Heavenly Chocolate Cookies From 1812 | Oil Free | Historical ASMR Cooking
Exploring the chocolate craze of the 18th and 19th century is a neverending job. One woman is willing to take on the task, in exchange for free samples. Let's bake these chocolate cookies as they were from a cookbook published in 1812! Are they any good?

Please venture over to our 2nd channel Frontier Patriot where we eat, chat and review these real historic recipes ^_^ including this one. It was good and I love that it's oil free! A translated recipe is below. At the end of the video you will find an image of the original recipe from the 1812 edition of "The Professed Cook." This book was first published in the 1770s! Chocolate Biscuits, 1812 0.9 cups of cocoa powder (perferably American Heritage brand. If not using a historical brand of cocoa please add a dash of cinnamin and nutmeg to your cocoa) 1.9 cups of powdered sugar 0.9 cups of flour 4 egg yolks 8 egg whites Directions: combine your cocoa powder, sugar and flour into a bowl and stir well till combined. Seperatly crack your eggs, seperating the yolks from the whites. Whisk up your egg whites until they are dense, white and frothy. This will be your levening agent. Pour the egg yolks into the dried mixture followed by your egg whites. Be careful to slowly fold in and mix the egg whites so that you don't crush their bubbles. Once mixed up bake into any shape that you desire on baking paper for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. Be careful to not overcook.

I'm not sure birthday cakes were a thing that long ago. Max Miller (Tasting History) did a video about birthday cakes once, and if I remember correctly (it's been a while), he found out birthday celebrations with cake are a relatively recent phenomenon.

@@beth12svist yeah, I might be wrong but I think it was 1920s bday cake he made? I love to see a crossover with them since Justine cooks on a freaking open flame/coals which is so so hard vs consyant modern temps in appliances and his deep dive into history. I watch him to talk and this to relax and see it mostly likely as is. Food brings us together no matter what the year imo. And Justine showing washing and cleaning back then...makes you appreciate it more. Edit: added Justine's name, so sorry!
Those cookies looked so good! It was nice of you to share one Alfred🍪 I wonder if you saved any for Ron? 😂

You are truly so gifted with open fire girl! Please do a video on how you get your temperatures so perfect 🙏🥰👍
I absolutely ADORE the scene of her carrying the cat home so cute! 😍
I really love watching your cooking videos, they are so therapeutic. I watch a lot of cooking channels on KZread and some of the people are very loud and they throw their spoons, bowls etc. Your videos are so calming and you put things down so gently and quietly. I think you are beautiful, kind and a gentle soul.💖
Love the old ways of doing things, and the old recipes .😊
Coffee and homemade chocolate cookies. What more could you ask for.🍪🍪
Yummy! I made chocolate cookies last Sunday, my husband ate all of them already!
Nice video Justine. Keep up the good work. Happy Easter to you and Ron.
Happy Easter to you Justine and Ron! Gods blessing are wished fir you!✝️🙏🏻🌷🌸🌹💐🙏🏻👍🏻❤️
Oh, yum! Those simple cookies look divine. I will go on over to the Chew & Chat now.
You are brave, Justine, to make chocolate cookies wearing light pink. 😊

Incredible video ! Just wonderful to watch !
OH YES!!!! I'm definitely going to make a batch of these babies!!! YUMMMMMMM!!!
I actually have this recipe!!! I had no idea it was 200 years old. And yes they taste exactly like individual little chocolate cakes. 😊
Listening to the bird in the background while we’re expecting a snowstorm makes me long for spring.
Justine! I'm wishing you, Ron, and MishMish a happy early Easter 💐 ❤

Thank y’all for the old fashioned cooking videos. Someone really needs a chocolate cookie to go to that extent. 😊
I just made these & 😮 🎉❤!!! I’m blown away by how few ingredients there are, how chocolatey they taste, that my kids love them (they’re munching on these right now!), and this recipe is 200+ yrs old. WOW. This will be my other once-a-month go-to. 😂. Thank you for sharing!
Such a simple recipe but looks so delectable!

They look like a brownie consistency but also cakey ! Yummy!!
Happy Easter! I love the look on your face when you ate the cookie and said these are all mine. I love mish mish too 🐇🐰🐈🐣
I love the bunny with the voice over. It adds more charm to the video, which it already had in excess. ✨
Love your content, informative yet therapeutic!
I give a thumbs up as soon as the video starts. These really look yummy. Kitties and chickens always make me happy!
Thank you Justine for another great video as always
I just love Albert's positive wishes at the end!🐰
This brought back so many memories. My momma used to make chocolate cake cookies when I was little. They always warmed my heart and gummy! Thank you so much for sharing. I love your videos.
That looks absolutely divine
Love how you snuck off at the end, to hoard all the cookies for yourself. 😊
Those cookies look wonderful, they'd go great with a good cup of coffee!
looks so yummy!! Must try! Hope you and Ron are safely away from the tornado activity. Prayers 🙏🙏 for all who have been affected.
Those look really good! Love seeing old recipes and your cabin, sometimes I wish I could live in that time period. It was probably harder, but it seems simpler and worth it. Your cat is also very adorable.

Those look amazing! I want to know if you were carrying MishMish through the woods because he is such a sweet baby, or if it was because he was out on wild adventures & had to be brought back near the house to make sure he behaves? 😊🐱😊
Yummers. It looks like a pretty day for baking. Cheers
Those cookies look like they would melt in your mouth🤗😋
Thank you for another wonderful recipe and for your lovely spring wishes! Blessings to all of you -- yesterday was Beltane (May Day), so my Happy & Abundant Beltane Blessings to you are but a wee bit belated! :)
Those look delicious!!! So simple too...I have a question though about baking and cooking in wood fire ovens in these days: how do you know what temperature the oven is without a thermometer? Thanks for the lovely video!
Love your mischievous grin at the end Justine. You are too funny ❤
"...a spoon of what length and bigness you please." "Bigness" -- I adopted "goodly" from an old cookbook, and now "bigness" is something I've just GOTTA start using in everyday conversation!
Those cookies looked really yummie!❤
