Heat Acclimation Made Simple - An Ultrarunner's guide to racing in the heat

Спорт

Stop running in sauna suits.
Stop doing tempo runs in the middle of the day.
Stop training inefficiently.
In this video I go over Jason Koop's method protocols for getting heat acclimated and conquering your summer races. Though the methods here are taken from Koop's book "Training essentials for Ultrarunning", they apply to any sport where endurance and performing in the heat are vital for success.

Such great insights, I feel more confident about my race day now (searching for dry saunas now)

Instead of getting a dry sauna, I wonder if sitting in a hot car would work? I mean, now I'm looking into building a sauna, but maybe in a time crunch it's a "use what you got" kinda thing.

Love this, brother! I’ve been enjoying your other videos as well. You actually talked me into upgrading from the Torin 4.5 plush to the 5, thanks to your Torin 6 vid. That last point about price, and the wife, hit home, especially in lieu of the reviews on the Altra site. Great work, man, and I look forward to more videos from you!

Glad I could help make a decision! I was into cycling before running, and my wife was glad I switched because it would be cheaper. Little did she know how fast I can go through shoes....

Very informative, thanks. Hydrating can be a real challenge with a high sweat rate. I lost 2.1kg on a hot 70 minute run where I had no hydration. I obviously put it back on within 3 hours after getting home and hydrating.

You're welcome! Even when I'm hydrating properly I can still lose a significant amount of weight in just a few hours. It makes it really tough to properly measure how much sodium and electrolytes I need over the course of a race.

Great video and something I suffer from with anything greater than 6 hrs. Can you provide link to steam generator you got and your overall thoughts of it now that you've used it for awhile? I also want to make sure that you meant you only mainly use this method now, but before you built this you were using other methods (warm bath, etc). I did that same TRIDENT race last year but did the endurance option and heat got to me after awhile and first time I DNF'd. Thanks in advance!

Also, I was using warm baths before I got this. I would do a bath plus a sauna suit, sometimes putting a tarp over the bathtub to keep some heat in. I really like the steam generator I got. It doesn't have many features aside from "turn on, get steam", but that also means less parts that could break!
