Heartaches - QRS 8213
I like to post older original copies of rolls. But this is a great song, and since I already posted my other Al Bowlly hits, I might as well include this one - even tho it's a newer copy. It's another one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy Heartaches - most people don't!

As much as I love Al Bowlleys version, with the “Hearrrrtacheeess, heaaaarrrtachheees..” I really like these ones that go more like “Heart. Aches. .. Heart. Aches.”

thing is, it's more true to the thing with heartaches they persist they just don't come and go quickly really

I always sing/hum it with the first note at full length, then the second as staccato, which blends the two in a way that gets the best of both.
Everyone is commenting with the Caretaker reference…I just think it is a really great roll. I like your tempo. Daringly fast but it swings hard!

Interesting how this song is a burning memory truly for the elderly of today and the days before yet will continue to be so for our generation too in the future
Brilliant choice in tempo! Now I want to do an orchestral arrangement at this particular speed...

Do it! We'd love to hear it! I've thought of doing something similar with some of the Lee Sims rolls but I'm too lazy lol
I love the stride/ragtime style this is played in! I find it to be quite an interesting take on this song, and inspires me to try something similar.
I originally listened to the Caretaker's stuff roughly a few years ago. Lead me down this rabbit hole. I lovvvve this version of Al Bowlly's Heartaches. Has a upbeat style to it, even though its supposed to tell a story of heart break.

Listening to The Caretaker can lead to two paths. Becoming obsessed with psychology and memory, or becoming obsessed with 20’s ballroom music. I chose to simultaneously go down both, and now I listen to a hundred song playlist consisting entirely of variations of Heartaches and Lullaby of the Leaves while also doing research on the scientific explanations of brain functions.
woah, this is the closest I've found to the player piano I have! I hope to restore it one day

Lullaby of the leaves is so good! I just wish it was preserved better. The recording on apple music is literally just call “Lullaby Of The.”
Conforme la canción avanzaba, el pianista comenzaba a morir y olvidar poco a poco lo que era, lo que le gustaba y lo que quería. Y tan pronto como la última nota sonó, el último recuerdo que tenía con su amada se desvaneció para siempre.
Beautiful, awesome work of engineering

1:52 didn't expect an ending like a Steven Universe song (there's a complicated term for this sort of Coda that refers to this jazz like chording style of ending///jazz only in refrence to the style of harmony, taken inspiration from the blues chord system, not jazz rhythm wise)

The short answer is vacuum. Inside the player action, there's a series of leather pouches and valves that work together with the holes on the roll. It's very ingenious and complex but also pretty simple once you understand the principle of how it works. Thanks for asking!
