Yeah. I have a set of push-fit starter (Recruit 9th edition) that I've just played the practice/training missions with against myself (running the other side), haven't painted anything, but I'm fascinated by the lore. As much as people talk about the dystopic religio-fascistic Human empire, the lore has so much more going on, like the various lost Human worlds that haven't even been found yet (like the one Horus ordered destroyed but that were as or more advanced than the Imperium and not dystopic religio-fascitic, meaning there well could be more; the realm of Ultramar was before Big E found Bobby G, and even after, has allowed him a lot of semi-autonomy), and then you get into the other species/factions out there that are their own various brands of thing, but not all of them are dystopian or evil (the Leagues of Votaan and the base Eldari faction; the Orcs are less "evil" than they are genetically programed to get into fights, etc etc), and its built on deep lore that is pretty interesting between the mystery origins of the Emperor, the ancient war between the C'Tan/Necrons and the Old Ones/Eldari/Orcs (kind of an odd mix, that one), as well as the lost lore of Humanity from the Age of Technology. The lore itself is pretty interesting, even if they sometimes go a bit off the rails.

The hobby has grown, but I don't know. I feel like the main point of the hobby is creating Your Dudes. Playing with them is great, but building and painting the models is like the main thing. It's like, I wouldn't consider someone a gamer if all they did was watch Let's Plays or read books about the history of video games.

I think what he meant wasn’t that he doesn’t actually play Warhammer but rather he doesn’t use the 10th edition ruleset yet. Like DnD Warhammer has many editions with variations of different rules you have to learn for that edition so he probably plays an older ruleset edition of Warhammer that he knows and is comfortable with rather then the latest ruleset

I dont like the lack of customizable loadouts on characters. It really cheapens what i feel was a core part of the game. And i actually liked the force org restrictions. Cant say i find as much enjoyment watching the 10th ed batreps either. Id rather watch old 7th ed and i didnt start watching batreps until late 8th maybe 5 mo before 9th.

I've been "playing" 40k since 1997, I can count the number of games I've played on two hands. The last edition I played was either 5th or 6th, whichever came out around 2011. I mainly just enjoyed painting mini's and the lore. Many different aspects to the hobby that isn't playing tabletop nowadays.

The Emperor is not undead. You don't call people on life-suport undead.

I used to work with this dork named Jasper Perez. Seriously his name was Jasper! He was so annoying because he would always come in late and then start complaining about the lines falling behind even they they were his lines specifically. He never took responsibility for any of the problems that he himself started. Everybody hated this guy so what we did was got our friends to call him about two to three times a month pretending to work for Rogers. We keep telling him that he needs to return a router to our office even though he doesn't even have a router from Rogers. I changed companies I work for about three years ago but we still call this guy and harass him. He was so annoying.

I feel like Custodes in general are like the Lamenter. In Lore the Custodes are super powerful unstoppable war machines, but they are thoroughly wooped on the table top every battle.

So very many better systems than D&D. Was always glad that when I got into RPGs in 1982, that I didn't start with D&D, and got to try many other systems before I ever touched D&D. D&D (especially 5e) is a cul-de-sac.

I understand why, when I was playing DnD we got to 3.5 and it was the best version of the game and the boys have stuck to it to this day

I have not played 10th...you have to be ready to play a fair amount before you take a month to learn all the rules that change every 2 years. Alot of people skip playing additions all the time. Warhammer is for life and you can't play all the time you know.

Once you find a rule set you like you tend to stick with it. Same could be said for Dungeons and Dragons - been playing Advanced 2nd edition for decades with excursions into 3 and 3.5 from time to time.

@summer7603 I do love 3.5. But I grew up playing Advanced 2nd, it's probably for that reason I love it much.

So this is one of the best things about Warhammer as a hobby that those who aren’t into it may not understand, and why they might see this so called “admission” as a negative. Playing the game is such a small % of how people engage with it. Collect, build, paint, army build, theory craft, read and discuss the lore, be part of a community, watch game streams, hobby streams, etc., and then there’s actually playing the game. I spend at least 20x the amount of time thinking about the game than I do actually playing it. So not getting a game in yet for a busy dude like Henry is totally fine. Cheers

I have been into 40k almost 20 years now and never played a live game, it's been about the lore, the books (most of what you can find in Spanish) and the videogames for me.

To be fair that’s super authentic to the real life 40k people I know.

Yeah, what some people don’t realize is that life gets in the way of the hobby at times. I have four armies, over 3000 points each, and haven’t played 10th because I had my first kid near its release. My twin brother’s done 6 tournaments in 10th on the other hand, but he has the time. On top of that, people forget that 10th edition had a complete overhaul on the rules and mechanics, and when my brother and I demo’d the rules, it was like learning the game over again.

Hey he might when he takes a look at their tenth edition codex rules. Custodes are actually playable in that game.

I have never touched a Warhammer game but if Cavill is in, I'm in, cause I know he's a huge fan and he'll use his star status to make it true to the source material.

I didnt even know people played with the figurines, I just bought a bunch and painted them back in the day.

Wait till he finds out they retcon the lore to make it that custodes are not only male soldiers anymore but they thems

@@stuffandnonsense8528 2nd is hard to understand sometimes. Much referring to the rules is needed. But, it's way more involved and interesting. You need to be on point with your battle tactics and know your army really well. They simplified it after 2nd edition to make it easier for kids to play. Larger market, more sales, more money. I have played for over 25 years. Tried the other editions, never liked any of them. Always went back to 2nd. Makes it hard to find a game, and participating in comps and tournaments these days is almost impossible....not many old school players anymore.

@@72mardy my main game is Warhammer (fantasy) so 40k always seemed simpler to me. Although I haven't played any fantasy since 6th ed. I plan on playing Old World as soon as I can though. Mordheim and Necromunda are also fantastic. I have always wanted to play Warmaster but never had an opponent.

When told about the changes in the Custodes codex Cavill reportedly said "Did I say Custodes? I meant Grey Knights"

@@UKDarkJedi Yeah I agree. Grey Knights and Orks are two of the factions that GW really got the rules right for. They have good game mechanics and rules that are fluffy at the same time.

Nah, he's the kind of guy to 100% make time for his hobbies. He's probably just using that time to play the edition he knows and enjoys rather than learning a new version he might not like.

The truth is, he's still painting his army and will be for another 4 months at least

I hope he in any series take on a character that can be interwoven in broader stories. I sure he'd make a great Custodes, but they boys in shining armour are quite rare . An inquisitor or Rouge Trader would probably be more likely to travel across several worlds and encounter more Xenos

I mean, the Custodes were handcrafted to be perfect in pretty much every aspect, so it makes sense that honorary Proconsul Cavilius would favour them.

First they fire him as Superman, then they ruin his dream role as Geralt of Rivia so bad he quit, Now they've turned his favorite Warhammer faction into the "Boy"scouts of America.

This happened to me with 9th. I started playing at the beginning of 8th edition and then got real busy. By the time I had the free time for 40k 9th edition only had like 2 months left in its lifespan. As an Admech player I can say that 10th made it a lot easier for me but I wish my ruststalkers (prob my favorite models) weren't made so completely useless.

In honesty Horus Hersey is what got me into 40k and then I read the lore and played the games

At least he was honest in his answer.

I swear all you have to do become his best friend is talk about warhammer with him.

Thing is, does he even "roleplay a jock" outside of being handsome and not mouthbreathing over nerdy topics(unless directly asked about his hobbies)? Seems like he's pretty open about his hobbies, and his characters tend to be pretty smart or at least not stereotypical meatheads.

When you pick the cheapest( cause its two modles to an army if the points are right) but probably the most badass one
