If you are worried about your electrical panel, the wallbox charger can set the amp output down to 6amps at 240v which shouldn’t blow the fuse. Once you know how much you can pull you can set it to a comfortable level as well as set the charge time during off times when less electrical demanding equipment is running

My friend's family has one that they use for commuting and errands, it's a great little car for them. Will get them basically anywhere they need, without the fuel and maintenance costs. Saves them a ton of money. I feel like many people get tripped up in range figures without being realistic about their needs. Similar to people buying trucks or SUVs because they "might" one day need to haul something or carry seven people, but it sits empty 364 days out of the year, just costing them more with no benefit. In the case of electric, larger battery requires more resources to make, producing more emissions in the process, and increases the weight of the car while decreasing its efficiency, when 99% of the time that extra range is unused. 70 miles is more than enough for most people's daily commutes and grocery runs, I'd imagine.

Yeah I also don’t understand why people get so hung up on range. For many people most trips are around their neighbourhood, so 70 miles range would be plenty. It would be more than enough for me…. We’ve considered reducing to a one car family, but a cheap Leaf would be a better option

I can't stand these type of comments anymore. Always the same. Just because YOU never drive far or don't need more than a small car does not mean others don't. And where are the tons of money saved? How long could you drive your old car for the cost of the EV? There are many 20+ years old cars around but there won't be many 20 years old EVs. Wake up. You are not saving the world or saving money. You are just a victim of marketing and capitalism.

@@ralfulrich6254have a snickers and relax dude. I never said there aren't people who don't need the cars they have, just that the vast majority buy much more than they need. Am I telling everyone to get 70 mile range hatchbacks? No. Get the car that suits your needs. I'm just correctly stating, because I see it all the time, people going out and buying cars that are more than they'd ever need or use because of "what if" situations. Be realistic is all. If you're gonna need a truck one day a year, just drop $20 at the home depot to rent one instead of having to deal with a worse vehicle year round and being saddled with debt.

@@guys_garage 2013 LEAF new achieved 96 miles of range. Unless you had $80-120k for a Tesla Model S (171-223 mile range at the time, depending on battery size, with a rare 100-mile version available at launch), the next real choice for a pure EV was a LEAF, with the Chevy Volt as an in-between option ($40,000, 40-mile EV range, 300 mile gas+electric range). The 62-mile range Mitsubishi I-MiEV was the cheapest option but was rare, and I found that range surprisingly useful with the I-MiEV being my only car for 4 years. I added a Bolt EV to my fleet to make my longer trips faster by not having to stop and charge as much. The Bolt was the first of the 2nd generation EVs, which increased range by 200-400% over the 1st generation. There were other EVs available such as the BMW i3 (released in 2014) and Ford Focus Electric (2012), but the LEAF led the pack, even outselling Tesla at times until the 2nd-gen EVs landed. As long as the batteries didn't get cooked, the LEAF holds up quite well. I know a few people who still daily drive them.

I've had three W140s over the years and absolutely love them. I also had a newer W221 and though a nice car, it just didn't "feel" like the W140. I bought a 2001 base Deville for $375, 7 years ago. I got it from a police impound auction. I had to pay $2,900 to have the transmission rebuilt before I could drive it. It had 146k miles. I love the car. It was over heating for 6 years. I remove the engine and replaced one stripped out head bolt hole threads. I end up rebuilding the engine and replacing all the gasket to stop the oil leaks. I could not find a shop near Atlanta that would do the work. IMHO I will not trade it in coming from a 99 XLE van owner. Mine has 120k runs like a champ the engine is non vvt-I 1mz-fe built like a tank no problem, never had a check engine. I notice that the driver seat has tear no worse than mine. My wife will never trade it in even with Highlander. I’m gonna refresh it with another 3k call it a day, everything about that van compare to the new one screams value. Since 99 the major components I did was radiator, cv axle, timing belt, alternator, starter, shocks and struts. For an insane money they want for a new one to me is stupid but then that’s your call. One caution though is that the engine was involved in a class action by owners back then for oil sludge but later turned out that owners are not changing their oil regularly always do 5000 miles/6 months whichever comes first. I’m planning on driving our van across the US next year when I retire. My relatives wanted to buy it from me I always refer them to my wife and she always says no. Good luck.

I've had an 07 for a couple years, love it. I'm looking at a little newer, lower mileage version. I'm currently looking at an 09 with some kind of special edition plate on the rear trunk lid. It has a signature on it. Black with black wheels. 86k Miles. It drove pretty smooth, but didn't feel as powerful as my 07. I don't know if the all wheel drive made the difference or what but if felt like it slowed down quickly and also didn't have the same lunge out of the gate. Anybody with experience between these two models? My 07 is rear wheel drive. I'd love to hear some opinions.

I am running a 2012 Leaf which is on a second battery already and my real range is about 60-70 miles on 9 bars. For me that is adequate as I have charger near my house and at work and my commute is 50 miles round trip. As much as I would like to get "the next new thing" I am milking this vehicle as the maintenance is minimal and the car runs well. If it ain't broke - don't fix it. But if my AC went out and I had other serious mechanical or electrical issues I would look for another EV - I don't see a reason to go back to ICE vehicle.

Fast charging with chademo can degrade the battery with frequent use. But if you really want a newer EV don't forget that $25,000 and under gets a federal point of sale tax credit of $4,500. Certain states and cities have their own you can add on top of that. I've found through Autotrader a Chevrolet bolt euv new for $20,295 You can use the Federal point of sale tax credit to get $7,500 off and the same if you state and the city area has its own. So if everything aligns say in California in a city with its own possible to get the car for under $8,000 new. I'm not sure if that's 100% possible but it might work out.
