th gen instead of a referb air 4th gen + a second gen pencil for only £20 more then what she paid for a new 10th gen.

I charge my Apple Pencil gen 1 with the iPad charger and cable that came in box; as my gen 1 Apple Pencil came w/ a dongle to adapt to the lightning charging cable. Imo, so much easier and quicker to plug Pencil into wall charger to fully charge my Apple Pencil in “about” 25 mins or so; and doesn’t look “weird” sticking out of charge port of my iPad either. Want to know of charged when in wall charger dongle, not an issue as iPad keeps track of Pencil battery even when your 25 ft away in garage and Pencil is charging in my room on nightstand plugged into my wall. Have never charged gen 1 Pencil any other way; why else did the Apple Pencil Gen 1 come w/ the lightning cable charging adapter dongle in the Apple Pencil box, b/c they figured you’d charge it in the wall charger from the iPad charger and cable that iPad came with, and like said, also takes half the time to charge or even less w/ wall charger then using iPad charge port (least from my experience over the years). Sadly, have just now noticed that my gen 1 pencil has started to have battery issues. Pencil released in 11/2015 and I got Xmas of 2016 w/ my first ever iPad, awesome. But not after it’s fully charged I’m getting 60% as my “full charge “, instead of the 100% it’s supposed to be. That said it’s a 8 year old device and IS ACTUALLY GREAT for the age. If only I still had AppleCare on it, would be easy and cheap” fix. But apple didn’t offer monthly AppleCare subscriptions back than, fyi, a new service THATS WLRTH IT AND SO SO AWESOME!. Highly recommend over the norm standard 2 year AppleCare. Cheers✌🏻
