While showcasing the power rear view mirror, you forgot the trick that made this car fit barely in cargo trains. You came twist nob full 360 and lean it back then both side mirrors fold in.

I had a few w140s then bought 4 Bentleys, 1 rolls Royce , s8 , many 7 series , all kinds of Mercedes , and many other cars .. W140 is the most special to my heart.. That is why I went back last week and bought another w140 1999 Mercedes S600.

Great video, I have a W140 500SEL 92' and I love it, I don't need other car after 30 years still working like first day, greetings from Ecuador.

I've got a '94 S500. The one you drove was the "facelifted" one that came out in '95, the major difference being the taillights and reflector. I've had three W140s over the years and absolutely love them. I also had a newer W221 and though a nice car, it just didn't "feel" like the W140. I'll probably have one in the "fleet" until I'm too old to drive.

Beautiful example mate. I've got a 1992 400SEL with around 220k miles and she still drives fantastic. Love your channel and agree with what you said about looking after your cars.

There’s no v6 on the 140 series. There is just m104 Inline 6, m119 v8, m120 v12, om603 inline 6 turbo diesel( 1991-1995) and om606 turbo inline 6 diesel

From my experience on w140s, it’s one of the most reliable Mercedes s class and it is the last old school, solid, and real Mercedes s class

As a mb tech and shop owner, I preferred the w126.

I have a 1992 300sd with the 3.4L turbo diesel. The W140 is just an over engineered wonderful car. I love mine and would highly recommend one.

There are some corrections in this video and will keep on adding it on the go There are 4 Engine choices (not 3) and no V6 engine but an inline 6 gas and diesel engines. So 2 straight 6s gas & diesel (M104 and OM603 respectively) 1 V8 and 1 V12 (M114 & M120) rspvly. The gas version got two displacement options on the W140 (2.8 and 3.2) and only the 3.2 is available in the states. The V8 got two displacement options as well (4.2 & 5.0) both r available in the states as S420 & S500 rstvly. The flagship engine M120 V12 comes with 6.0 disp. And 389 hp (detuned from 406 after 1 year of prdn). On the headlight, the little wiper was mentioned as “windshiled wiper “ (windshield is the big glass on front & rear) so the wiper is simply headlight wiper… While showcasing the power rear view mirror, the trick that made this car fit barely in cargo trains was not mentioned. You can twist adjusting nob full 360 and that will let side mirrors fold in. That was a crucial step as the width of the car was a concern in shipping procedures. Moving on…

Enjoyed your video. I/we are lucky people that we daily drive a W140 S600 V12 (1996) and get what you where talking about in your video. The sheer "oneness" of every switch/door/knob/etc. makes the W140 feel like it is from one solid metal mass. BTW....V12, V8 and I6 in the W140s...pretty sure no V6 was offered.

Dual “eccentric” sweep wiper system. That sounds like a disaster hahaha! Great video though.

Those A/C controls reveal a lot of info. For example, that model will have the biodegradable wiring harness, which is very costly to replace these days. It'll have a 4 speed box, instead of the later 5. The later models won't have the little guidance poles. When did the auto rear-dimming mirror get deleted; was that '95 onwards too?

Yeah they started removing a lot of the previously standard content on the 500 models with the '95 refresh bc the cost of these were just out of control versus the much better selling LS400 and E38 7-series. The power and heated rear seats also got scraped off the standard features list in '95.

when initially released only the iinline 6 versioin of the w140 had the new 5 speed electroicc automatic trans as it had not yet been developed and rated to take on the considerable torque from the v8 and the v12 motor variants. which rmained using the long used 4 speed hydraulic automatic. the inline 6 wouls bot be considered for upgrade to bulletproffing which was an option in german market sold models ( not enough power to propel the car satiisfactoily after the added weight )

You have to check under the car. I bet it is not that mint condition 'down there'. These are cheap now for a reason... You have to rebuilt them. If you are good at that, it is a good choice because now days the quality is so low on almost any brand.
