    I mixed up some 3% ammonium chloride solution. It is AMAZING at cleaning up old screw on filters that have collected some sort of crystallized growth on them. I have used it on several filters that were stored away many years ago. It dissolved the growth immediately and the glass was like new. The 3% solution is readily absorbed by Q-tips, but not by the cotton cleaning clothes I use (Pec Pad)

    Isn't dismantling lenses and putting them back together again in even better condition a really theraputic thing to do? I bought an old Voigtlander Vito C a few years ago, which had fingus inside the lens, as well as dust and dirt inside, but after taking it apart and cleaning her up, and putting her together again it worked really well, and the fungus is still gone =) I have this lens coming from the Ukraine from ebay, apparently it has fungus inside, and i only paid a few pounds for it, so i am really looking forward to taking it apart and refurbishing it as new! Great video, very helpful, specially about fungul removal!

    +Alexandra Starr (the girl within) Hello Alexandra! Yes, it is recommended thing to do, because fungus inside harms image rendition (mostly loss of contrast). Another thing-you should be qualified enought and know how to proceed with conrete type of lens. Regards, Retro Foto House

    How does fungus transfer from one lens to another? Is it airborne or upon proximity/contact?

  • @Albanez39

    @Albanez39

    4 жыл бұрын

    Spores are airborne, but they don't have a long life unless they find an isolated environment with some moisture they can use to grow and feed from. Keep your lenses in a dry place and you won't have issues. Use Silica gel packets in your camera bag and your lens cabinet (it will absorb the moisture in the air).

    Hello and thank you for this video, I am going to try to do the same thing! Is it possible to disassemble the front block lenses , as that of the back, to clean internal dusts? I too shall be interested in other video, because my focus ring has a hard point... what is the used liquid product? Thank you and congratulation for this video.

  • @RetroFotoHouse

    +Tofolo 33 Hello! Yes you can do that with front block also, but first you need to remove a front ring with writings on it. There is 2 holes, use compasses with needles to remove it. Than you will find rings with 2 pair of grooves. Use external grooves to unscrew complete lens block, internal one-ti remove only front glass. Unscrew it with a calipers.

    Sorry, this is not 'ammonium cloride" - this is ammonia 3% solution from apotecary? - does is smell of ammonia strongly? For stronger action pros use 3% ammonia+3% hydrogen peroxide (also from apotecary) as 1:1, placing lens into this for several min. Some persistent fungus need up to 20 min being soaked in this.
