I was "Of counsel" (whateverthehell that meant) to a law firm. Everyone there was "Of counsel" except for the owner/"Partner." I noticed that after anyone departed, the Head Honcho would trash talk them and try to blame them for whatever went wrong. Suffice it to say that within a period of less than two weeks I had a lot of things happen, the most serious of which was that one evening when I stayed late my nose happened to get into a file folder whose documents indicated that the firm's malpractice liability insurance had lapsed. The next morning I was sitting in Bankruptcy Court at a creditors' meeting, and realized that the firm's client I was representing would not get more than $100 at best, no matter what. I thought to myself, "Whatthehell am I doing here?" and realized that I had to get out of there. I then realized that none of the firm's retainer agreements specifically named me (or any of the other "Of counsels", so that I would likely be able to avoid an adverse legal malpractice case against myself. And so, en route back to the office from Bankruptcy Court, I stopped at a liquor store and got some empty boxes, and immediately cleared out my desk and went home. Sure enough, I learned that the Head Honcho was blaming everything on me; I even received threatening letters from him a few months later. But I had documentation of some of the shtick he pulled which he would not want a judge or jury to see, so I accordingly ignored all of his communiques. I set up my own law practice from my home, and did well enough (and also got a teaching gig at the University). None of the threatened lawsuits against me ever materialized. P.S. Thirty years later, the Head Honcho now stands suspended from the practice of law, his reinstatement motions all having been denied. He has several outstanding defalcation judgments against him, and has relocated to Texas, where he has gotten into various troubles.

I left one job, not because I considered it totally toxic, but because I didn't think they had confidence in me and I wasn't getting the training I needed to be on a track for promotion (not that I expected a promotion after the length of time I was there but I wasn't even getting the preliminary training that would qualify me for openings that became available). When I did, the GM asked me if I was sure about my decision, but I didn't get any prolonged pressure to stay.

Yup!!! 👍 I had a work place bully and my manager REFUSED to talk to HR about it. I was penalized for being great at a job that others had to work harder for. I left with ZERO regrets. I’m better than that bullshit

Yup. Worked for a right bully many years ago. He had a massive go at me when I handed in my letter of resignation. Hahaha like, yes, shouting at me is going get me to stay. His people skills were woeful. Was so great when I moved on and got a great new boss. Don't suffer a toxic manager, move!

My manager does these things today, and I haven't even given notice! They called me last week to inform me I might be getting some new team members soon (finally). They told me all about how they were asked by their manager if I was a good manager and that their response was an expletive laden, "he's the worst!", but pointing out I'm a great individual contributor. FML...
